United States Seafoods is by far the worst company I have ever worked for. They lie about compensation and fail to comply with the most basic federal regulations. They seem to have over 40 employees in their head office which I found strange because they cannot seem to do anything in a timely manner. They are late on sending W2's out and fail to even send you statements of your checks(most likely to hide the money they are stealing from you.) They consistently cut the pay of all fisherman and treat you like you're in a penal colony or something. However, they have given me ample opportunity for advancements in my career due to the fact they don't pay a competitive wage for the industry so anyone who is good at their job will definitely move up fast. I foresee their boats having a majority of green horns soon, losing production capability and possible bankruptcy due to the simple fact they will not maintain any positive morale or competent employees at the rate they are going. It took me about a year of giving them the benefit of the doubt until I began seeking alternate employment options. You will literally make more from unemployment than on their boats MOST(not always) of the time. That all being said, I haven't even begun to discuss their "delayed maintenance" ideology and vessel safety concerns. My advice, give them a WIDE berth.

This company is great if you want to stick around in the industry for a few years. However, if you only plan to complete one or two contracts, then I would say most trips are not worth being away from home to work at sea.

I went out on the Seafreeze Alaska, the ship was filthy, the phones to call home didn't work half the time. And after working 16 hours a day, 7 days week, for 3 weeks I ended up getting paid only $1800; that's only $6 an hour for my first trip.

I was originally told ALL of my plane tickets would be paid for, but then about a day before being flown out to Dutch Harbor I was told that the trip from home to Seattle, would be taken out of my pay. A trip to Seattle and then back home, would mean $1200, would be taken out of my pay.

Do not recommend working for this company for 2 shares pay.. Only do this, if you intend to stick around for several contracts, as they will give you more shares the longer you stick around.

Worst fishing company ever I've worked smaller boats harder labor but rhis company will not appreciate you

Their is alot of favoritism so if your not related to the forman or the same race he is good luck because they treat you like scum

Horrible they would single you out if you weren't the same race as the guys in charge

If you get hurt they still make you work so be ready to work through the pain of a broken bone

But while I was there, people were rude pay was very little for what I was doing, and they took a lot from what I was doing moneywise if they didn’t charge for flights there and back, it wouldn’t be so bad I don’t think I also got into a few fights I don’t even like to fight people coming at me every day very weird culture Poor management I didn’t really see opportunity for advancement even though I was doing everything everybody else was doing I don’t know what the difference was

Lived and worked on a fishing vessel on the bering sea for 2-3months at a time, Packing,proccessing, stacking product, Worked on deck reeling nets in, chipping ice off bow during storms. typical fisherman rough life with this job. hardest part was the 16 n ahalf hour shifts we worked 7days a week, other than that its all mental.

An average day working as a seafood processor for United states seafoods consist of 16-hour shifts.From the beginning of the day til the end of your shift, you constantly move around hoping that you dont slow down production,constantly adapting and overcoming situation with the littlest amount of time.the hardest part that i think i had on my job was adapting to my surroundings.but other than that,i enjoy every aspect of that job

So you have 3 shifts A-B-C 16 hour shifts as long as there is fish. Very fast but manageable they will teach about the classes of fish, their weight and size. Time goes real fast and days very on the fish for the trip. For example P.O.P./Mackerel 6-7 days typically, COD 8-12 days, and the best yellowfin 12-20 days. Remember this all depends on how fast the boat is fishing and the tender boats are coming. So typically they do a real good job in fishing to bang it out an move onto the nest trip.

Every day is different there's always a challenge that we're working on together as a team. The owners of the company come to the office and are involved in the day to day operations.  Interacting with and supporting the crews that are fishing in Alaska makes the job rewarding.

Hands down the most amorphous job and culture I have ever worked in. At the time, people were hired with no clear titles, job descriptions or explanation of beliefs or strategy. It was clearly make up as you go. The business plan was a lot of the same, and therefore strategic business mistakes were made.

The typical work day is a 12 hour work day where you don't have any days of for the duration of your contract. The workload is significant but is balanced by having almost equal time on board and time off. The amount of time off work is the most positive part of this job. You do work in very close quarters with those on the boat so it is important to manage those relationships well. This can be out of your control but does have a large effect on the quality of your contract.
