This company is very sales driven. They tell you that they don't push products, but that's mostly what I have had to do since I've worked there. You are given goals that are not achievable (easier said than done when you are not the one doing it!). You are required to make phone calls to customers to push products, as if doing it face to face isn't already enough. You have goals that require you to get a certain amount of loans, credit cards, referrals and accounts per month. If one branch is doing poorly, then every branch is doing poorly. Management sucks. They can get away with yelling at employees and treating them horribly. All they have to do is cry to keep their job. Everyone micro manages each other. They are always short staffed so you never get to take a proper break since there is usually just two people and you have to work a lot of Saturdays. Managers make up their own policies and procedures instead of doing it the way UMB has set in place which causes a lot of issues. They nit pick everything you do to find something wrong with what you did. There's alot of negative, stressful energy within this company. You have to wear about 25 different hats and the pay is weak for all that you have to do. You can forget about the yearly raises that you're suppose to get. They're worried about numbers, so nothing you do is ever going to be good enough in their eyes, "You did great! ...but you could've done better." It's impossible to move up in this company. Once you are hired in at your position, you are stuck in that position for the rest of your time with this company. There's a lot of lazy employees that leave one person to answer the phones or do transactions while they play on their phones or disappear for 30 mins - 1 hour to take personal calls. A lot of responsibility is usually put on just one person instead of everybody having equal responsibility. Please, don't fall for it. Save yourself the headache and apply somewhere else.

Responsibilities include:
Workforce Administration, eComp+, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, BrassRing and WorkBench certified.   
•	Process Improvement: supports continuous improvement through both technical innovations and process improvements to automate complex tasks and minimize manual work.
•	HR system implementations, upgrades and enhancements: Assists with system setup, changes and configuration with software vendors, IT, and Payroll, if applicable. Manages and troubleshoots implementation issues. 
•	Reporting: Creates and delivers high quality, easy to use reports, as needed. Maintains HR dashboard information that summarizes, analyzes and reports key business metrics, identifying trends and provide recommendations for optimization in hiring, engagement, succession planning and internal mobility 
•	Analytics: Translates business needs into appropriate analytical problems, perform high-quality analysis and turn outputs into sound, actionable business insights utilized for decision making.  Connects data from different sources to uncover correlations and data links that support actionable solutions.
•	Data Maintenance, Audits & Production Support: Uses understanding of system setup, interdependencies, and data flows to track data, system, and interface issues; tests and implements resolutions. Maintains system tables and create reports from multiple data sources. Provides support to HR team members with HR systems including problem resolution, reporting and procedure support. 
•	Documentation: Creates and maintains documents for process flow, procedures and training purposes. Uses flow charts, screen shots and step-by-step instructions to document HR processes.

A typical day involved handling customer inquiries, processing transactions, and managing disputes. I learned how to navigate complex issues, adapt to new systems, and improve time management skills. In the beginning, management was supportive, and the workplace culture was collaborative. However, as new systems were introduced, the work became more challenging, and I felt there wasn’t enough support to manage the increased workload. The hardest part of the job was adapting to constant changes without adequate training or communication. While the work became stressful at times, I enjoyed helping customers and the sense of accomplishment when resolving issues. Overall, the company offered good benefits and pay, but management could have done more to advocate for employees during times of change and ensure smooth transitions.

I worked there for almost a year and a half and it was by far the most stressful job I've ever had. The fact that there's so many people leaving because there isn't advancement unless you are friends with the boss or don't mind kissing many many axxx. I couldn't even get days off because i wasnt friends with the person in charge of scheduling. Also that person is in charge of many different other things. Your job title means nothing because you have to do the jobs the others wouldn't do and if they didn't have anyone else to do it. Staffing was horrible I often could not get lunches because there was literally me at the teller line all day. I felt like everyone in the bank used me up until I couldn't handle it anymore and became exhausted. Not to mention management! I reported a teller supervisor  (the only teller in the branch) had yelled at me and said disrespectfull things in a bank full of customers. Even the customers looked at me concerned. She was panicking  (moods swings were always present at this bank) because there were three people in line and I was the backup teller (along with many many other roles)but I was already with a customer. Long story short I was the one written up for disrespecting her when I didn't say a word back. There's so much more but if you work here don't expect to be treated like a respected adult.

Dubuque Bank & Trust is the headquarters of all Heartland Financial banks so it is a great place for developing key skills, such as communication, organization, customer service, and training. In operations we process a diverse array of requests, such as online banking requests, cash deposits and withdrawals, enrolling new accounts on the system, submitting and responding to transfer of accounts, and maintaining assets just to name a few. My knowledge about banking, investing, accounting, and trust administration has grown significantly and I have acquired a strong sense of confidentiality and ethical behavior. Also, I can work efficiently, productively, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Some of my daily tasks are autonomous, but most are a collaborative effort so I often work alongside co-workers. I have found that working in teams or with a partner is beneficial to my learning, because all of my co-workers are helpful and appreciate my help. I am happy to work for the managers I have, because they often recognize my work and I hear a lot of compliments from them. The hardest part of my job has been the system conversion over the past year, but it has also been an opportunity to fill new roles and expand my knowledge and skills. The best part of my job is when a customer expresses their appreciation for helping them with something.

The bank used to be great before UMB took over. After the transition to UMB we lost all of our customers, they terminated a position leaving a pregnant woman jobless with no health insurance, & the pay was terrible for everything that I had to do in this position. I might as well have been the manager because the assistant manager they hired didn’t know absolutely anything. All of the customers preferred for me to help them instead of her because she didn’t know anything. I opened up ALL new accounts (business & personal) even though everyone at the Branch was trained to open accounts, I was the only person that could open them without messing up on top of doing normal teller transactions & safe deposit box assistance as well. I pretty much did everyone’s job for terrible pay & then on top on everything they wanted us to start making mortgage loan, auto loan, & new bank account referrals but they ran off all of the customers so that mission was pretty much impossible. Out of an 8-9 hour shift I’d see a total of 4 people come into the bank & that was on a “busy” day. The Branch was so slow & they lost so much business that they closed two out of the five branches that they acquired which one of the two branches was mine. I did not enjoy working for this company & definitely would NOT recommend it to anyone.

Typical day of work is a waste of your time.  It is just "make work" that has no real purpose, function, or expected result.  It is literally middle management doing "job justification" tasks. The Director of Retail has no clue what he is doing and that leads to the Regional Managers looking like they don't know what is going on. Though to be honest, most of them really don't know what is happening around them.  All you will do is mundane tasks meant to be "points of accountability" so the Middle Management can  pass the buck of failure to the employees. 
Luckily you will learn a lot about what not to do at your next job. You will also have a clear vision of how not to be a manager/leader.  If you just sit back and watch the RDMs from Kansas City, you will see all the things bad managers do on full display.
Culture is toxic and pathetic. It is a clear reflection of the upper management. 
The hardest part of the job is justifying to yourself the going in every day is a good idea. 
Telling my RDM "I quit" was the best part of my job tenure.


Start of day at 8 a.m. was checking in Security Trucks deposit deliveries over several hundred deposits, then dividing them up between 3 processers. Then would go to my station and begin processing deposits which ranged from 100 to 150 (cash value 100,000.00 -500,00.00), us girls usually ate at our desk took short lunches or we'd not go home until 7p.m. didn't have breaks just went to restroom when needed. Worked with a GREAT group of girls they are all hard workers. Hardest part of the job is being short staffed 
and putting in 10 to 11 hr. days. But the best part was working 
with a group of girls that to this day I consider my good friends and
I still keep in touch with them and pray that they get help to make 
their jobs a little easier. I had a great supervisor she does the best that she can considering her supervisor who is horrible. Upper management doesn't care about how they're working the cash vault team and she tries real hard to help us out with processing if she can. It was real hard for her to dismiss me she cried but her hands were tied and I know it came from higher up everything there is stats and if you don't maintain 98% for 3 months straight (even if its off 1%) your dismissed. Otherwise I loved my job just didn't like how management treats their employee's.

My typical day at this job, is that I am verifying and processing 500 commercial accounts.  Also, while doing this I am filing, book keeping, using currency counters, checking for mutilated and counterfeit monies in order to send them to the federal reserve bank.  I 've learned how to be efficient, accurate, and a goal setter.  My coworkers and I were very family oriented and we looked at each other as family.  The hardest part of this job is that you were responsible for millions of dollars in daily work, and that when trying to balance out your at the end of the day, sometimes a simple mistake can cause you to stay past your regular schedule. That is what I experienced when I first started this job.  The most enjoyable part of this job is that on holidays our department would have holiday parties, and we all celebrated each others birthdays. My management would acknowledge your work performance, and would show their appreciation by giving you the raise that you deserve and also paying for your lunch.

Everyday of the week would vary.  As a TSII, I would be rotating from the desk side where I would open accounts, close accounts, wire transfer money, make phone calls to reach my monthly sales goals and show people how to use our UMB Website for digital banking. 
If I were behind the teller line, I'd handle large deposit dollars from many large corporations as drop offs or from the ATM as well as fulfill .  Excelling in sales goals and cash balancing would be a monthly occurrence.  I felt like an even bigger asset to my team because I was the only fluent Spanish speaker at my branch toward the end of my time working there.   Limited or Spanish speaking only customers felt more of a bond with me and that lead me to another side of the market to reach my sales goals than the rest of the branch.

I learned a lot from UMB, I feel confident in knowing what sorts of bank products to offer new and current customers in order to find ways to save them money.  I really loved my manager and my co-workers.  The hardest part of the job was how not to sound like I was just there to sell them something because I am instantly turned off by that.  The most enjoyable part was actually saving our customers money or earning them money with certain produts.
