The Pharmacy department is super high demanding and can be a stressful job. With having such an important responsibilities of  to be quick and accurate at all times. Making and delivering medications to patients in urgent need. Keeping the physicians up to date with their patients ongoing medications and even after the are discharged. Creating plans and structure for the patients continued care of medications after the go home. 
 A few issues is that proper training for new staff is always cut short due to lack of staff or staff positions. Every crew member of the pharmacy department staff is always doing the job of 3 people. No we understand it's not in the budget to gain more staff or rearrange some of the staffs job duties however this does  has a huge affect and burden on feeling valued, feeling accomplished with or satisfied with you work and  tasks given since they are never ending. 
Also gives the staff a ton of work related burnout. 
Working in a place you like with a job you white with a great amount of relatable coworkers a human being should not feel stuck, forced or dread going into their job daily.

The unspoken truth: Union Hospital's Human Resource (HR) Department protects the needs of leadership over protecting the group of hospital/clinic staff members as a whole. Use of employee benefits were discouraged during the Pandemic while staff were suffering from personal and work-related crises, burnout, fatigue, and/or depression. Healthcare Workers are expected to produce results with limited "managerial "support at Union Hospital. There appears to be minimal consequences when poor leadership is evident. Caring for people requires levels of management to provide workers with COMPASSIONATE supervision. Union Hospital does not take care of their valuable employees, and they are fortunate these workers still choose to come to work everyday in spite of this lack of support. Our essential workers and this community deserve better! 

Nurses eating their young is a common theme in the specialty depts (OR, ER, L&D). The bullying is often passive aggressive and insidious and difficult to prove, but has caused frequent turnovers. Those who requested reassignment early on with understanding managers were lucky; many were terminated quickly when they didn’t immediately vibe with the cliques. Gossip, rumors, and outright slander among performance sabotage is a common occurrence that management does not only not address, but feeds into. This is not specific to the nurses; the techs are just as cutthroat. If you aren’t already friends with the people on your unit and you’re viewed as a threat, they make it impossible to flourish and survive. It’s a very toxic atmosphere that claims bullying is not tolerated but there is no protocol in place to discourage it. 
They do hold the door open for new grad nurses to gain employment without work experience but once you arrive on your unit and the staff have already targeted you, there is no coming back and management sees to that.

The clinic serves low-income women needing prenatal care. I was constantly surprised any came back after the way they were treated. There was a doctor when I was working there who thought all the women should adopt out their babies simply because they were low-income. One of the nurses was so mean she made the women cry sometimes. And several times she would come to work smelling of alcohol. The director was some sort of a nut-job herself who had difficulty setting boundaries in her professional or personal life. The hospital culture was maybe typical hospital, I don't know. It was very regimented and inflexible. In addition, the employees were always talking about each other behind each other's backs, gossiping and really very vicious.

A typical day of work is very diverse because each patient has different health conditions and injuries.

I learned something different each and every day.

The management team in my department was very incompetent. Our head manager had her MBA from a non-accredited school. The CT scan manger had her bachelor's in an irrelevant field. My manger was in the process of receiving her bachelor's (online), while I was almost finished with my degree!

My coworkers were great people-compassionate, hard-wording, and humorous. They were very unskilled labor wise and had no more than high school diplomas in most cases.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with incompetent people who were unwilling to listen to advice!

The most enjoyable part of the job was the kind patients and families---seeing their gratitude from my care was irreplaceable.

I spent three years 9-4 pm on the telephone handling questions from patients or family members about hospital accounts and insurance problems.Working as C/S in patient accounts this job is both fulfilling and stressful in todays down turn. It was always great when you could help patients with issue and resolve the problem they requested from C/S, however there where shifts that nothing seem to go right and you felt that you helped no one. Days when you had to speak with a family member who had just lost a loved one was the hardest part and you still had to tell a spouse or parent of minor child that they had to pay the balance on the hospital account.

They don't take care of current employees so there is a huge turnover rate.  They hire new grad nurses in at a higher rate than the nurses who have been there for several years.  As soon as they gained Magnet Status, they degraded the nurse to patient ratio so that the nurses couldn't keep up.  They work the aides to death by giving them 30 patients each and short staff nursing so there is no help.  Management refused to lift a finger to help with ANYTHING during the pandemic but they were more than willing to institute mandatory overtime for everyone except themselves.

Union Hospital gave me a chance as a college student to work and gain knowledge. My manager is wonderful in helping me gain experience and includes me in meetings and/or events that she believes will help me. I am PRN and that gives me flexibility with my class schedule. I have learned more than I ever thought I would. Working in the positive environment at Union has helped me know what to look for in work environment in the future. The administration of Union has its best interest in mind and has helped the hospital tremendously. I would definitely recommend anyone to look for a job at Union Hospital!

Most of my years there were very good and it was an awesome place to work. The past few years it's gone downhill. They overspent on new construction and now don't have money. Management became unfair and in the end a lot of good people who had been there many years were let go that didn't deserve it all because of money and poor management.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Best ICU job I've had. Great people. The ICU runs smoothly. They are organized and well managed. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It wasn't stressful at all. It was a very positive experience. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They treated me like family. Everyone was great. True teamwork. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was actually happy to go to work. We took great care of the patients.
