I’ve worked at four different behavioral health hospitals before this one and this job was the one that made me throw in the towel! It was the worst experience ever. You are overworked and underpaid. The only time the company sees you as valuable is when you’re working yourself to the ground in OT when they need you because they can’t keep staff. They don’t care about your coworkers actually doing their jobs to help mend some of the chaos that goes on with their patients they only care that employees show up for work you can be drowning and your managers will literally be in their offices playing with an oculus and no I’m not kidding. They only schedule enough employees to meet the legal requirements they do not care about acuity or take in any consideration for how their building is made and the rules THEY set. For example if there are 20 patients there’s only two techs, the hallways on the units are long & are T shaped so each end of the hallways are blind spots. Ideally the adolescent patients are to be up and inside the day rooms during the day so “technically” two staff members would be enough IF the ideal situation ever happened which it never did. The adolescents roam around breaking rules and going into their rooms all day long while you’re expecting to keep track of 10 patients you can’t keep together. You can request support from other staff all day but you’ll never get it. Incidents happen constantly and they have the nerve to question how you didn’t witness it happening when you can barely keep track of the kids. They barely have groups or activities they just basically throw a bunch of mental and behavioral challenged kids in one room and expect the techs to be able to keep them contained all day with no help. I’m not one to yell and I don’t believe in yelling at children so I never had them under control. I literally left overstimulated and stressed out everyday with a paycheck that barely helped to pay anything.

I loved being there encouraging and inspiring others.The biggest problem was that everytime someone would make a mistake =termination, was the cost.When the rules constantly changed.Theres some staff members there that cared and some who just wanted a check.If your heart is in your work it would show.Strangely they never noticed the really rotten workers.But i never regret the experience.Afterall pressure makes diamonds. I loved my coworkers we were like family,I especially loved the kids nomatter how challenging they could be.I guess i just see the good in everyone. I would just encourage staff to be more supportive of their workers, pay everyone fairly. Never get comfortable bcuz anyone at anytime can be terminated. Thats become the answer terminate anyone who opposes to the system .

As an RN for over 45 years and having served as a Chief Executive previously 
I can say without hesitation this is one of the worst organizations I have ever had the misfortune to be employed at

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Short staff
NO communication with Admissions and the assigned bed 
Too many patients were Not medically cleared before being admitted 
Very dangerous situation!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment was unprofessional and the techs tended to “run the shift”


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hour shifts
Very busy as the evening shift got most of the admissions with a skeleton crew

The co-workers are amazing
Administration needs a complete overhaul-It's all about money tbh
You'll learn alot; Great experience to have on your resume
Work/Life Balance is doable if you set firm boundaries
A whole lot of paperwork; Very little 1:1 time with clients
High-Stress Depending on the unit and milieu
Employee concerns are not taken seriously/They don't pay enough
When you do speak up you get condescending, patronizing responses from administration; Turnover is high in all departments 
You get to help people when they're at their lowest point in life


Administrative staff are bullies and don’t like when you voice your opinion or ideas. There is no work/life balance. They add work to your job description without compensation and you never feel appreciated. Their tactic is to make you feel lucky to have a worthless job. Lack of good leadership is the reason for one of the highest turnover rates in the company. Don’t work here!!

Overall, I get paid well and Vermillion is ran well by the supervisors. Great benefits and knowledge acquired. Although, a lot of my fellow MHT's are ill-equip for this type of responsibility. As a healthcare worker/student, I was taught patient respect and respect amongst coworkers, but it's hard to find amongst the younger tech crowd. They need to choose techs more wisely and TRAIN MHT's better. Also, favoritism/popularity is regarded more highly than work ethic and credentials amongst some coworkers.

I would not recommend this company for a potential employee. The lack of consistency and overall compassion is not suitable for a behavioral hospital. It’s a very political environment based on who you know. Many good employees have been laid off or quit due to poor  management. A good employee doesn’t leave a company if they treat their employees right. They do not have a work life balance. Again I would not recommend this place for employment.

Horrible work environment. Extreme stress at all times. Corporate dictates your whole job, and has no idea how to actually run the hospital. Workers that are high up, that have been there for years get paid to make NO changes. Lot's of laziness. Pay was below average, and included multiple nights and weekends to satisfy workload. 5 CEO's and 8 CFO's in the 7 years I was there. You safety is not cared about, when it comes to some of the patients. Run don't walk. 

When I first started here it was to gain experience in the field I wanted to work in but soon after, everything changed. Management is toxic and I did not trust a single person there. I was so excited at first to have a mentor in my profession but I quickly learned how not to act as a professional. This is NOT a great place to work and will cause your mental health to spiral downwards.

Management does not care about patient or staff safety.

Toxic and unsafe

Trying to survive with your license intact.
