-Location (rural) and has a high number of local people which can complicate an organization as everyone knows each other when there are bad seeds/
 
 -The salary advancement opportunity (for PT/FT staff) based on a binder on case studies is not a great way to determine quality clinicians warranting a pay increase as frankly anyone can do that and not really become a better clinician in a meaningful way doing that. Advancement of salary should be based on merit such as clinical outcomes and efficiency/low cancel & no show rate as demonstrates great patient care in a time efficient way which is likely the way insurance reimbursement will be going in the near future.
 
 -The job schedule flexibility regarding options for PRN staff to go Full Time was a major issue as there is no other option (even if you have a long commute) other than five 8 hr days. You can do a lot of extra things outside of the normal workday that bring benefit to the business that others hadn’t done (community education, marketing, independent podcast creation, and getting the first CEU course to be hosted at the facility ever) and it didn’t matter as a flexible sustainable schedule was not going to be given due to the manager’s concern of upsetting other employees showing the avoidance of conflict which has resulted in numerous people leaving over the years. I couldn’t stay at this place long term due to not being able to advance forward despite my extra efforts and contributions as it doesn’t speak favorably to me as an employee and asking for a more flexible schedule only isn’t that much to ask when there are no policy restrictions against it.
 
 -Employee input to change in department on issues not seriously acknowledged and same issues persist for years despite multiple staff bringing up issues. Each year we had to fill out a form of strengths/weaknesses/ideas and we frankly didn't find it worthwhile to do as nothing was going to happen with it.
 
 -Inefficiency of front desk system as clinicians have to do much more than they should despite the high number of front desk staff.
 
 -Manager avoidance of conflict and being too by the book.
 
 -Space issues in clinic and facility
 
 -Overall, if you are local to the area and can tolerate a 5-day work week with stability and decent money being your main goal with a good team then it’s a great place for you. If you are an innovative individual who wishes to push forward with positive change and really grow and in return get more benefit for the merit then this is not the long term place for you. If you live far away then don’t expect any schedule flexibility as it won’t be given despite how much extra you do and despite your merit.

The benefits are amazing. You really can't beat them especially for the cost. However, the pharmacy is run so poorly it makes it hard to want to stay there. They act like they listen to you, but then they just keep doing the same stuf they have been doing. The sad part is they changed things that made it better and it still is awful. Disorganized is an understatement. This place could be an amazing place to work if they would fix a lot of things. Set schedules could make it much easier not only on staff, but management instead of constantly having to train people on a bunch of different shifts. Time, energy, and money could be saved exponentially by simply making shifts set. They claim they can't, yet somehow the nursing department manages to have set shifts and schedules for their employees and there are definitely way more cogs in that wheel than the pharmacy technician's. There are similar sized hospitals that have set shifts/schedules so it can be done so it merely appears to be laziness and aloofness that keeps it from happening there. You get a lot of PTO and that is good, but then you have to make up time in certain scenarios if you use it. (Yet managers and supervisors take their time off without any restraints placed upon them). They pick and choose who they want to train in all areas while others are left to the worst job within the pharmacy. A lot of great techs have left and it all comes down to management (or mismanagement). Due to high turnover you barely want to even try to get to know the new techs because they'll likely quit about the time you form a bond with them as coworkers. The raises are laughable. No one will ever get "exceeds" because VCU requires tons of paperwork to give you a measly 3% raise. So the most you will ever get is 2%. It's a slap in the face to all of the people who work very hard and have to go above and beyond because there are so many who just don't care enough to do their job fully. Until recently their pay was extremely competitive, but now retail pharmacies are paying what they pay (or close to it) and you come out ahead when you consider the cost of parking. I've been with the company less than a year and I can't even count how many people have left since I have been there. 

Currently maintain and manage the Lawson supply chain database, including uploading new supplies, inventory and purchasing contracts.  I worked very closely with the Lawson consultants and VCU Richmond supply chain team on the Lawson implementation at CMH.  I extracted all of the purchasing information from CPSI to convert and upload into Lawson.  I was the main point of contact at CMH for the GHX conversion to VCU GHX onboarding.  I extracted all of the CMH GHX boarded vendor information for the VCU conversion.  Maintain and initiate the continual vendor boarding process for CMH.  Specialize in the preparation, review and administration of supply, equipment and service contract proposals.  Manage contracts and lease agreements to ensure competitive pricing and quality service.  Identify and maintain cost savings from contract conversions and supply negotiations.  Review contract terms, conditions, tiers, levels, pricing and commitment agreements.  Develop vendor comparison analytics and perform data extraction from supply chain information systems/databases.  Analyze product cross reference information from vendors and prepare comparative and computational analysis.  Utilize GPO and other databases to continually monitor contract compliance and expiration.  I’m responsible for the coordination of product and equipment trials.  I’m responsible for continual evaluation of our value analysis process to ensure adherence to an effective and efficient method of monitoring and standardizing supply, equipment and service selection utilization and cost management.  Maintain databases and original records of all service agreements, contracts and leases.  Maintains supply chain product inventory database.  Currently serves as a member of the Value Analysis committee and sub-committees.  Currently serves as a member of the Clinical Practice Patient Safety committee.

This is a very flexible job. They are great with working with their employees and making sure everyone is happy in the end. The environment is diverse and unique. Being that the center is for the hospital employees we are open 364 days a year and from 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 mignight to accomodate the needs of families. 

A day of work starts with me in a classroom; that classroom may be different each day becuase I am flex and I could get pulled out one place to go to another in the middle of the day. I am completely ok with that and find that it works well for me. I like learning about children and people of all ages. I transform to respond to whichever group I am with for that period. There also is an adult care onsite where I am trained in. We work a lot on intergenerational activites that the children and elders can enjoy. 

Management is developing into somthing awesome. There are levels to getting exactly where you want to be as a manager and they are doing well at accomplishing this goal.

The co-workers are friendly and have the common goal of doing whats best for the children. Ages vary and so do personalities but for the most part its a great mixing bowl or originality.

The hardest part of the job would be watching a parent drop off a child who isn't excited about leaving mommy and daddy. We have to step in and make the child feel comfortable to be in our care and trust us to keep them safe until mommy and daddy return. It really can be heartbreaking. 

I find enjoyment in doing things the kids wouldn't expect: bringing a special snack in, going to visit younger siblings in another class, or watching videos on the computer about something we are discovering in the classroom. It makes me happy to know I have so many great relationships with so many families and I am who they put their trust into everyday to ensure a safe, healthy learning environment for their loved ones.

Job offers excellent benefits (health, maternity and school reimbursements, etc). Amazing people. The culture for admins is pretty good. Everyone works together and assist if it's needed. 

Just being honest, starting pay is not good for people in this role. Wish they valued admins more and compensated equally to like positions in the area. Pay can be from $10-$15.00 an hr.  A plus to the poor pay, their benefits are great. They provide education assistance so if you are looking forward to attending school while working, this is a great place to start. It's also easy to move up. There are a lot of internal positions here so once you've been here a year or two there are plenty of opportunities to move to another role/department. Most managers want you to grow and find your fit and will work with you either with going to school and giving you a little flexibility with your schedule or giving advice on getting into a new department. This may vary depending on your position and manager. 

You will have to pay for your parking. If you choose to use VCU/VCUHS' parking, money will be deducted from your paycheck every pay period. If you choose not to use VCU/VCUHS parking you will have to get in early to find parking somewhere downtown, which is a pain in the butt. VCU provides a shuttle system, however they are slow. If you decide to take the shuttle you will need to take into account 10-15 extra minutes everyday to get into work and getting back to your car. 

Random: If you are a mother and plan on breastfeeding and need a pump room...it can be difficult here. The hospital literally only has (2-3 rooms available) - which isn't a lot at all when you have 11,000 employees here. There aren't enough rooms, there's always a line during peak times.

I found that my time working at VCU, specifically Training, to be interesting to say the least. Advancement within that area is impossible. But would you really want to stay there? 

The skills required on the job posting and in the interview versus what really was needed - yeah HUGE disconnect.  

The managers tend to be passive aggressive at best when they have problems - which is unfortunate. An 'under our thumb' management style with obnoxious undercurrents makes for crazy seas ahead. Bring your wetsuit and 'thick skin' when they start rolling out the 'its just business, not personal' jargon. Right...yet some of the conversations and interactions say otherwise.
(reading out ER charts from the computer to the whole office and messaging them - I'm sure that is a big privacy violation there) 
I could go on but really its not worth the effort.  
 
The only saving grace in this department are the other trainers and the doorman. (yep, you read that right!)  They seem to have similar struggles with management on a daily and weekly basis as well. There is a theme here...

Save yourself and your sanity by applying somewhere else. This one particular branch of VCU Health System was very 'we will help you and make your experience great' but ultimately it failed. The company is not private and in this case it shows. It seems to be that ill trained managers who are inappropriate are just put up with in a system that encourages tenure more than skill. 

As someone who is not new to the workforce, I did learn a great deal of how not to be a manager. When my time comes to guide a team - I will remember everything Training instilled in me and do the exact opposite.

I went to school at VCU, and decide to work here. They are VERY strict about clocking in 7min before and 7min after your shift, but they only have 2 time clocks for over 100 people. Naturally, this causes problems. The Pyxis system is broken, or out of scrubs at least twice a week. There are NO lockers available, and someone stole my belt once, shoes twice, and my pants more times than I can remember. Management only cares about the nurses, and their happiness. Many of them scrub, so there are usually more nurses than techs, and they treat us like were are expendable. They are very quick to fire techs if the nurses don't like you. Very cluttered, and dirty OR in the center tower with the trauma rooms. I left after a few months. I used to travel, and this was hospital number 15. I was planning on making it a permanent place, because of school, but I could not take the way they treated the other employees. I had a few small problems, but when I saw how they talked to and treated some of the techs that were there for over 11 years, I had seen enough. The nurses get a break and lunch, but for techs they just give a 45min lunch, but it could come at the end of the day, and they say just leave early. (It happens more often than they will say upfront) Finally, anesthesia can do NOTHING wrong! If they come back, and your are not ready, it is the techs fault Always, except during hearts.

 Revenue management is very toxic, with a heavy emphasis on micromanagement and productivity. Instead of trusting their employees, leadership insists on controlling even the smallest details, creating an environment of constant stress.

Team morale is consistently low, and turnover is high, which should be a clear red flag to anyone paying attention. If you value professional respect, independence, or a supportive environment, this is not your place. Stay away from this leadership. Too much of favoritism

To make matters worse, they hired two people with no relevant experience or qualifications for key roles in pharmacy authorization and insurance issues, and they are not even certified as pharmacy technicians.

How can you lead a team with zero knowledge or experience in the field? That's the question that defines this workplace.

Attention HR, please investigate this hiring process under this management.

Decisions are made by individuals who don't understand the work yet still feel entitled to dictate how it should be done.
The result? A frustrating, demoralizing environment where talent is overlooked, incompetence is rewarded, and high turnover is the norm. Avoid unless you're desperate—or enjoy chaos.


If you value your time, mental health, or professional growth, look elsewhere. This place will drain you.

The director is constantly on chat—even when she's on vacation—expecting updates, micromanaging every move, and leaving no room for employees to breathe, let alone focus.



What is the best part of working at the company?
Absolutely nothing I hate the commute. And the parking really is disgusting and it’s unsafe the security does not patrol the parking lot ! The management team is not educated and not well fitted for the role. You only see the management team when they’re leaving for the day at 3 o’clock no later than 3:38 PM. The company as a whole is unfair because they let people transfer without waiting an introductory. Six months!
I asked to be transferred because I had an issue with an employee and they told me I could not transfer so instead they just have me sit here and be provoked and bullied instead of just transferring me to another department and that came straight from HR!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being bullied every  week! Parking in an unsafe environment, and leaving late hours and not feeling protected by the company!
Work is not distributed correctly!
(People are allowed to be on their personal cell phone phone throughout the entire day having personal conversations at the front desk! )

Horrific, unsteady, unworthy disorganized, and confusing unfair and favoritism exists!

I constantly hear people state that they hate their job! Equipment doesn’t work so it makes my job very hard and it sets me back, but the daily deadlines are still being beat in my head!!

Overseas daily operations of VCU Health System mobility projects, which include, but are not limited to: compliance with operational policies and procedures, reconciliation of budgets, completes all tasks according to the project plan and ensures all new hires complete all mandatory required training.
