In the past month this company has cut the commission structure for RTs and also has taken away the fleet card that payed for gas, car repairs/maintenance.  We are now making less money and are no longer getting fuel and maintenance costs covered for using our own vehicles to see patients. Fleet card covered gas and repairs and now we are being reimbursed by the mile and no maintenance coverage on our personal vehicles.  RTs drive anywhere from 1000-2000 miles a month and sometimes more.  The company has also announced that we will be expected to take a higher patient load.  The current load is already heavy.  RTs are paid a salary and if you work overtime there is no time and a half pay-it is half time.  Yes-you are paid half your hourly rate for any time going over 40 hours a week.  Also, our health insurance benefits were cut and are costing employees more.  More work and less pay along with cutting benefits.  As the company grows and becomes more profitable employee benefits are cut.  Management spins it but that is the truth. Viemed seems to care less and less about the employees. All the RTs are over worked so there is not a good support system in place if you need help with your patients.  New orders come out late in the day because intake is so slow. RTs are out late at night completing new orders and now that wear and tear on your car is your own expense.  So overtime work is mandatory not optional as in the hospital. You never know if you have to work late or not as new orders come out as late as 7pm because that is how late intake works. So you are pretty much always on call and have to work late at the drop of a hat. It used to be a great job with good benefits but now commissions, insurance, phantom shares  and car expenses are cut makes you wonder what is next?  Viemed puts up a good act that they care about their employees but be aware the culture is changing and it’s all about “what is best for Viemed” as quoted from management  . I’m sure management’s salaries weren’t cut just the RTs.  Be ready to work for no overtime pay, be on call to answer your phone 24/7 and work late when there is a new patient to set up driving an hour or two to do so and now with no roadside assistance benefit and being paid a “fluctuating” amount for mileage instead of having a fleet card to fill up your vehicle. 
The promise of the bi annual bonus is non existent as the company has not met the mark to give the bonus. We used to have phantom stock but that was also eliminated as well this month. Smoke and Mirrors smoke and mirrors 

I never considered working home health before joining the team at VieMed.  Honestly, I do not see myself ever returning to the acute care hospital job market.

I really enjoy working for VieMed!  I have been with the company since July 2018.  You really do impact the lives of your patient with chronic respiratory failure.  Before home Trilogy therapy, COPD patients felt that they were just married to their mini-neb treatments and supplemental oxygen.  Past that, they needed to go to the ER.  Well, NOT ANYMORE!
  
Here at VieMed,  we work one-on-one,  in home with patients and their family members on how to combat their disease process by giving them education and training on using a home Trilogy  to provide ventilatory support.

I feel like I have impacted many of my patient's lives for the better.  You see the patient in their home and they can call you directly anytime they have questions.  Some patients basically become extended family members and look forward to you visitng or calling them for follow-ups.

You make your own schedule of when you see your patients.  I work in an area where there are multiple therapists and we work together to help each other out.  The communication involved with our team is outstanding and we help each other when we have questions about home trilogy or respiratory care, in genreal.

I am a very motiviated  and a goal oriented therapist when it comes to delivering care to my patients.  Patient care load is managable and more therapists are added to the markets based on patient growth.  Whenever I have questions that need to be directed to other members,  they are easily approachable.  I would highly recommend joining VieMed if you are a self-motivator and want to deliver high quality home patient care!

Pay is salary based and also has other incentives.  If you are looking for a change of pace, rather than the typical hospital setting, then I suggest you look into joing a great organization with excellent team work!

Working at Viemed was a mixed bag. I appreciated the remote work and for the most part being able to set my own schedule. If I were the parent of a school aged child or a caregiver, this position would be perfect because it does have periods of down time.  The management is supportive and encouraging. Even though I was out there working on my own, I never felt alone. There was always a Level II RT or manager who was available for a phone call or to hop on teams and walk me through a process. It is a good work culture. They don’t pay out PTO at the end of employment unless its state mandated, and that was a definite disappointment, but otherwise, the company itself is good. 

The negatives: driving excessive miles and on-call requirements. It was not uncommon for me to drive 100+ miles each direction to see a single patient for a short process. A gas card is provided, and they give a set amount for vehicle compensation, but it doesn’t cover wear and tear on your personal vehicle, not when you’re driving for hours at a time several times a month. And they do not take into consideration the amount you are driving. A person who may drive max 45 miles to a patient receives the same amount of compensation as a person who can drive 100+ miles to a patient. 

 I was on-call all but 72 hours out of the month. Even though calls rarely came in, mentally having to be available at all hours was tiring. 

This job is not for everyone. But if you are flexible, don’t mind being on the road an excessive amount of time, and don’t mind tasks that show up unexpectedly and need to be completed quickly, it can be a good fit.



While this role had potential, the expectations and work environment made it unsustainable. Employees are effectively expected to be on call 24/7, including responding to patient calls, last-minute setups, and urgent requests regardless of time of day, distance, or personal obligations. There is little to no work-life balance, and boundaries are not respected.

The patient load is excessive, and employees are routinely expected to perform the work of multiple roles simultaneously, including insurance reauthorizations, coordination with physician offices, patient compliance management, and extensive documentation. When patients are non-compliant, responsibility is placed entirely on the employee despite documented efforts and circumstances beyond their control.

Management practices are heavily micromanaged and often degrading rather than supportive. Charting is frequently audited with an emphasis on minor, inconsequential errors rather than overall quality of care, creating a high-stress and punitive environment.

Compensation does not reflect the workload, responsibilities, or expectations. Employees are required to use their personal vehicles extensively—often exceeding 2,000 miles per month—yet mileage reimbursement does not adequately cover fuel, maintenance, depreciation, or wear and tear. Overall, employees are underpaid, overworked, and rarely recognized for their efforts.

This position may be challenging for anyone seeking a healthy work-life balance, fair compensation, or a supportive management structure.


As an RT you will be stressed out and underpaid.  Always getting calls to go here and there all day when you have already planned a day seeing patients. So you are constantly chasing your tail and re-organizing.  Company expects you to always answer your phone 24/7 and work for no overtime pay.  Zero respect for the RT-stuff runs down hill and lands on your lap.  Billing messed up-call the pt because they won’t.  Pt needs reauth md appt-get it scheduled. Always more and and more on your plate without any help from manager.  Managers and supervisors are all chosen by favoritism and who kisses butt-not the RT who has been there longer and has good record-somebody’s sister or person they worked with at a previous job.  No raises at annual review even with the ever present inflation/economy. Dump too much work on your lap and watch you swim upstream to complete it all.   Company executives renting out entire floors of luxury hotels and taking sales to Key West for a week while RT can’t get a raise and commissions are cut in half.  Patient care is not an issue with corporate, equipment is picked up from patient homes because the company doesn’t get the auth completed on time. Viemed used to be a good place to work and cared about the patients and now it has grown to being a large company that only cares about money.  Too bad they won’t give a raise annually and share some of the millions in profit with the people who work there.  No raises and no overtime and too much work on your plate.  

 In general, Viemed is a fantastic company. The oxygen department however? No. It's a "boys club".  The director of the oxygen department and the manager both gave me corrective action. On the wrong account. That's pretty embarrassing. I was most definitely wrong and I owned it. I would have signed the corrective action paperwork. It was wrong 2 times. I refused to sign because the paperwork was incorrect not 1 time. But 2. At that point I requested mediation from HR and the Oxygen departments manager. The Oxygen management team agreed to get HR involved. I received a call on Monday 06/10/2024 from HR and the oxygen management team and I was terminated.  Take it for what you will. I'll be called a "disgruntled former employee. I am sad. I miss my patients. I miss Viemed as a company. The oxygen management team. I do not.  most amazing part of my job was the everyday interactions with my patients. Making sure they are comfortable and heard was my motto towards all patients I interacted with. 
Hardest part was dealing with the management in the oxygen department. The only time you hear from them is when you're doing something incorrect. Maybe I like a more hands on manager. Someone willing to "get in the trenches" with me. The oxygen management demolishes what could be an amazing culture at a great company. It's a shame. 

Working at Viemed was literally a breath of fresh air. I had been out of the job market for over a year and I was nervous as to how quickly I would pick back back up on it IF I was selected. They took a chance on me not based solely on my gap in employment, but rather faith in my 20 years of of precious experience combined with my comfort level when speaking on the subject during my interview. I truly loved working there. I intentionally took on a role I was over qualified for and I learned that is not necessarily  the best approach. I was quickly finding things I believed needed improvement and because I tend to lack skills in the area of office politics, I quickly discovered that Viemed very much protects thier employees and places value on tenure in terms of growth opportunity. Remaining humble in your respective role and respecting the chain of command and process is important. On the same note, I would encourage Viemed to allow for more collaboration and encourage it amongst all ranking team members, not solely based on rank and tenure. Also, recognize that position placement can and should be looked dtcit and changed up if it doesn’t seem to be quite the right fit. Play to strengths and always be open and transparent. 

I stopped working for them a few months ago. Management would tell you what you want to hear, but would never do anything. RTs need to be 24/7 available and answer phone calls from both patients and sales guys. 
You would be paid a basic salary and 2 types of commission: one based on how many setups you had in the previous month and one based on how many active billing and compliant patients you have. Most of the time sales don't do their job in terms of reauth, company doesn't get the money from the insurance, which means a lower commission for you as you would have less active patients. The problem comes when you are asked to go and serve this patients, but you are not paid for this services. More work, less money, and just because a different department is not doing its job right.
Sales are greedy, they care only about their setup  huuuuge commissions, never thinking  about how the RT feels when he has to go and have a setup done at 10PM, an hour away, in a sketchy area.  I don't think it's normal to go to work and carry a gun with me.
HR never provides any help. They would refer you to the handbook and that's it. Upper management does not listen to its employees' complaints, while direct manager would keep saying things will get better. They actually never do.
I am glad I left the company, its practice does definitely not resonating with my beliefs and with the proper way a patient should be approached and taken care of!

Live your life, that is the Viemed motto. Our team is rock stars. A typical day in intake is reviewing medical records for medical necessity. Verifying insurance and submitting auth on DME equipment. We get two fifteen minute breaks a day and a hour lunch. I learn something new everyday and our management team does a great job of sharing information to the whole team. if you work with insurance you know things change every day. Viemed is family orientated. Your family life matters. The intake manager and supervisors allow us to work in office or home if we need. They allows us to make up our hours if we need to so we don't lose our PTO or go unpaid when kids or sick or if we have appointments. they also allows us to come in to work earlier shifts or come in late to work later shifts if we need. They do not ask us to do anything they wouldn't do. They are also fast to jump in and help us if and when needed. I really like the fact that they promote from within almost always. One of the hardest parts of the job is having to say no to a referral due to insurance reasons etc. The most enjoyable part of the job is our team. We have an amazing team here. we spend more time with our coworkers then we do with our family and it is nice that we all get along and work well together. 

I had high hopes for working for this company but the pay is not competitive however you get extra for setups and compliance of your NIV patients. The clinical manager was sadly unprofessional and an incompetent leader and treated the clinical staff like children. You have to keep ridiculous amounts of inventory because the company won't ship to patients and the system for documentation is convoluted and wastes an inordinate amount of time. This company makes the outward appearance of being a patient focused one but in reality it is sadly like most other DME companies and their primary goal is to bill insurance companies as much as possible. They have to have a clinical staff but don't really value the therapists like they should. You are expected to drive your own vehicle and if you're on call could mean a very long trip and while they provide a gas card have cut back on what they cover as far as wear and tear on your vehicle. They did not provide a company phone either and months after I left their employ am still getting calls from patients.

What first appeared as a great opportunity was soon fraught with so many red flags and issues that were never addressed. Think long and hard before deciding on working for this company.
