I worked as a Case Manager at Villagecare for over three years, and while I gained valuable experience, I ultimately had to leave due to burnout and a concerning work environment. During my time at Villagecare, I was responsible for managing a caseload of over 170 members. Each day felt like a battle, with constant pressure to prioritize tasks without regard for quality work. The company's focus seemed solely on quantity and securing funds, disregarding the needs and well-being of both employees and clients. One of the most concerning aspects of my experience was the pervasive favoritism among nurses and upper management. Additionally, some supervisors exhibited a pattern of micromanagement and belittlement. They undermined my work, credentials, and contributions, creating a toxic and demoralizing atmosphere. Unfortunately, there was a palpable fear among employees to speak up or challenge the status quo.

While Villagecare prides itself on being a 5-star managed long-term care provider, the reality is far from it. Quality work took a backseat to meeting quotas and maintaining appearances. Employees were treated as disposable assets rather than valued members of the team.

My advice to anyone considering employment at Villagecare is to view it as a stepping stone for gaining experience, but be prepared to move on to a healthier work environment after a year. Despite its reputation, the company's culture and practices ultimately prioritize quantity over quality, leaving little room for personal and professional growth.

While the position itself isn’t difficult once you get the hang of it, getting to that point is a challenge due to the lack of structured training. You're expected to perform flawlessly with little to no guidance, and mistakes are treated like personal failures instead of opportunities to improve. The onboarding process is disorganized and inconsistent , especially from the HR side  and communication from supervisors is often unclear or contradictory. There’s a heavy culture of micromanagement, with constant check-ins, unrealistic expectations, and pressure over minor tasks. It’s difficult to feel trusted or empowered in your role when everything you do is scrutinized down to the minute. The environment feels reactive instead of proactive  everything is urgent, and it’s rarely clear why.
On the plus side, the pay is competitive, and being able to work from home offers a level of flexibility. But if you’re looking for a healthy work culture, clear expectations, or supportive management, you may want to look elsewhere.

PLEASE  do not work here. The company is EXTREMELY unorganized. Management is terrible. They hire you for one job and will assign you to completely different departments depending on where they are short staffed. They DO NOT train you properly and if you make a mistake you get in trouble. The pay does not match the work requirement. I was told by leadership when I was hired not to be upset with where they put me which should’ve been a red flag.   unprofessional management.  Job is similar to a revolving door. Staff would work through their lunch breaks to try and meet requirements because they were so stressed out. Company will load extra work on top of work however, would not offer over time. I worked here for a short time and have witness multiple people leave. 

My typical day at work consist of patient admissions. I work so hard, not taking lunch break, or eating my lunch while working at the same time, which usually happens in a normal day.  I am willing to do that because I had an excellent administrator whom I trust and help, teach, supervise, fair and encourage his employees. We function without a director for some time and yet we function well.  

Then comes somebody who bring in her colleagues from somewhere and one by one put into them position even without qualifications.  The whole dept  loses money and eventually most of us left with our best administrator.  Yet the top management is blind to what is happening bec they are their same people and friends who belong in their group.

A very sad experience that discrimination and unfairness still exist,  is true and is happening everywhere.

The model for this agency is numbers and the number game keeps increasing every month with same pay and pressure do get the numbers at any cost. Every month your caseload increases in the middle of the month due to transfers of people leaving the agency. Transfers from other teams are a disaster and you are expected to do the work others didn't. Pressure to make the numbers at any cost.
Management is inept, laking the skills to guide others. No one is in charge of making decisions. "Leads" are like the blind leading the blind. Supervisors are mere foremen. Supervisors crack the whip on the case managers to get the numbers and request reports with less that 24 hours to produce them.

A typical day at VillageCare is overwhelming and stressful due to chronic understaffing and unrealistic workloads. Management is disorganized, unresponsive, and often dismissive of staff concerns. The workplace culture is toxic—marked by micromanagement, lack of support, and in some cases, bullying or harassment. While the benefits package is decent, there's little to no job security. Constant turnover, unclear expectations, and a culture of fear make it hard to feel valued. The hardest part of the job is navigating the chaos and lack of respect. The most enjoyable part is helping clients, but even that is overshadowed by poor leadership.

This place was a revolving door for the short period that I worked at VillageCare. Leaderships priority is focused on patient care, not the employees. Specifically, I worked in HR and there was no consistent process for anything. The teams are not set up for success and spend most of their time back-filling positions they just filled. Although the organization has seen growth, they fail to apply transparency and organization to their day to day administration and lose a lot of qualified candidates.  Unless you desperate for a job or need some experience, VillageCare is not a stepping stone; its more like a  pot hole that will lead residual damage. There is not positive take away from the work you do at this organization.

Stay clear, they must be desperate now and probably need to pay more to get no experience nurses. Nurses don’t last more than a month. They re losing a lot of $$ training nurses who re not staying. This itself speaks about their management in the utilization management side. The Care managers seem to be fairly steady. You have drill sergeants running the show. Here is a very simple rule, if management is rude to their nurses, the nurses don’t have to take it and will leave!! Change your management style and listen to the voices of employees!

Village Care is a numbers game. They are data driven. Data driven=looking at people as numbers not humans. Your KPI score means more than your customer service skills. HOW many calls you take matters more than the quality of each call. Don’t ask too many questions or you become problematic.  The Managers are AWFUL. They are the pitbulls of the Company. No positive reinforcement . Just scoldings. I was sad to get laid off because the only thing I miss is the paycheck. I feel sorry for the Members. They don’t know how terrible their benefits are. I would NOT recommend VCM to ANYONE.  

Just don't waste your time. If you are looking for growth and  opportunity this is not the place. It's stagnant. All the qualified management has resigned leaving unqualified people to run whats left of the programs into the ground. Worst of all clients are unhappy with the service they receive. There no point to this agency especially since the bosses don't seem to even care to try to fix things. lastly the turnover rate is ridiculously high so if you take a job here make sure it's you have a plan B because there's no security benefits long term.
