Provide assistance to a RN Manager and/or Departmental Managers.

Supervising, training staff, ordering flowers and gifts, and other duties as assigned.

Leadership and organizational skills.  Excellent telephone etiquette and creation of normal business correspondence.  
Give instructions and clearly explain problems or situations.  
Build relationships with donors, volunteers, vendors or other internal departments in order to advance professional relationships and fundraising activities. 
Data entry, reports and documents.  Meeting planning, scheduling, travel itineraries, speakers and meetings.  Record, type departmental minutes.

Good:
-Loved my team, loved my managers (can't speak for all units)
-Great benefits
-Great physicians and residents (for the most part)
-Able to acquire a lot of good experience
-Best hospital in the region for students 

Bad:
-High turnover rate 
-Emergency Department and ICU are understaffed and employ mostly 'baby' nurses, which means care and patient outcomes are affected
-It appears administrators don't get the job based on who is the most qualified, but by who they know. 
-Upper administration doesn't genuinely listen to (or choose not to) care about associates' concerns. When they do address issues it seems to be too little, too late.

If administration focused on long-term strategy of decreasing turnover rate by hiring more nurses AND KEEPING them (as well as hiring AND PROPERLY compensating experienced RNs to train the younger ones), outcomes and job satisfaction would improve and I have no doubt they would probably reach magnet status. How can they do that?...easy, talk to the nurses - they will tell you what they need

Under the direction of the Director of Guest Services, assists in developing, researching, planning, organizing, and directing the Hospital Security management plans. Utilizes quality improvement initiatives in the performance of job duties. Participates in the development, documentation, communication, testing, and periodic Security review and revision of business continuity and disaster recovery plans When security breaches occur involving systems within the hospital, assist physical and technical staff in understanding the source of the attack, in assessing and containing damage and in devising measures that will help protect against such events in the future, Form and train incident response units and how to report. Maintain a database of intrusions and incidents, tracking the cost of intrusions. Develop with administration strategic enterprise wide plans for policies, practices, and technology enhancements. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

What is the best part of working at the company?
The benefits are the best part. When your age and the time you've worked at UMC equal 75 you can retire and they'll give you a pretty good monthly pension for life. The insurance is awesome, I now pay for private insurance and it isn't even half as good as the PPO at UMC. It's hard work but worth it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Keeping up with the new requirements in patient care you have to document.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work culture is awesome, everyone wants to help you.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I'm a nurse, so a typical day varies. Mostly it's present yourself to the patient, do the patient assessment, position, address pain, address need to potty then document. Add somewhere in between you eat a small breakfast burrito and coffee(very necessary to stay running) save take a medium lunch. Then get back out there and do it again every 2 hours.

If you dont click you go quick. Every experience is different. Its a great place if you want to learn to be fast and have a different day everyday. Somedays your running around and other days are calm. Nothing is the same unless its the same person. You meet great people to work with and also from different departments, but not everyone is friendly. You get to watch and learn and grow in medical experience, if you want to pursue further. Favorites plays a major role. Theres no teamwork unfortunately and at times your left alone with a work overload if your one to not click with the favorites. Due to understaff and to much work you dont get a break to eat most times. Dont have the right tools to do your job properly and have to improvise to get it done. 

A typical day was to help the patients around the hospital when they couldn't find where something was, or when they couldn't really walk there, and helping with paperwork. I learned how to have proper people skills, and I learned to be an organized person. My co-workers were all great, kind, and very helpful. I don't think there really was a hard part of the job, it was all pretty easy to handle everything. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help the patients because they were very thankful to be helped. It would bring a smile to my face when they had a smile on their face even when their situations weren't the greatest. It was a great opportunity to have been able to volunteer here.

Although the job kept me busy and made me stress, I learned a lot from working here. People I have met have influenced me in a good way, even the negative individuals. 
My coworkers were amazing. There were a few that i bumped heads with but I learned to do my job and let management deal with the problem. 
The hardest part of my job was dealing with my job was having to deal people that wanted the schedule to be their way and not help out. It was hard to work with people that would be flexible and help out others, not only themselves.

This position was very fast paced and was considered a team effort. The daily tasks performed on the job was to attend to the patients and their health conditions. Other tasks performed was to stock the supply room and make sure everything was well organized. Other tasks were when I had to assist in other floors pertaining to open wounds when the hospital was short staff. The other tasks that I needed to perform was to prepare the bodies of those who passed away from complications from delivery (childbirth) either the mother would pass away or the infants who at times were stillbirth or those that physicians knew were never going to survive after birth. Also having the ability to learn in a multicultural setting with patients or medical students, and staff.

There’s good and bad to every job. Things go really well for you if you always say yes. The minute you stand up for yourself or put your foot down when you’re being taken advantage of, that’s when you’re headed downhill. 

UMC is county hospital and teaching facility for Texas Tech Medical school.  I learned as an experienced labor and delivery nurse how to really be a patient advocate because residents don't know what they can and cant do.  I also learned to speak and and stop the line more then once.
Management was excellent but they don't pay well here especially for seasoned nurses.  I also personally feel that to work here you should have worked at private facility to be at better patient advocate with residents.

Hardest part was the slow pace of a c section compared to the private sector.

Most enjoyable is my other best friend worked there and we had a great team.
