Vibrant has its pros which would seem great but, if you work overnights, you might not be able to reap the benefits from most of the pros. I have worked here for a few years overnight. I have seen a few changes that vibrant has gone through. Especially since the pandemic. The morning and day time staff usually has an easier time and may last longer in the agency because they are able to get the staff appreciation breakfast/dinners (pre covid). There are wellness events that seem really nice like a zoom Zumba class, pumpkin carving, random cooking classes by staff with diverse dishes. These are usually at around 12pm-3/4pm give or take. Most of the overnight is usually asleep around this time. Pre COVID the overnight was the only shift that was left with the leftovers that no one wants including crumbs and maybe a slice of ham that fell off someone's sandwich if we were lucky and a small handful of the weird looking crushed fruit that no one wants in murky fruit water. Delicious... The overnight staff still get treated like step children.. Maybe more like some poor orphans. 
Later on during covi,d overnight finally got a 10% differential and if you work around the late evenings, you get 5% and if you speak another language, 2%. This is all new. The overnight does not get any more help or benefits from working such hours. Switching shifts are impossible unless you go to the overnight or evening shift, which is usually always hiring. 
If you have a religion, state clearly when you need your days off to be so you can have that be( such as Sundays) your normal days off, otherwise be prepared a month or 2 in advance to request those days off, even if its a wedding or birthday party or vacation. Vibrant notices about 12 holidays and you HAVE to put in your request for it ASAP because you have to work 6 of those holidays and the later you wait, the les likely you get those days off. 
If you need any work place accommodations after you started working, then be prepared to wait a long time for changes to be effective. Its sad how much you have to advocate for yourself in a mental health agency. 
One of the main things I am happy about is how quickly they responded to getting those who are high risk from health issues remote first. Once the mayor gave notice of the shutdowns, my request for remote was responded to immediately and within a day or 2 I got my device. Normally in order to work remote pre covid, your QI scores from your interactions need to be consistently in the very good/exceptional range.
They do not fire you that quick here any they will try to work with you, however, since upper management, HR, ESPECIALLY operations take forever or ignore emails at times, you still end up feeling hopeless. 
More pay is nice for the overnight but, we need more support. We are even more isolated especially after COVID. We are going "crazy", we cannot help but callout due to burnout which cause burnout of staff who are working and its like an endless cycle.
Because its so hard to hire evening and overnight shift, they also just started giving employees $500 if they refer someone to vibrant that gets hired for certain positions. 
Not really a bad company if you work daytime but lack of support for overnight makes it horrible. This job is very taxing but I love the work I do, just sucks there is not much support for certain times of the day as well as everything else I mentioned. 

If you like to be babysat during your work day and chained to your computer, then this job is for you. If you like to have a healthy work/life balance and a work environment that is not contradictory to the "mission" of the company then go elsewhere. I had such high hopes for being able to help people in need but was disillusioned as time went on. I should have not ignored the signs of ineptness from the beginning. From being delayed in my hiring process because the recruiter "forgot to onboard" me correctly to being blatantly ignored by management in emails and direct messages, this experience has been most discouraging, to say the least. 

What is sad is that helping people in crisis is stressful enough and then the added stressor of poorly run management makes it harder. The irony. But in reality, the only real help is helping people get connected to emergency services like 911 or a mobile crisis team, which anyone can do and most of the job is collecting data. There is this thought that an "assessment" should only take a certain amount of time, but the reality is that when focused on a time restraint you lose focus on truly helping anyone. Then even when you alert in the interoffice platform of why you are running over the expected time, you still get direct messaged in the spirit of "Do you need help?", but really it's more like "Pick up the pace." The sad thing is, that the people we were trying to help realize they are not being truly helped. 

The best part about this company is the training, even with their oversights. However, it bodes well for them since there is a high turnover rate and they train new counselors about every 5 weeks. I have to say too that there is a fair amount of turnover in upper management since a lot of them are very new. They will say that it is because of growth even in the midst of losing funding. Perhaps those who left realized they could not hold to the stoic verbiage that was meant to keep anyone from any growth or making any changes that did not suit the company over the individual. You can't preach diversity without talking the walk. But that is the irony built into this company all around. They praise those with any yearly anniversary with a slide on the monthly meeting presentations slides. Whoo hoo! That says it all. 

I have worked in the peer support division of Vibrant Emotional Health for two years. I have absolutely loved my co-workers, my supervisor, and my managers. I work as a per-diem employee and feel I am adequately compensated for my work, have plenty of opportunities to take time off, and get great feedback and encouragement from the team.
As peer supporters we frequently have opportunities to sharpen our listening skills and learn about ways we can better serve our peer support community through monthly trainings and meet ups. I appreciate our supervisors recognizing our efforts and notifying the entire team when someone performs well. It is very supportive and encouraging! I also appreciate how well they take suggestions and concerns from employees. My mangers ensure I am heard and I really appreciate that. I am really thankful to be apart of the Online Peer Support Community of Vibrant. 
The most difficult part of this career for me is trying to advance my position within the company. I have applied to multiple jobs and followed the instructions for notifying the proper offices I am an internal applicant, but I often do not hear back unless I have applied to a position within my division or I send multiple emails to multiple people inquiring on the status of my application. It can be quite frustrating and yet I also feel this is a testament to how much I respect and appreciate this company. 
I have found that when I email outside of the Peer Support Community I will not always get a response. I have also noticed that changes (such as new regulations or expectations) move slowly within the company (I feel this is normal for most non-profits). 
I would encourage others to apply within Vibrant without hesitation, but I would go in knowing that changes within the company do move slowly and you might have to be more proactive in getting responses from other employees outside your division. 


Internally and externally, this organization finds itself in a state that necessitates a comprehensive transformation. This nonprofit entity appears to exhibit a marked lack of commitment toward the well-being of both its dedicated personnel and its valued clientele. Regrettably, the leadership landscape within the organization appears to be characterized by notable deficiencies in both competence and a constructive work environment.

Vibrant appears to operate without a robust framework of well-defined protocols, moral underpinnings, and guiding principles. This deficiency becomes especially evident in the flagrant strains placed upon the workforce, with employees being subjected to excessive workloads, remuneration that falls short of industry standards, and a palpable sense of burnout among executive personnel who, seemingly, regard the preservation of one's mental health as a peripheral concern at best.

It is crucial to emphasize the disconcerting practice of micromanagement that permeates this company's culture, a practice that has been met with widespread disapproval for its detrimental impact on the work environment. In light of these observations, one is inclined to offer an earnest caution: for individuals who hold dear the principles of human decency and harbor aspirations for both professional advancement and the preservation of their mental well-being, pursuing employment within this establishment is a course of action that should be approached with the utmost circumspection. This organization does not fully appreciate the worth of its employees, their broader career aspirations, or the profound importance of safeguarding their mental health.


A typical day at work is stressful with high call volume back to back. You wont even be able to get off on time most days so forget about having a work-life balance. The company and supervisors give little to no positive feedback and mainly focus on your mistakes. You could have saved 3 lives that day but if you had a typo in your call report, the typo is what is being highlighted and talked about. There is high turnover and low morale amongst all counselors so be prepared to be overworked. There is little to no company culture and you are treated like a machine. It's all about how much calls you can take and how fast you can do them. This company gaslights you and blames you for mistakes that are not your fault. It is very toxic and unhealthy for any professional. You do not get breaks or lunches on time and expected to accept calls up until the last minute of your shift literally. Say your shift ends at 5:00pm and you get a call at 4:59pm you have to take the call and stay until you finish that call and paperwork. It's ridiculous how they treat employees. Be prepared to have many emails unanswered by HR and management. They are very shady when it comes to pay and your time card will often have many mistakes so be sure to check that you are getting paid correctly. If you don't reach out the mistake will not be corrected and you'll be paid incorrectly. The most enjoyable part of the job is when I am actually able to help someone or save a life from suicide. 

The stress of working here does not equate to any benefit. From having to attend monthly meetings outside of your scheduled shift to being micromanaged every second while on shift it messes with your own mental health when ironically we’re supposed to be caring about the callers mental health and getting them the resources they need, the company could care less about the mental health of their employees. The pay is trash, the supervisors are not much help because they’re trying to save their own job so don’t expect support from them either. Upper management only cares about how many calls you can take a day despite the quality of the call or if we’re actually giving people the help they need. No wonder the funding was cut. It’s run like a sweat shop and the turnover is high because nobody can work under such stressful unrealistic standards. The only positive is being able to work from home but when I tell you, the environment vibrant provides you’d be the first volunteering to go into an office and that speaks volumes. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. 

Having QI listen to your calls and grade how you did when they’re not the ones actually taking crisis calls and helping these individuals is ridiculous. You’re never congratulated for literally talking someone off the ledge but they are quick to call you out on any little inconvenience. 

You will not have holidays off and you will not be compensated correctly for “holiday pay” 

The simple fact that people pick up extra shifts outside of their shift shows the pay is next to nothing. It’s truly sad. 

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. This supposed crisis hotline operates more like a call center focused on sales rather than helping people in need. Calls are strictly limited to 20 minutes, with no tolerance for going even a few seconds over. Supervisors monitor and enforce these time limits ruthlessly, undermining the notion of genuine care. The company's rigid staging format and high turnover rate reflect its lack of commitment to supporting individuals in crisis. The only positive aspect is the remote work option, but it hardly compensates for the overall shortcomings. Look elsewhere for a more fulfilling opportunity to make a difference. he strict time constraints imposed on each call are appalling. We were granted a mere 20 minutes per call, and any second spent beyond that limit resulted in immediate consequences. A message would abruptly inform us that we had exceeded the allotted time, leaving no room for empathy or understanding toward the callers. It is alarming to witness a company prioritize such rigid rules over providing adequate support. The term "self-care" used by Vibrant, the company in question, is an absolute mockery. If you happen to exceed the allocated time by a mere 5 seconds, a supervisor would hastily notify you, making it clear that the primary concern lies in adhering to protocols 

You would think a job that has you dealing with mental health crisis’ would care about your mental health. For a job that has you talking to the people on the verge of a mental health crisis the operations team is not at all supportive. My direct manager was really nice. But the operations team would yell at you for taking breaks when you need. Sometimes when I felt I couldn’t talk to a caller with a clear mindset. I took about 2 mins extra for break to clear my head. Operations team would get mad at you for being anything more than 30 seconds late coming back from break as if the callers weren’t a lot too handle. Pay was decent but wasn’t worth the extra mental health stress to me. I ended up getting depressed while working at this job. Operations didn’t care about that though. Only about getting back on the lines on time. Calls can be tough as well. Few wildly inappropriate callers can ruin your whole day. People will take advantage of you on the lines if you are a woman. Probably not a good job if you’re a survivor of SA and don’t have a lot of support. Please if you apply here take your days off to prioritize self care and have a strong support team. Don’t expect it from operations. Make friends with people in your training cohort so you can have people who understand exactly what you’re going through. Take as much support as you can. Work you managers and go to all the paid trainings you can. 

Working as a crisis counselor in a remote position had its challenges. Unfortunately, the lack of flexibility, call center-like services, micromanagement, and a stressful work environment made it difficult to find satisfaction in this role. The lack of flexibility was a major drawback. The rigid schedules didn't allow for personal needs or work-life balance, leading to added stress and dissatisfaction.The approach to counseling felt more like a call center, prioritizing high volume over personalized care. This left me feeling like just another cog in the machine, unable to provide the support individuals in crisis truly needed. Micromanagement was stifling, with constant call monitoring, scripted responses, and detailed reporting requirements. This lack of trust limited creativity and personalized approaches, further eroding job satisfaction.
The overall management style added stress to an already demanding job. Lack of support systems and limited involvement in decision-making contributed to high levels of burnout.
In conclusion, remote crisis counseling lacked flexibility and resembled a call center. Micromanagement and a stressful environment made it challenging to find fulfillment. Consider alternatives if you value flexibility, autonomy, and a compassionate approach to counseling.





My main problem with this company is that they do not care about their employees or their customers. They want you to take calls nonstop without a break in between, and they don't give you time to think over the call when you're doing the call report. They RUSH you off the phone with people who just want to talk their feelings out because the only thing vibrant cares about are their numbers, the more calls the better, doesn't matter if you helped the person or not, just hurry up and move on the the next caller. They made us have to warn inappropriate callers who just call to listen to a woman's voice while they relieve themselves-- we should not have to ask them 3 times to stop before we can hang up. It happened to me 3 times it was disgusting. The supervisors are SO rude and are not understanding at all. They are there support us but its uncomfortable to go to them for anything. When you need to take off someone from your department has to cover you. If you cant find someone to swap shifts with you cant take off. The administration are completely unresponsive. They just don't care for the counsellors AT ALL. But then they force you to attend wellness meetings (that aren't during your shift) that are a complete waste of time. Its just a terrible place to work.
