Typical day, seems no day is really topical.  Each day is new with it's own challenges.
 I check my work cell, computer and desk phone for messages.  Take residents to and from appointments.  Stock central supply for nursing.  Check inventory and order what's needed.  Keep close communication with residents (as appropriate)family, staff, and Doctors offices to make sure everyone is on the same page.  Keep dated notes of who I talk to and when I talked to them.  
Monthly I check the hoyer lift and sit-to -stand slings to make sure they're in good condition.
 Often the most challenging is coordinating transportation to and from appointments but I like that part.
What is enjoyable is the  detective work sometimes needed for certain supplies or information needed to get appointments set.  Also I get to meet some really neat people and get to know them a little better.

Although I play a small part in it, I have come to appreciate the importance of a budget as I order supplies and see how much is spent just on what I have to order.  I have a better idea of the pressure supervisors are under and it has taught me to have more compassion for them.
As a culture, most of us work hard together and support each other from resident care to support when there is a bad day.

Our typical days are scheduled as a 4- or 12- hour shift centered on resident care.  Teams are comprised of certified professions determined to achieve outstanding results based upon corporate leadership's mission, vision, values indoctrinated into each of its team members. 

Management is excellent, based upon the scheme devised by Vetter Health Services ensuring each manager is mentored by a more senior member of the corporate staff allowing each to seek assistance in troubling matters and learn methods to overcome difficulties using proven methods.

Co-workers are excellent, as well. Each having been selected by a process of interviews designed to promote the hiring of only those select few deemed trust-worthy, honest, responsible, and caring for those residents placed under our care.

The hardest part of the job entails long hours of work on our feet with only a short break sometime during the day.  The most enjoyable part of the position is the interaction with those for whom we provide care; and the affection we maintain with each as a special family member in our Vetter Health Services home.

First you sit in your car and dread going into the building. I learned that quality of life is impossible when they cut staff to save money. The management has no idea what it’s like to be on the floor, but still comes to your hall to tell you what your game plan should be about taking care of the residents you have built relationships and routines with. If you put up any resistance to management you are automatically the low man on the totem poll. You get written up for having too much fun at work, and you can also get written up for coming to work and not acting like you are enjoying yourself. The hardest part of my job was knowing that my residents were not receiving quality of life, but having to get what management wanted done when they wanted it done with one worker ratio to 18 residents sometimes. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to know such wonderful residents, and knowing that at least one person working there cared so much about them. 

So I love being able to be a server. It's a great job to have. However, with this company, management doesn't communicate well. I've sent messages asking for something to be addressed and they don't address it or do a follow up. The dietary supervisor doesn't communicate what he wants you to do. He just gives you a list and then gets mad when you don't do something right and doesn't explain what you did wrong. He put another dietary server over me as though she was in an upper management position just because I wasn't stocking sodas correctly and it was offensive and embarrassing. I eventually had to take pictures of everything I did to prove I was doing it, because his boss was also upset about my work. When I eventually found a better job to move on to, I explained to the residents that I was leaving so they weren't upset when I wasn't there anymore. Someone started a rumor that I was leaving because they didn't pay me enough here because I was a woman, and I never said that. They even brought me into the office to tell me to stop saying it because I had a few days left there. 

A typical day at work is very routine. You do the restocking, set up for the meal and start with the ADL's for your residents. I worked on the Memory Support side of this Nursing Home. I learned you have to be strong mentally. You have to have an understanding of what your residents are going through. You need patience, manners, and respect. There is also a certain way you need to speak and to be professional. The management does well at running this facility. They deal with matters in appropriate times. My coworkers are amazing at what they do. They are very helpful and understanding. There is a certain bond between all of us. I would have to say the best and worst part of my job go hand-in-hand. The best part of this job is getting to know and care for the residents, to be close to them, and in a way become a family. The worst part of this job would be loosing someone you have gotten so close to and cared for in a short amount of time. It is a very rewarding place of employment

My typical day was taking care of residents. This includes getting them to activities,making sure they were clean also helping some of them eat their meals and snacks. I learned patience as I worked for Alzheimer's patience exclusively.The management as The manor at Elfindale was never available to help or if they were available  they did not help the staff. I had amazing hard working co-workers that were always willing to help another CNA and were always very diligent in their tasks. The hardest part of my job was how some of the residents reacted in certain situations. Working with Alzhiemer's residents they can be unpredictable and sometimes abusive. The most enjoyable part of this job was getting to know the residents and hearing their stories about their jobs and marriages and the wars it was all very interseting and always a joy getting to know them. Some of them became like grandparents to the staff and it was just a joy being around them.

I really like working with the patients overall. There has to be organization and availability for work help especially when you are working the floor with a LPN or RN. The nurse is the supervisor directly unless there is a shift supervisor . The work overload has to be limited while working with one nurses aide on certain halls. My major issue here was safety. You have to be set up with immediate help in order to have the best safety for your residents and to carry out your 15 min checks while negotiating with a nurse who may or may not already have to document from a previous shift when you are coming on to work . He or she as a nurse may start their shift during the eve and cross over into the night shift and have to do charting from the previous shift which is conflicting when there is one nurses aide on a highly demanding floor with about 7 fifteen minute checks on clients along with not being able to leave most residents on the toilet during toileting. Safety should be number one without compromising in any way shape or form.

It's busy and can be fun if you make it fun! The Residents are nice and I enjoyed being in their day to day lives. Unfortunately, following an ineffective Charge Nurse on another shift changed it from having fun to fearing for my license due to lying or not knowing the true condition of the Residents at shift report. So, go for it f you are in to sitting at the desk all day with your clipboard, as you will not be written up, apparently, just given chances to improve!  It's very difficult to follow a nurse who has this work ethic.
Management plays favorites and the HR gal will cheerfully tell you she can easily replace you with a Travel Nurse. 
The MDS department is very nice and you will often see them picking up shifts, something you will not see from the MGMT or scheduler. 
 Maintenance is rude when you call them about plumbing issues or broken beds. They even told me to fix it myself a few times.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This company does not live up to their mission, vision, and values! Residents are not properly cared for. Applicants are hired by the director of nursing and the only requirement she has is that you can breathe. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The pay is below average.  Management is not involved in anything other than showing up for meetings and collecting paychecks.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Horrible! Due to the fact that anyone can get hired there is terrible employee conflict. Management does not want to deal with it so there is rarely any resolution. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Trying to resolve issues without any support from management. When attempting to resolve issues independently management will come in and undo or override any decision made by People Development Coordinator.

As float nurse, a typical day involves reorienting myself to each resident, often including new admissions.
While employed at Shady Oaks I received the opportunity to become a certified dementia practitioner.
Im a firm believer that change is more often for the better, with previous management experience I was able to assist a facility with only an interim DON for several months to become survey ready. I often met resistence with my ideas regaurding improved documentation and communication among nursing staff.
The hardest part of my job is the lack of communication. I am often unaware of extreme changes in residents conditions in report.
The most enjoyable part of any long term care job are the residents. I enjoy the opportunities I have to sit and talk with them, take them for walks around the enclosed outdoor area with gazebo and pond with coy fish.
