I worked for this company for 1.5 years. 

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
On my initial pitch, I was told that I would never want to my return to my former career. I was going to make the most $ I had ever made in my life and the residuals I would receive would be more than I ever made per month and per year. On my first open enrollment period I did bring home a check for around $4K for the week. I felt pretty good and began to believe it would be possible.

THINGS BEGAN TO CHANGE

 However, over the next year things began to change and not for the better! Each day my satellite did training for an hour. Rather than focusing on the sales process, we began to turn our attention towards mindset training. This training then moved into tapping into outer realms (positive/negative vibrations) that would bring us wealth, health, and success etc. When I would not close a presentation it was said, "It is because you were focused on the negative and this negative energy pushed that person away!" As an agent I had to pay a $99.00/month fee to use the CRM provided by the company. I was also encouraged to spend $ to buys leads from Nextgen. The company provided leads were always bad and so were the ones from Nextgen. Again, I was told it is because I was thinking negative. In reality our CRM had been marked as spam for over a month! I also began to realize there were only a few agents that were making consistent sales. When I asked what they were doing differently I was told they are putting in more work (60 hours+) a week. If you are doing this to provide for your family, you will be told to, "put your family on the back burner" so you can be successful. This isn't something I am willing to do. 

PAY
Before you start to work for USHA, you need to make certain you understand how you get paid.Starting out, after you sell any policies you will split this with your FSL. When you are ready to present a policy to your first customer, you will receive an 8 month advance the rest goes into a reserve account for those that cancel their policies later. This is nice especially if you need money upfront. If you can afford it however, I would suggest taking your payments as earned. This way you will get a check each month when the customer pays his/her premium. This also keeps your balanced owed to the company lower for when you decide to leave. 

ADVICE

If possible, I would look for work someplace other than USHA. You will be putting in a lot of hours and will be spending more $ to work for this company than what you will be getting paid. If you are a person with a family do not work for this company. Those that are making the money are those that got into this business when it started many years ago. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I changed careers 7 months ago in May of 2016 to come work as a sales agent with USHA . I've been in sales my whole life so had some realistic expectations in the beginning of what my pay would be and starting from the bottom in a new industry. I never sold health insurance before but took the leap and sold my company that I was part owner of , making 150k+ per year for the last 7 years of my life to start all over selling health insurance and I know it was a crazy thing to do to give up a 6 figure income in the blink of an eye but I just saw the opportunity at USHA is like nothing else out there. I started out like a lot of agents and had a hard time adjusting in the first 7 weeks I only made about 2 pay checks for around $500 each. So obviously I was beginning to be quite nervous, but than I really sat back and audited my work ethic and my training I was receiving from the company on the daily calls (every day at 12 noon there is a region training call ) On these calls they alway speak about setting up your day , making the calls for prospecting and keeping it simple and basically don't try and reinvent the wheel. After really digging deep and realizing it was my self who wasn't making enough dials and was trying to do to much on the phone and not just keep things simple the way we were trained , I had a break through. I started really working harder and being more coachable and just mimicking the leaders in my region. To sum it up by just really listening to the training I received through management and auditing my own work ethic I ended up having an incredible 2016 and finishing top 15 in the company in terms of sales . One of the main reasons I chose to change careers and get contracted with USHA was my buddies that were all already working for the company had such a passion for what they were doing and truly loved their job. After being at the company for 7 months I can truly see why, set aside the amazing commission structure and opportunity to make incredible money, the mission statement of H.O.P.E is shown to me every day by every person I work with all the way up to management and the leaders . Every person at this company truly cares about helping people and when you get the thank you calls and texts and hear from clients just say how grateful they are that we helped them find affordable health coverage and saved their families so much money every month it really makes the job worthwhile. This is the greatest company in the country and there is no other way to put it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
First the Culture, it's like having a Second Family. They've believe in me from Day 1 and supported me everyday since I've started and seen the potential in me before I did. Compensation is also pretty great, I've made more money with this company than I thought was possible for my age. Growth potential is also pretty awesome, I've been in leadership since October of 2025 and I thought it would at least take me 5 years to get into leadership. So definitely plan on staying with this company for the rest of my working years and I'd recommend anyone looking for a career change or a better sales company USHA is it!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Honestly there isn't any stressful part of the job. There are obstacles which can be finding a plan that covers a clients complex needs because some clients have more difficult needs than others but that's the extent of stress. The Leaders in the office teach you everything you need to know and more, the support is more than enough, and you don't need any experience to be good at the job. You just have to have a heart and morals.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is extremely supportive and uplifting. My Leaders believe in me before I fully believe in myself and they've helped me financially, mature in life, become a more patient person, more understanding, and the list continues.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I get in the office and do Client outreach to inbound leads or Client Presentations for roughly an hour before our Morning Meeting, after the morning meeting more client outreach to inbound leads until lunch while also marketing on Social Media and answering inbound emails and text messages. After lunch I normally meet with a potential referral partner and completed any miscellaneous work tasks I came up with the day before or that morning. Then around 3 or 4PM I do more Client outreach to inbound leads and social media or Client Presentations until I leave.

This whole organization is a scam. They target hard working individuals who are desperate on the job market and then entice them with lies of prosperity. Where do I begin... once you begin you actually have to invest close to $500 of your own money before they inform you that you are building you own business with them... what is the point of building your own business for another company? I worked 12+ hour days for 16 days straight, I received little to no training from my “leaders”. There are no actual free leads, you pay a monthly subscription to a system called VanillaSoft that costs nearly $100 a month. The “free” leads ($100 a month) are 99.9% cold leads. All individuals have been bombarded with calls from around the country for days, weeks, and sometimes months. If you want to actually make sales they suggest using your family and friends which I was vehemently against because the premiums are ridiculously high for such poor coverage. You will be constantly encouraged to deceive others on the phone, as well as through email and text. The branch I was briefly at told me that I was never allowed to tell a possibly client that I am an insurance agent (Though that is the truth) instead I was told to say that lie and say that I am a “Licensed Health Advisor”. I was instructed to then continue on this path of deceit by saying that I have access to all the plans in the state when in fact I only had access to the 2 or 3 we offered. The whole training program is how to trick or scare someone into buying insurance from you. Furthermore, in order to get paid even remotely close to what they advertise, you first need to sell an unreal amount of policies in a week, and secondly advance your pay. They end up up tricking you into owing them tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. My “leaders” were about $500k+ in debt to the company combined. So if you want to go work for a company that treats you poorly, wastes your time, tries to turn you into a liar, and actually makes you owe them money, then USHA is the place for you!

What is the best part of working at the company?
I have never found a place to work with such a positive balance of challenge and support. Genuinely feel like every day I work with people who are willing to help me grow and be successful. There is uncapped earning potential here, not to mention fabulous residual income. It does take some time to get there for many people, but in my opinion it's worth the hard work. I also would say that I have so much flexibility in my schedule, I work a lot to build business but I get to choose when I work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
This is not a job for someone that cannot commit to setting aside time to work without being micromanaged. Also not for someone who is unwilling to do repetitive tasks daily. 100% commission is tough, but you get out of it what you put in and it takes dedication to do well here. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You are your own boss, but you're never without help. Every single person in my office is willing to help me answer questions and show me what they are doing that is working for them. I have fun and feel supported!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work hybrid remote so 3 days out of the week I am at my office by 9, we have a kickoff meeting to make announcements and discuss things to work on. I am making calls, meeting with clients and working on other things throughout the day. My day ends when I am done with the activities I scheduled for the day. We often do team lunches to celebrate wins. There are training meetings a few times a week that you can join so we can work on improving various things we do. When I work from home I do everything mostly the same just without the commute. I work 6 to 7 days a week for the best chance of building clients.

There are a lot of unrealistic expectations that are not communicated in the recruitment process. 

They expect you to a work 8a-12p take a 4 hr break then work 4p-8p. Plus work weekends

They require you to pay $92.50 to get contracted with the company and pay $95.00 a month for 3rd party dialing software and pay $243 a year for screen share software 

They don't mention any of these costs or fees in the company presentation or opportunity. Just all the POTENTIAL benefits you MAY receive if you are successful

You will be calling leads as old as 10 years additionally, you will be calling the same leads that are shared within the entire agent pool. It will be lick of t he draw of you get the customer at the right time to buy.y6

You will be expeced to come to the office and remain there to make these calls continually on a daily basis regardless if you are closing the sales.by calling mostly unqualified prospects

You will quickly discover that the company leads you call are people that may have made an inquiry over 5 years ago about health insurance.  

You will quickly discover that many of the leads you call NEVER asked for an inquiry into purchasing healthcare insurance. And demand to know why you got their number and continuously call them

If luck is on your side or you can work 60-80 hrs a week and have at least $1,200 to risk or loose , you MIGHT get a sale or two and then have to split the commission with another agent whobis licensed inthe state you wrote the policy if you have not PAID more money to be licensed in those states.

Save yourself the headache and contract with a reputable company. Don't believe the hype they make it out to be

You won't receive proper training, or any at all. I wanted to succeed at my job because I was enthusiastic and loved my position, so I asked for more resources to perform better. But then I found out the trainer for my position didn't want to train me because I wasn't on her "team," therefore they sent one of the secretaries from up front to inform me not to bother my sales leaders "because they could be in meetings," which I then looked over at the trainer who was laughing and messing around at work. Please don't work for this company. If you want to take your chances, make sure they absolutely are 100% transparent with you. I was hired to assist the boss' daughter, unbeknownst to me until it was too late. You can imagine how that played out. 

They let me go after 3 weeks, which isn't nearly enough time to properly evaluate an employee's performance. They claimed it was because it was a trial position and that I just wasn't "grasping it," and yet I was making more appointments and phone calls than the other employee who had the same position, who my supervisor (the boss' daughter) loved to badmouth about how terrible she was so I can only imagine what else was said. 

Don't work there. The pay is horrible, they are flaky and dishonest, and the amount of drama is sickening. Some people will straight up refuse to make eye contact with you or acknowledge you because they think they're better than you. The owner of this branch is the worst regarding that, you're nothing to him unless you're a top performer making him money. He doesn't care about his employees even to make small talk. 

Don't waste your time. 

I hesitate to write anything negative since that is not my style, but I feel duty bound to let others know what is going on here.  First the positive;
 This is a great place to learn the hustle of hardcore prospecting. Now, for the truth; They do not want you to know that you will need to be able to financially support yourself for the first 2-3 months while you get licensed, learn the products, and begin to build your book of business.  Most people will need some kind of financial support system outside of what USHA has to offer if they want to stick with it and build their book.  Some people will not need outside financial support. If the stars line up for you and you talk to all of the right people who are healthy and wealthy then maybe, just maybe, you will be able to get through the beginning stages based on your own sales.  However, there are very strict underwriting requirements for clients to be approved.  Most people will not qualify medically, nor will they qualify financially.  The target market for USHA is a very healthy person that lives at least 400% above the poverty level.  They also teach their Health Advisors to say that they are "independent agents".  This is a black and white ethics violation since they are all "captive" agents. Another little known fact among their Health Advisors is that the Errors & Omissions coverage that USHA provides does NOT cover Do Not Call violations.  If a Health Advisor violates the DNC, then they will apparently be on their own to defend against the fines incurred.  Even though I was on-track to meet the 13 week sales goal the commission earned was well below the poverty level.

The company expects you to make a minimum of 300 phone calls/day so make sure you are cool with doing that.  They will tell you though that that is the minimum, if you want to make $40K/year, you are probably making 400-600/day.  Make calls even when you are on vacation.  Just never stop calling.  

You can certainly make a ton of money, and we hear from those top earners on a weekly basis.  However, as of today, 80% of the sales people aren't on pace to earn $60K/year let alone what is advertised.  

If you can literally handle:  staying on the phone without even a lunch break for 10 hours with that phone dialing continuously, leaving hundreds of voicemails, hearing from people that are upset because you are the 15th person to call them that day, then you can likely be part of that top 20 or even 10 percent.  

If you do make it to that top 10 percent, you can make tons of money however, be prepared to spend money on yourself as all of the top earners got there by buying their own leads to supplement the company provided leads that everybody is calling.  This may be difficult if you don't have money to spend right away or need every penny you earn.  

Lastly, health insurance is highly seasonal.  From Nov-end of January, there is a lot of business to be had.  Outside of that, it feels like you are working for little pay.  You have to be highly motivated to keep at it when you haven't made a sale for a few days.

In summary, it can be a great job but since you can make gobs of money but really only the top 10% do, the other 90% struggle.  Not very good odds in my opinion.
