A typical day at work includes review patient’s brief case history with nursing staff, check for physician orders, transport patients to and from test locations in various departments in the hospital. I also transport medical equipment, lab specimens, and medications to various departments within the hospital. 
I walk about 8-10 miles in an 8 hour work shift. I have learned to sympathize with patients I come across. I have also become a great team player. Here at the hospital its all about teamwork and communication. I enjoy working with my co-workers. I don't feel like there is a "hard" part at my job. I don't mind all the walking, even though I may be tired. The hardest part maybe seeing patients in really bad conditions but working at UMC, I know they are in good hands. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know different patients all the time. Some I may see year around, on and off, but seeing them get better and get to go home is the best part! The patients get to know me as me and not just a transporter. UMC has always worked with my school schedule, which allowed me to change my work schedule around my school schedule. UMC was ranked among Top 10% of Nation for Outstanding Patient Experience. 

-Typical day: Process, Process, Process, urine, urine, urine, blood, blood, blood. Many phone calls, checking up on laboratory questions several times throughout the day, problem solving, lots of bodily fluids from within the hospital as well as from vendors.

-Learned much about the interworkings of what goes into running a 24 hour lab of that size throughout the day

-Co-workers were mostly effective in getting their tasks done. Had to make up for many of the mistakes that were made from other people.

-The hardest part of the job was: working 12 hour shifts by myself on weekends, many tedious duties including stocking, cleaning, distributing, phone calls, lab results, faxes, one person in the phlebotomy and one person in the processing department was not enough

-The most enjoyable part of the job was a relaxed schedule. I traveled a lot and was able to move around my schedule so long as it was ahead of time, never being absent helped with that.

I was an employee here for about 4 years. I stayed for the benefits, professional development, and I loved the units that I worked on. The teamwork and camaraderie with nursing staff and physicians are boundless. I left because of the workplace hostility, division, and harsh treatment from my direct report that negatively impacted my mental health. During COVID-19 we had very real concerns for our safety (i.e. asking to work from home) that were denied and invalidated. Other departments in the hospital are likely more positive and less punitive, but that was not the case for me. 

Too many times did i witness mistreatment from doctors and nurses towards their patients and even amongst staff. Ex:, harassment in all forms amongst staff, belittling patients due to their appearance (tattoos, poor hygiene, minority,etc..) or lack of insurance, medicaid patients were treated less than or not given proper care because of it, many patients were assumed upon and prejudged based on their history with the hospital (Ex. Patient came in prior with similar symptoms and patient was sent home with either no medication or incorrect medication due to doctor could not diagnose patient. Patient returns with continued symptoms and is treated with less concern because patient is assumed upon as someone just seeking attention or wants medications. Therefore patient remains in pain or sick. Often times patient returns and is admitted in hospital due to doctors lack of concern or ability.) Too many instances to list.

A typical day at work if you work with a good team is great but if you are not with a great team then it is hard. The said department was highly stressful. Noticed that they formed groups and only covered each other so that is not team work. Texas tech students stick together so is a nice place for ttu to work, The say UMC has a diverse culture but if has a long long road ahead when it comes to diversity, Good thing, have the finest technology, all available tools, cons could do better with teaching. I know UMC strive for excellence  with that comes too much expectation that one tends to loose sight of humanity and a little kindness and compassion. There could a better way to go about corrective action . PRO paycheck is good,  accumulation of vacation is good. Health insurance, not much to choose from only team choice and they do not cover a 100%. Expensive if you have family coverage or work part time.

I really enjoyed my job, I felt that I learned something new every day and the training for the job was very thorough and my co-workers and supervisor were so helpful and supportive. However I started as a full time employee and started to feel overwhelmed and stressed out with school, 2 kids, and working full time overnight. When I expressed this to the scheduling manager she was somewhat rude and plainly told me that I would not be able to change my schedule at all and that I should speak to my supervisor. Because I was within 180 days of when I began I would not be able to make any changes to my schedule at all. I immediately came to the realization that this person does not care about what I’ve got going on (even though umc claims to care about their employees deeply) and I quit. Working as a huc was something I really enjoyed. It sucks I had to leave. 

I’ve been working here for a while now, and it’s truly a solid place to work. There isn’t a massive, dramatic story to tell, but honestly, that is exactly where its strength lies. In a world full of chaotic workplaces, the stability, consistency, and respect I experience here every single day are incredibly valuable.
The day-to-day routine is smooth, the management is fair, and the overall environment is genuinely supportive. It’s the kind of company where you can just show up, do your job well, and feel respected for your contributions. There is no unnecessary drama or empty promises—just a reliable, positive atmosphere. I am genuinely happy to work here, and my time with the company has only confirmed that it was a great choice. If you appreciate a dependable, steady, and fulfilling workplace, this is absolutely it. Not much else to say.

Is getting Benefits from calling Insurance companies. Sometime it is not as easy as it may seem.

is the fact that they are willing to help you in any way with everything and no question is a wrong one. They want to see you succeed and grow always.

I'll have to say that at the time that I worked at this (Place) it was a mess from the minute I walked on to the work floor. No body seem to be ready to work, they were either combing their hair or putting on their make-up or setting up for a pot luck.
I learned that this was the most disfunctional place I have ever worked, the management seem to go along with this behavior or fear that she would not be liked, it seem that she lost all control of her staff.
My co-workers were not qualified to do the work that was expected of then.
The hardest part of this job was try to get things going right and setting productivity time.
The enjoyable part of this job was when I gave notice to leave do to a family illiness.
