It’s a nice place to start your career, if you can handle several challenges. Specifically, there is a huge lack of diversity and respect between management and employees. For example, paid holidays are selected & voted on by a board that doesn’t include not one person of color, but diversity is supposed to be very important. Although it’s a FQHC, all federal holidays aren’t observed (ex. Martin Luther King Jr. Day) which seems a little odd and racial. All onboarding training is done by outdated videos. There is no 90 day check in or evaluation. Management is poor, and lacking not only diversity but also quality. There no protocol for grievance, and there are several situations of nepotism throughout the organization. On top of the high turnover within HR. Opportunities for advancement are very limited, and evaluations aren’t completed throughly.

I learned it does not matter if you have good attendance, performance is high, do extra work and do what your told, if you make the wrong person mad, your gone.
 Some departments are highly micromanaged and if you speak up your done.
Workplace culture is again based on the department. They will do anything and everything to get you fired if they don't like you or feel like you don't "fit in". Worked there for almost a year got wrote up one time which was the first write up i have ever had in my 10 years. The dates on the write up were invalid as I was not at work on the days the so called events happened. They said providers were complaining yet one of the providers let me read what she said to the supervisor and it was nothing but positive and good things. You can not advance whatsoever unless you are "besties" with the supervisors. Work i=environment is absolutely the worst i have ever experienced in my 10 years of my career.


Work is pretty straight forward, do your job and go home at the end of the day.

Management is mixed and depends what department what you work in. Most the dartments are great and you are recognized for your work. Some departments are highly micromanaged and if you speak up your done.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the reverse as it is in other jobs. The executive team CEO, Vice President and most of the Chiefs that are doctors and most of the medical staff are fantastic and enjoyable to be around, they really believe in the mission of Variety Care. 

I worked here for almost a year. I enjoyed my job, I enjoyed the provider that I worked for. However, they say they’re disability friendly- they are not. They say they’re supportive of single parents- they are not. HR blatantly lied on a write up stating they had given me a warning beforehand, when they did not. My kid had the flu then 2 weeks later had Covid. That was held against me. I lost both of my grandparents within a month of each other- my job was threatened the day after my grandmothers funeral. They only allow bereavement pay once a year. They are not understanding to moms that need to leave work- or calls ins due to a disability that I was very transparent about having. Management picks and chooses who they want to be buddy/buddy with, and will let everyone else drown. This is not a place to work for the disabled or the single parent. If you fall under that category, stay away.  

Variety Care is an amazing organization when it comes to the mission and values.  However, there is a lack of foundation to build from.  It seems that organization grew fast and furious, but there was no one making sure that standardization was in place, that job roles were clearly defined and the culture was being nurtured along with the growth. 
New operational leadership has begun to correct these issues and are beginning to close the gaps and firm up the foundation.  Processes are being defined and put into practice, standard work is being identified and staff are being trained.  Toxic work elements are being addressed and there is a turn around already being seen and felt.  
The future is looking much better. 

The fact that you work for a company and can be a part of helping people get good health care is a great feeling.  The providers are amazing! The worst part is that there is too much favoritism shown. A lot of gossiping, back stabbing and pettiness to those who prefer not to be a suck up. Talk to most departments and you'll hear that everyone is over worked and tremendously under paid. But people are afraid to speak up for fear of getting labeled a "trouble maker" and once you're on that list it's hard to get treated fairly by management. 

I am sad to see the negative comments on this page because my experience with Variety Care, in the pharmacy, was that it is a great job. I worked there for 2+ years then had to leave to go to school full time. But while I was there, I thought the employees were easy to work with and had a great attitude towards one another. The workload is typical pharmacy technician skills. The benefits were great. I had the opportunity to learn more because of the smaller pharmacy setting while still keeping busy with normal workday duties. Extra perks were the hours, off holidays, good pay and great work environment. It is a very good company to work for.

Is a great place for people fresh out of school. Management has favoritism and team leads have attitudes. The pay is poor for everything they ask the MA to complete during patient visits from visit prepping, checking in patients, vitals, SOGI, CRC, Prapare, A1C, IH labs, Translation, EKG, Faxes, Private Stock Injections. HPI all of this plus more on a 10-20 minute appt. Starting MA at 11.50. Receptionist are making as much as a MA and Optical Staff are started at more than MA. Most optical staff don’t have medical background, most of them started as receptionist. Variety has a huge MA and staff turn over due to to pay and poor management.

As a startup job Variety Care is not bad, after you are their longer you start to see how bad management deals with issues. They don’t appreciate your hard work, they are very gossipy. When it comes to backing you up in any area, because a patient or provider is impatient, rude, disrespectful, and irate they are not available. They side with the person giving the employee grief. Management has favoritism towards certain employees specially the once who don’t do their job but go gossip with management.

When I first started at Variety Care it seemed to be a really good place to work but here recently with the changed involved with the  Coleman Group things have gone downhill.  The is a administrative group that we were told was to come in and help us with our work flow but really it is just about seeing more patients in lest time. Things have gone downhill and people are leaving left and right. Now the providers there are seeing even more patients than ever. Someone is going to get hurt because of this.
