Employees are overworked, underappreciated, and underpaid. Staffing shortages are a daily occurence. The HR director consistently makes mistakes resulting in pay irregularities. I believe senior management is well meaning ( I think the DON and especially the ADON are great nurses ! ), but, without an earnest attempt to better staff the facility and better compensate the employee's I cannot see any improvement coming in the foreseeable future. Nurses will be mandated. At times, you will feel you are without support. This is not a work environment conducive to brand new nurses looking for nursing mentorship or additional training. You will not be taken under anyone's wing. You will be kicked of the perch, quickly and you will be expected to soar. Opportunities for advancement may present themselves, primarily because the turnover rate is abysmal. This snowballs into issues with staff retention, at this point they cannot even afford to get rid of poorly performing staff members because they cannot afford to lose the few staff members retained. The tools to turn this facility around are at the hands of upper management, the back breaking work of actually making the work culture B.E.T.T.E.R for residents and staff will be the test. Understandably, the pandemic has compounded the problems LTC facilities face; from patient care to PPE,  but at what point will the people (resident's and staff members) trump the bottom dollar. There is no incentive to remain on staff. The facility is mostly staffed by agency employees who are making almost double what the in house staff makes. You will get moved from you're regular set of patients to accommodate agency staff. Lastly, I think it is important to mention that you will be issued one N95 mask a week, there are no bleach wipes available, and vital medical equipment will be missing and you may need to bring your own supplies to obtain vital signs to safely do your job.

Staffing issues and poor culture. Upper management would assign audits and then someone different would come along and change the forms, as unit managers we counted 16 audit forms at the end of a 3 week span. (Reverse) racism is an issue. Quality & safety are sacrificed for "body count". Went in at 3am one morning and found staff sleeping; had several resident complaints about not being turned/dried for an entire night shift. Nurses bullied by CNAs & other general staff; should have been an immediate cardinal rule violation, but the issue not corrected. Poor implementation in the "culture change", spent 4-6 hours in "meetings" and unable to complete work, then told not to leave until paperwork completed; worked 10-12 hour days every weekday and then called in on weekends bc nursing staff short. Some excellent CNAs, but staffing is poorly assigned and staff is not properly trained. Told "welcome to Father Murray, you're in the inner-city/ghetto" when searching for basic supplies (such as insulin syringes). Spoke with DON about standard floor nursing practices and her response was "well we have to assume none of them went to nursing school" WHAT?! We all went to school, took our boards, should be familiar with the Nurse Practice Act, and are responsible for our own licenses. Good new hires run off by status quo; have to weed out the poor performers before canceling Agency staff for the sake of cost cutting; but that's not how it was executed. Residents/patients allowed to be abusive towards staff and expose staff to communicable diseases and safety hazards bc the Administrator would state that she was accustomed to this type of behavior bc "(she) come from rough people". Just bc someone can achieve an MBA does not mean that they're a professional.

the hardest lesson to take is that you cannot dress up a pig and call it a silk purse. Villa is all flash no substance, one of the biggest issues is the managers who came from other corporations that they helped ruin and try to hire all their friends and promote them. The patients are suffering as the managers sit in meetings and discussions and extra nonsense. They came to our facility and eliminated all managers all the ones that did not have union to grieve.  They said that they wasn't but they did.  All these managers and no staff on the floor. As you can see they need leaders in all their facilities, because the turn over  is like a pancake house.... always flipping.
Stay away from Villa, they are an old company with a new name. They just keep wasting folks money and time..
They need a Que Tam against them and all the corporate need to be in jail especially the one who stole from the patients to the tune of 80 million dollars, they made him the leader of the mess. Everything is public record that's why you cannot call them or find out anything about them.  
If you looking for a career or just a job... look somewhere else.

During my tenure, the facility consistently operated with insufficient staffing levels. Rather than addressing the root causes of high employee turnover, management prioritized recruitment over retention. Corporate leadership continued to support ineffective policies that fostered favoritism and created a divisive work environment. The overtime allocation process lacked transparency, being solely based on management discretion.

The workplace culture suffered due to inconsistent enforcement of standards, with certain employees receiving preferential treatment despite providing substandard patient care. My greatest challenge was maintaining high care standards among support staff, as some supervisors would undermine these efforts. To improve employee morale and overall operations, the facility would benefit from a comprehensive management restructuring and the implementation of more equitable policies that eliminate preferential treatment.

Working here was a terrible experience.  My initial impression was that the place would run more smoothly when the DON and administrator were replaced.  I stuck it out for a long time with that thought.  Staffing shortages are insane, even by healthcare standards.  Because of this, ancillary staff is frequently pulled from their jobs in order to other people's jobs.  It makes it impossible to get any of your own work done.  
Residents are treated extremely poorly. 
Recently, a VP visited the facility.  She too gave excuses for poor management and held no one accountable.  I realized it no longer mattered who the DON and administrator were because the corporation in itself does not take responsibility for the negative things happening in that building.  When the state gives you 35 tags, it is not because they haven't been in for 2 years or because of Covid.  It is because the facility is horrible and no one in a position to help is willing to do so.

Villa spends a lot of time and energy  around slogan of Making People Better- which is true if you have connections. It’s all about who you know. They consistently sell a message that is not followed through. Since Villa came to a Minnesota we have been forced to reduce staff. We have lost clinical support, regional support, building positions have been eliminated. When Villa took over my center in 2017 we had as many as 20 additional staff that what we have now. They have made constant reductions and cost reductions. I’m all for a business making money been when you reduce building departments to one person and continue to drive and demand results outcomes suffer. Ideas are not encourage unless you are connected to a senior leader. Good people constantly go. Each week a new memo comes out about a “Departing Employee Announcement” No communication. Don’t believe everything you see. It’s a lot of fake promises.

The residents and some off the staff are ok



What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Hoyer and stand up lifts not working properly and other staff do not charge up the few batteries we do have. Short staffed all the time, one minute we can pick up overtime and the next minute we are not allowed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Awful upper management has their click and if you’re not in it just leave. Upper management talks about your personal business to other staff. They makes impulsive decisions and they never back up the decision. They only care when State shows up

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and never get time for your breaks, heavy loads and they accept anyone as residents. You have residents that are one on one and you have to babysit them and manage to get all your work done. This place is known as the psych word

They have recently replaced nearly every Administrator in the Detroit metro area. It appears that the ones they have hired do not know how to manage a nursing home and are merely filling a role.  Communication is very poor.  Laws and regulations are often ignored and procedures only change after the home is cited on a survey or complaint survey.  The culture there is "every man for herself".  Most people only lift a finger when it is to point the finger of blame. The two women in the social work department are very lazy and very rude.  They run off the other social workers in their department so they may claim to be "shorthanded" or can just blame the social workers that have left. Recently the company fired the gardener after 40 plus years on the job so the facility could save money.  The gardens around the building were the only attractive part of the facility.  Save yourself-do not work for this place!

They overwork all of there employees, management doesn’t care about your mental or physical health. Employees don’t have the ability to care anymore as they are burnt out and overworked. Always understaffed and scheduling was horrible with positions and days left open. The shift pickup bonus went out the window when COVID hit. Most of the CNAs just don’t care because they don’t have the staff or the equipment to take care of the residents properly, and they’re exhausted and overworked. I felt ill and had a mental breakdown because they still wouldn’t let me go home, so I left because my replacement had arrived and I had finished my scheduled shift. 

Not a good organization to work for at all. Sub-standard management in most of the departments, no continuity, very poor communication on management levels with employees. They state there are opportunities to advance in the company which rarely happens. Most times the facility is working short staffed, which results in excessive call offs on a regular basis. The moral of the staff is low due to poor treatment by management. Management has no concern with critical issues that directly impacts staff in a negative manner, the primary concern of management is to have bodies to work. Management does not value their employees at all. This is a revolving door facility, The turnover in staff is very high. No raises! Policy and procudures are not followed most times by management either.
