I worked for Vibra Hospital in Redding for the past three years; at least the last one and a half  years we were short staffed in our department. We had a really great team and we made do;  working doubles and many of our weekends  while being told somebody will be starting the following week ...when come to find out the three week wait between being hired and being able to start  ....with little to no contact from the human resources department  ....Who by the way can’t even give you a tentative wage offer in a timely fashion in order for  A potential candidate to make a choice of whether or not they want to pursue.....tends to force  them to take other jobs...Or just not respond once contacted.  

The HR department is incompetent  to say the least; They cannot keep a staff for starters so everything is behind constantly ... they consistently lose documents... you will get your TB test and they will lose the documentation  and tell you  months later ....when they’re reminded to make sure everyone’s up-to-date ....that you cannot work until you get another one ...sometimes causing an allergic reaction.  They will send the wrong paperwork  from another insurance company that they do not use with you to the doctors office if you get hurt on the job... and then blame you for not responding to the correct company in a timely fashion so then you will get denied  (for instance) physical therapy when needed; prolonging your injury until your time on light duty runs out and they can send you home until you’re healed or they fire you because you did not receive an extension for Workmen’s Comp. (this happened to a young lady that I worked with who should’ve been able to receive physical therapy for her shoulder Injury  instead she was completely railroaded ) Vibras HR department  proves to be completely disorganized;  once I witnessed a  long-term employee; we’re talking 15 to 20 years working there; told that they never went and took their drug test for pre-hire and needed to take it  .....later deciding it wasn’t necessary .... but just the fact that it was even an issue.   
The overall management is not the best; there’s obvious favoritism between departments, managers,  and the higher ups. Bottom line is if you really need a job they will take anyone with a pulse that can also pass a drug test ....and wait up to a month and a half to start a new position.  Oh and if you take any position there I highly suggest that any required documentation you  provide for them make copies... every flu shot ...every vaccine ...anything you get done for them get a copy.

Opportunity to work alongside a brilliant physiatrist specializing in brain injury patients, a team of providers who specialize in physical medicine and restorative care and a team whose approach to re-integration of its patients to the community is unparalleled to any other.  Have learned to care for burn patients, SCI and brain injury patients, patients with complex medical conditions (most incredible was caring for patients with Necrotizing fasciitis commonly known as flesh-eating disease or flesh-eating bacteria syndrome), utilizing the nursing process in acute emergent situations, rendering care for active duty soldiers (post traumatic injuries) and providing supportive care to families of our patients.  The best part of working at HRRH has been to actually see a patient come back restored, functioning in the community and thriving or seeing a child who was in nearly a vegetative state, talk, walk and smile.  The most rewarding experience was to have a young woman come out of her comma re-learn the most basic of functions, leave with her father in a wheel chair (after being bed bound for an extensive amount of time) and return ambulating with her toddler along side her walker, thanking the staff for (along with her father) not giving up and seeing beyond her actual condition and believing in her potential.  The hardest part of the job isn't providing good care, it is trying each day to impart to the staff that what "we do as a team" sometimes means doing more for less, maintaining morale up while (internally) realizing that at the end of the day "we are a business and it is about the dollars and not the people."  The human condition can be challenging in itself, having someone's life altered by an illness or injury can be humbling and thought-provoking.  We are tested daily and I challenged by many but without my staff's many talents, gifts and even some quirky personalities my job would not be as rewarding.

Upper management needs actual management skills. Agency contracts are promised no weekends, no cancellations, etc, when the same benefits aren't offered to staff. This results in PTO being used up to cover low census cancellations. Management purposely overstaffs to cover call offs, so you're never actually sure you're working until 2 hours before your shift. That interferes drastically with planning family events, child caregivers, and managing finances and is an abusive practice. The facility basically makes you on-call staff but they don't have to pay you on-call pay. The environment is punitive; they beg you through the door with a huge hiring bonus and then nitpick everything you do. Management has serious lack of management ability and gauges it's effectiveness on number of write ups rather than improved outcomes. Some charge nurses are better at managing people than upper management while some behave like "mean girls" to the point they would put a patient at risk to demoralize and dismiss an employee they don't particularly like. There's no policy on how assignments are to be distributed, and sometimes RNs carry a huge amount of the workload, while other times LPNs are assigned 5 more patients than RNs. Their attempt at team nursing is an excuse to cut staffing budget and nobody knows or cares to learn how to do it effectively. There are some really bright staff here, but unfortunately theyre suggestions aren't taken into consideration. Culture problems in a workplace always stem from poor management. Most shifts are dominated by agency staff because they have no interest in retaining employees, while management proudly announces they will be cutting all agency staff. Not smart considering the cost that goes into hiring and training. Shifts often operate with no assigned  charge nurse, which is a very dangerous practice. This place is in desperate need of someone who actually knows how to run a business. Employee retention should be the first measure of quality management...after all, people don't leave jobs, they leave managers.

Working as an HR Director at Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital has been a truly enriching experience.  A typical day involves orchestrating the HR functions that keep the hospital running smoothly while having the privilege to be an ambassador for patient care.

One of the most rewarding aspects is the interaction with patients.  Learning about their individual journeys and witnessing the impact of our team's efforts on their lives has deepened my appreciation for the importance of patient-centered care.  The ability to be a conduit between the administrative side of healthcare and the direct impact on patients has been both rewarding and challenging.

What sets this workplace apart is the genuine concern for employees demonstrated by management.  There's a palpable commitment to ensuring our team feels supported, valued, and motivated.  The emphasis on professional development has allowed me to continually enhance my skills and contribute more effectively to the hospital's mission.

The most challenging aspect of the role is navigating the complexities of healthcare regulations and ensuring that HR processes align seamlessly with the demands of patient care.  It requires a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Despite the challenges, the most enjoyable part of the job is witnessing the positive transformations in our patients' lives and being part of a compassionate team dedicated to excellence.  The collaborative spirit, coupled with the sense of purpose that comes with the sense of purpose that comes from contributing to the well-being of others, makes every challenge worthwhile.

During my time at Kentfield Hospital of SF, a lot of red flags became apparent from the beginning. The "training period" was barely 2 days of shadowing for my position and 1 half day of understanding how to barely navigate the hospital's EMR system. The pressure of self-navigating and being resourceful to figure things out yourself is high. There have been experiences of managers and supervisors expressing biases, expressing and projecting personal opinions and views that aren't appropriate in a professional working environment, and a lack of communication between team members and management. As a smaller LTAC hospital, resources can be seen as comparatively lacking such as a lack of a utilization management department, nursing shortages, more up to date EMR and referral systems, and timely granting of accessibility to various hospital programs and accounts (it took me almost two weeks to gain access to various programs). It is safe to mention that a consequence of the hospital having a high turn-over rate throughout most departments results in inconsistencies on task delegations such as which department is in charge of which responsibilities. There is a lot of overlapping in confusion in those situations. A lot of the nursing team members, therapists, and case managers that I personally worked with and got to know were some of the best people I have had the pleasure of working with and deserve much better than the uncomfortable and underappreciative work environment of this hospital. They were one of the few things I looked forward to when coming to work, apart from doing my part and helping the team and patients with getting the care they need.

I began working for Vibra Hospital of Charleston about a month ago, taking on the role of the nurse supervisor. They are currently undergoing a big change in their higher administrative team, but that has shown to make no difference on mg impression of the workplace. I have never felt so welcome by any facility I have ever worked at, I’ve worked at three different hospitals in the ICU, and an LTAC and this is my favorite place to work. 

The clinical staff is seemingly doing an overhaul of their employees as well, they are promoting a positive work environment and positive relationships among peers. I felt that energy immediately, and my energy follows direct suit with that being that I always try to have a positive day, and especially being positive and in good spirits around my patients because you never know what they are going through mentally and physically. Within the short month I’ve had with them, I intend to stay there far into the foreseeable future. They have that small hospital feel, so you can connect with even the CEO on a personal level which I think is amazing. It also allows me to feel like I can make a change at the hospital where it needs it. They promote feedback constantly from their employees on what can happen to make their job better, as well as facilitate a therapeutic environment for their patients, which most patients coming from long term ICU care are not always in the best spirits, I believe the staff does a great job at trying to enlighten their spirits with positivity and hard work.  

Let me start with my second day on the floor as a PCT. I was thinking of an excuse to come up with to get the heck out of there quick. Another pct asked me how my first day was with the pct that did most of the training, and I just lost it. Started crying, telling the charge, I don't think I can handle this, she told me to go take a break to calm down, so I did. Thanks to the nurse's that comforted me that day I continued to work there a year and four months. But let me tell you all about what I had to put up with. The day usually started out short staffed because of a call off, that happens everyday there. Working short staffed as a pct, you get sometimes 11, 12, 13 patients for your assignment. The patients at Vibra are very sick, meaning pretty much total care. There are some nurse's that are very lazy and will not help you. Some were very kind and helped. Then there is putting up the evil charge nurse, that zoned in on people she did not like,( alot of people), she did not like me from the beginning for a reason I don't know, she was very backstabbing and two faced, writes people up for no good reason. My 12 hour shift was non stop from 7a to 7p, of course I had breaks but to get every thing done, most of the time I just cut my break short. Then I had to work with the lazy people that got by with alot. Working two 12 hr. shifts were very,very hard. I left there physically,emotionally and mentally drained, like most of the employees working on the floor. My experience at Vibra was not a good one and I my spirit is broken, that I am making a career change. I do not want anything to do with healthcare. Healthcare is all about getting the patient discharged to get the bed filled with another admit for the money. Anyone looking for employment at Vibra needs to run the other way. Seriously.

It has been a year since Vibra Rehab has been operating and there has not been improvement. It has been a while since I've been there and I finally want to shed light on the work environment. First I will say that when I was there the culture was great, I was a new grad and everyone was helpful, there weren't these "cliques" that other work places have. I learned a lot from other nurses and used those skills in my current job. There has been many changes to management and the new CNO seems to be struggling with leadership as she has threatened nurses by saying "the rapture is coming" referencing that nurses would be fired, and has difficulty maintaining a good relationship with the doctors. Vibra is a 50 bed facility and at the time I was there they had 2 units open. They were struggling to keep census up, they couldn't manage and they finally closed down a unit and started canceling nurses. They were definitely overstaffed and for some reason they kept hiring new nurses. Next, the benefits are just bad. Even though Eisenhower owns half the facility, there aren't Eisenhower perks. A nurse told me they received a 1% raise after working a year only if the CNO approves it, no incentives or bonuses either. The operating system they use for orders, EMAR, labs, charting, is horrible. Seasoned nurses have problems with the system and nurses make mistakes daily because of this system and Vibra doesn't care to change it. I could go on and on, but  I'm only shedding light there are other issues deep within and I'm not there anymore so it's none of my business. With all that said, from one nurse to another who's considering this place, look somewhere else until this place has been running for 5 years. This place has potential but there are leadership and corporate issues that need to be resolved for it to stand out.

For the most part, the people on the floor are generally helpful with one another. Reviews from admin are consistently late and usually months behind schedule. Annual reviews almost seem manipulated on purpose to lap review periods if deciding to stay. Probably not the place you would want to invest a lot of time in if theres no return or gain. Bring in the new grads! Be careful and dont pigeonhole your pay brackets. Invest into a larger organization with more resources. Full staffing cycles are consumed regularly. Admins typically in these particular settings are generally not educationally qualified and is especially the case here. Seven (7) different DONs in 4 years, double standards, favoritism, unsafe staffing ratios with critical care requirements needing to be met. Following guidelines for EBP standards? Forget that here, lets flip beds. Waking up MDs regularly on RR and sometimes even for codes at night. Staffing convienently increased to appropiate levels right before State comes in to inspect. Flagged equipment purposely get recyled back onto the floors and left unrepaired. Admin states "Fixing equipment would cost money." Staff running into frequent issues with admins to include short term disability claim delays, issues with maturnity leave with multiple nurses, direct calls from CEO for persuasive measures to not collect or file formal legal complaints in certain situations.

A typical day at San Joaquin Valley Rehab is a busy one.  As an admissions associate, I have a lot of work to do, as I have the task of completing all admissions paperwork for the patients in the hospital.  I work quickly and efficiently to ensure that our hospital is in compliance with state and corporate standards.  I have organized a very specific system to increase productivity in my department and have achieved 100% compliance because of this fact.  

I am competent in and take HIPAA very seriously, as privacy should be priority.  Also, through my work experience, I have learned much about the ins and outs of different insurances - especially Medicare.  I take care to obtain accurate patient information and ask questions delicately and with great discretion.  

The team that I work with is one of the best in my work experience.  Everyone is very professional and kind and it is because we take our roles in the hospital so seriously that we have such a wonderful reputation in the valley.  

The hardest part of the job has to be seeing patients come back to our facility numerous times because of diminishing health and also administering customer service that is pleasant but sensitive the individual patients' needs.  

The best part of the job is seeing patients progress and eventually discharge, continuing with outpatient services to fine tune motor skills and speech skills.  Rehabilitation is almost like magic sometimes: a person who once had no hope of walking without the support of a walker will suddenly be walking faster than the therapists themselves!
