Job Description: Reviewing charts to find diagnoses relevant to risk adjustment and also to find gaps in care (mammograms, colonoscopies, etc). Working closely with MD offices, MDs, and office workers to coordinate chart review of eligible patients.
Base Pay: Starts mid $60,000 regardless of location. Salary. Yearly merit increases are 2% to 3%.
Bonus: None (replaced with incentive program)
Incentive Program: If you work extra, you are eligible to get an incentive payment. The payment structure is extremely complicated and includes two groups of “tiers”. One group is how many “extra” charts you complete (above your personal expectation given to you by management). The other group is how accurate your charting was as determined by QI Review (this is not always reflective of your personal work, but can be skewed by providers signing off on the charts). Both groups have 5 tiers and you are placed in a tier based on your level. These tiers are then combined to find your total incentive per chart. This changes monthly. It is very difficult to figure out your exact tier and they don’t provide much information to you on this, just give you a monthly payment. In August they reported to VCCs that there was an error in their calculations and they would withhold any amount that had been overpaid until it was repaid, at which time they would restart your personal incentive payments. Most VCCs have not received an incentive payment since then and we are still awaiting explanations on where the overpayment was and how much was overpaid to each individual.
PTO: 4 weeks per year
Benefits: I do not use their benefits so cannot speak on them.
Work Hours: 40 hours Monday through Friday. Hours are allowed to be flexed from 6am to 9pm, however you must be present for scheduled meetings.
Work Expectations: You have 2 work expectations. One is the number of charts you complete per week. Work other than completing chart reviews (meetings, travel, etc) are given equivalencies (time spent = a specific number of charts). The other is 40 hours per week. If you exceed the number of charts required before you hit 40 hours, then you continue working until you hit 40 hours. In other words, if you complete your work load, you are not able to stop working like in many salary positions. You must work a minimum of 40 hours every week unless you have PTO.
Work Location: Varies. I have had times where I have been completely remote/work from home for a few months. I also had times where I was in the field at offices 5 days per week, all day. You should be willing to drive up to 2 hours away. You are given equivalencies for travel (it is counted as work time). You cannot work in any location other than your home office or an MD office (this would be a huge HIPAA concern if you did). You can ask for approval to work away from your home office, if you are visiting family in another state, for instance, and don’t want to use PTO, however there are stipulations and it must be approved prior.
Atmosphere: Somewhat dependent on local management. There is a very high rate of turnover among VCCs and among local management. I have had managers that will allow you to have autonomy if you are meeting expectations and I have had managers that are extremely micromanage-y. As a whole, the trend is definitely toward extreme micromanagement. As for upper management, my experience has been terrible. I will give 2 examples of the normal work atmosphere. 1. During one meeting, I was literally told the company “owns” the employees during work hours. 2. I was asked by another VCC if I could ask a question in a meeting because the other VCC felt like everyone who asked questions was yelled at. I asked her questions and was immediately asked why I would ask that and made to feel dumb. This attitude has been repeated many times to many VCCs. Asking questions of upper management almost always leads to debasing employees and making them feel that their questions are dumb. Local management is not as bad but that is probably dependent on each local manager.
Technology: You are given a laptop, 2 screens, and keyboard and mouse. You should be comfortable with Microsoft Outlook and Teams. The company uses an application that tracks every second you are actively working. If you are inactive you are logged out and you lose the work time that you had put in. I do not even take a bathroom break or get a drink without first logging out because I may lose my work time. The IT Team is amazing to work with and if you put in a ticket they almost always get back to you and resolve it that day.
Bottom Line: Overall, I have stayed at this company because I value the flexibility. I have very little other positive feedback to give. The overall atmosphere is one of distrust of the RN-VCC as a professional employee. The pay is low. The yearly raise is low. Nonexistent bonus replaced with an “incentive program” (really just a fancy way of saying overtime). The incentive program is riddled with problems and there is no way to verify if your personal incentive is accurate or not. You may get lucky in that it is a true work from home job. More likely you will be asked to visit offices on a regular basis (for instance, if you have a practice assigned to you that uses paper charts -much more common than you think- you will be expected to visit that office regularly to work on charts onsite). Just hope it is not every day, in which case the flexible work hours are dependent on when the MD office is open.


I've worked for Vatica Health for approximately 1 year. I've had many employers, but this has been my favorite job so far. Vatica is a young but established, growing company with many opportunities. You'll get all the fun of a startup (diverse skill training, wear many hats, grow in to your own role, advancement, ability to make a real difference and have your voice heard), without the downside unpredictability of a true startup that could fold at any time.

Tech skills would be highly advantageous. Nothing elaborate, but IT troubleshooting, basic networking, keyboard fluency, and some essential shortcuts/macros will save you a lot of time.

New graduates can be accepted into entry level positions. Strong clinical knowledge is super helpful. Again, this can be learned, but your transition will be much easier if you have at least an average mastery of A&P, Patho, and Pharm.

Interpersonal skills are a MUST. You will be working with lots of different kinds of outside individuals- doctors, office staff, practice managers, administration. 

The ideal candidate would be an eager learner, relationship oriented, self-starting, critical thinking, and a problem solver. 

Pay is very competitive, benefits are standard, work life balance is exceptional. 

I've learned more about the business of healthcare in the last year than the rest of my career combined. Management has allowed me the flexibility to develop skills in my areas of interest and tackle the projects that most interest me. I believe they value my professional development. They even provide an annual CE benefit, something that is quite hard to find for non-providers.

The biggest downside of being in a rapidly growing company is the work volume can be unpredictable and prone to spikes. I have never been underworked, but I've often been comfortable, with temporary spikes depending on staffing and region specific demands. But keep this in context - many other industries have similar cycles, which result in 60-80 hour work weeks. My busiest week is not even in the same ballpark.

Overall, I would highly recommend you pursue employment at Vatica. I am beyond happy that I did, and I plan to stay here for the foreseeable future.

Years ago this company was a great place to work. With prideful employees who were treated like professional adults. In return the clinical consultants were producing inventory above and beyond and striving to stay on top of large volumes of work. Now this has been turned around and has headed in the opposite direction driving employees to have one foot out the door looking for work elsewhere. Due to zero "transparency" from the company (despite it being their favorite word they throw around) employees are no longer willing to go above and beyond. The only thing transparent is the way we can all see right through their answers and responses trying to gaslight their employees. Multiple errors from the company messing with employee's time and money is really going to cost them.  Inventory is some of the highest they've seen right now and employees are less motivated than ever due to being treating like children,and micromanaged  to a level that is truly sad. Things were getting done when salaried employees were treated as such allowing them to plow through inventory and produce high quality and quantity work without micromanaging their every minute and paying them what they deserve for extra work above and beyond. Instead this company has let down its employees by continually making things more complicated than they need to be, insulting them, and screwing up the processes they continue to try to put in place. If you are a nurse looking for remote work this company is not your answer. The pay is significantly less  than other work from home RN opportunities. What used to make up the difference was the ability to earn incentive for extra work if you choose. Instead you would now give your time to not know if at all, how much, or when you will be paid. Now months later they came back and say we owe thousands to them for an incentive program overpayment so complicated they couldn't even execute it correctly. They cannot be trusted with anyone's time or money. It is chaos starting with the leaders up top and trickling down, leaving disgruntled employees who produce their product. It is a recipe for disaster.

I have been an RN for almost 14 years, and I have worked a lot of places. Vatica has to be one of my favorite at this point! We got off to a rocky start when HR changed my start date the week before I was supposed to start (to a month out!), but I am so glad I stuck it out! This is such a fun, innovative company, and everyone I have dealt with has been so nice. I love that our CEO/CMO/etc higher ups are on meetings and calls, and interact with us on a regular basis. This job is a lot different from hospital nursing, and the pay is a bit less, but to be able to work from home and NOT stress about patients dying every day is a GODSEND! About the only "negative" thing I can say is that you HAVE to be flexible. Not say you are, but actually be. Things change quickly, sometimes on the daily, and for a lot of people, that is frustrating. But if you can roll with it, you'll find that everyone works together and gets it done!
I've told all my RN friends that this is THE place. And for all of us who survived working in the hospital, especially during this pandemic, the substantial stress relief alone is worth it!

All work is timed and micromanaged. Every minute of your day is expected to be logged in your calendar with ridiculous numeric entries (they don’t trust that we’re working if they can’t see it logged).

Very top heavy company. HR Department has 16 employees and 8 of them have titles. 

Senior leadership is completely out of touch with their employees. 

Annual bonus was taken away for nurses and replaced by a ridiculous incentive program—-does anyone know what a quintile is? Don’t worry, neither does Vatica. The calculations for this incentive was made to be so complicated that there was no possible way to keep track of our own earnings. Turns out, it was also too complicated for them to figure out. There were supposedly overpayments made and we’re expected to pay back thousands of dollars. Not to mention that it took them over four months to try and recalculate what the correct payments should have been. 

Keep an eye on your PTO. Constantly switching payroll and benefits platforms resulting in errors in your PTO accrual. 

But we get to work from home (for a company that has absolutely no appreciation for its employees). The only plus to working for this company is WFH. 


Where do I even begin. The most out of touch, clueless, immature leadership I have ever worked for. They recently took away our bonus possibility and attempted to convince us they were doing us a favor by replacing it with an incentive program where we could work to earn more money. They made that program so complicated, on purpose, so that we couldn't understand it, then proceeded to tell us that they made a calculation error for months in a row and overpaid us for our work. Now we have to pay it back. What an absolutely absurd thing to do. You make a mistake and make your employees pay for it? Oh and then, in the midst of all of this, the clueless leaders post how well the company is doing and winning awards etc. They are so blind that they can't see how furious their entire nursing staff is and then they rub it in our faces by posting about winning awards? Who do they think won those awards for them? THE NURSES THEY ARE RUNNING ALL OVER. 
There is about to be a mass exodus and they don't even see it coming. 

I would NEVER recommend anyone work here. It is the actual worst company and management I've ever worked for.

I started working for Vatica in 2016 in the Western New York area.  I had just graduated from nursing school when Vatica hired me.  To be honest I didn’t know what to expect since the company was just starting to develop, but I made the best decision of my life.  I have seen tremendous growth in the company, and I can see that the future looks promising.  My manager and team are incredibly supportive, hard working, and respectful of individual ideas. In just two years, I have been promoted twice, so there is certainly room for advancement.  I have a great amount of independence and even get to work from home some days. This career gives me the opportunity to meet healthcare professionals, the chance to grow individually, professionally, and be flexible with my schedule.  The Vatica team is a pleasure to work with and is always willing to help each other.  Overall, I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work for Vatica.

Bonus structure is horrible. Overpayment was supposedly made in August and there is still no transparency to how much each of us was overpaid, and there is NO INCENTIVE for employees in a program that you have no idea how much money you will make or when you will get that money. The whole company feels to be in chaos making erratic changes in who we report too, moving members of our team around, etc. VCCs are now left with overwhelmed, and inexperienced managers and lack the daily support needed in remote environment. Not to mention I have one manager, and then also report to 2 other managers based on my lead accounts. This is not efficient of our time or management’s time. There are some major pros to Vatica  like rewarding daily work, autonomy, relationships with other nurses but the culture is changing and not for the better.  Value your employees, listen to what motivates them, and  regain a positive and efficient work culture. Right now nothing at the VCC level is comfortable or productive. 

I have been with Vatica Health for 2 years. I work with an incredible team of registered nurses and a LCSW. I have the independence of working from home and in various physician practices. However, I also have the support of a strong team to assist with workflow and practice challenges. Vatica is an exciting place to work as it is always evolving and changing to keep pace with the world of healthcare. Vatica is an organization where the sharing of new ideas is ALWAYS welcome. The corporate culture is one I have never experienced. From the CEO down to the VCC, everyone seems to have a listening ear. We all CARE about what we do and how it affects patients, providers and payers. I was a little nervous leaving clinical care. I think it would be strange for a clinician not to be. But I know with 100% certainty that I made the right decision and found my niche. Vatica is a wonderful place to work and it's due to the fantastic people who are Vatica.

Then go somewhere else. As someone with previous work at home experience who tried to promote unity I was told that leadership did not appreciate my efforts. I can't imagine anyone not appreciating a positive and encouraging e-mail message at the start of, middle of and end of their week. Apparently management likes to be in a funk all the time.

It was also discouraging to have to find things to occupy my time as the volume of work was sorely lacking.

When I submitted an expense report for reimbursement of expenses that I was told would be paid, management got upset that I listed ALL of my expenses, which I did for tax purposes next year to claim unreimbursed work expenses. Rather than pay only what had been approved, I was reprimanded for submitting those expenses.
