Management is a joke here. Everybody do what they want to do. (well some. they pick and choice). A typical day is loading your truck with expired food to deliver to children at school for breakfast and lunch which most of the time the schools send back. Which they just change the dates on some of the items and resend it the next day.  Variety management have their favorite people that will get the best trucks, best route, and most hours. Its alot of discrimination that goes on there. The HR and upper management DO NOT care about your safely, DO NOT care about the employers, and they really DO NOT care about they customers. They lied and told me I can get full time hours when school open after summer break but never received full time, (Only part time). The only good thing about Variety is working alone if you are a driver. I wouldn't recommend anybody to work at Variety Food Services. Am surprised they still have company.

Depending on department you worked in job was ok, not hard. Not very good management, hostile work environment. Staff more involved in their social lives then getting job done and done right which makes it harder for those that have to pick up their slack and management didn’t care, only concerned with bottom line. No advancement opportunities. Great work/life balance.  Pretty low pay depending on what department you work in.  They go through a temp service so there is a lot of turnover. If you were only concerned in getting a paycheck and this is a decent place to work but if you care about the quality of your work and any advancement opportunities then this is not the right place for you.

This is a FANTASTIC place to work!  The work environment is comfortable, and relaxed.  The employees are GREAT!  Management is SUPERB!  Although Variety Food Services is a VERY well known company with a HUGE clientele, it is still operating as a small, friendly, family owned business!  It has that “small business” feel, with a huge corporation clientele base.  Their services have expanded expeditiously, to include not only what they are known for (vending), but they operate several Michigan school lunch programs, senior nutrition programs, they operate independently at the “big three” facilities with their newest addition, “Micro Market”.  The list goes on.  It’s a great place to work, and a great place to make a career.  They make you feel like one of the family!

Third generation family-owned business, good people to work for.  Typical day can either be crazy-busy or somewhat slower depending on the workload.  What I've learned while working for this company is that hard work and keeping it professional does pay off but at a smaller company such as this one, you can only go so far.  My co-workers are so different from one another, it's a complete mix of personalities.  Learning to work with all of the different personality types has proved challenging sometimes, but it's also one of the most favorite parts of my job.

They put on a good front and most places they deliver to is infestated with cockroaches and management sucks and HR as well. They are located in Warren,mi but take out Detroit taxes and when you opt out to not get medical benefits they still take out the money and doesn't return it. In the interview tour employees told me to run. I thought it was in a joking manner until I started. As I was training I road with a few people and legit all they did was talk about how horrible the place was and they give free lunches and eat your own risk because it make me sick Everytime. Their trucks suck driving. They let me go with out a specific reason

I feel valued at this company.   They are a team of people who care for and appreciate every member on the team.   They are fair, honest, respectful, and hardworking.  They are a family owned and operated business and it shows in their actions and the way they treat people.   They always give team members grace, patience, and the benefit of the doubt.   They provide all their team members with free lunch everyday which is very rare for the company size and industry.   

I have had a great experience working at Variety FoodServices. The company truly values its employees and provides a supportive and friendly work environment. Management is approachable and always willing to listen to feedback, making it a great place to grow professionally.

The work is well-structured, and the team atmosphere makes it enjoyable to come in every day. They offer good benefits, competitive pay, and opportunities for advancement. If you're looking for a stable and rewarding job in the food service industry, I highly recommend Variety FoodServices!

The micromanaging mangers that only xarr about the dollar rather than the output of the quality of food sent to schools for students.

Doing your job and the work of four other people to get the task done.

Toxic at best. If you speak up you get punished.

Click in, have management tell you that you aren’t doing it correctly, try to do it again.

It’s a great place to work everyone is helpful and caring there to teach and help you in in way they can

The heat that comes from working in the kitchen

Very nice everyone gets along very well

Getting food ready to go out for the school meals then being to start the meal for the seniors lunch and dinner

Management is unorganized and unable to complete the jobs they delegate which leads to poor leadership. You can’t manage someone if you don’t know what they do.

This business is third generation and it shows, total nepotism, low pay and weak leadership skills makes for an ever-revolving staff. 

No incentive = lazy employees and managers because there’s no reason to make the effort, it goes unacknowledged, but they will fire you a few times in an attempt to deflect their poor decisions.
