What is the best part of working at the company?
As a Prevention Specialist at Vivent Health in Kenosha, I valued the mission but experienced ongoing challenges within team dynamics.

There were instances where nursing interactions with clients did not feel aligned with a respectful, person-centered approach. This, along with difficulties in case management collaboration and a lack of consistent respect for PSR boundaries, created a strained work environment.

Greater emphasis on accountability, role clarity, and respectful communication—both internally and with clients—would significantly improve staff experience and quality of care.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part was navigating inconsistent team dynamics, particularly with nursing communication and lack of respect for PSR boundaries, which made collaboration more difficult than necessary.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is centered around meaningful work, but team dynamics can be challenging. Communication and collaboration were not always consistent, particularly across departments, and PSR boundaries were not always respected. This contributed to a work environment that could feel tense at times.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involved working directly with clients, providing prevention support, coordinating with case management, and navigating interdisciplinary communication. While the work itself was meaningful, much of the day also required managing inconsistent communication across teams and advocating for clear role boundaries.

Overall, my six years at Vivent were a valuable and rewarding experience. I appreciated the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways, especially during critical periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic, where I single-handedly managed weekly Food Pantry deliveries across two counties. I also served as the sole staff member in a clinic for five months and acted as the primary contact for various operational and facility matters all while completing and maintaining my primary duties as a Case Manager. 

However, it became increasingly clear that there were limited opportunities for professional growth and advancement. When I applied for a supervisor position, I was given two reasons for not being selected: first, that I was not ready for a supervisory role, and second, that my current clinic could not afford to lose me. While the first reason would have been understandable with a clear development plan in place, which unfortunately never materialized. The second reason was disheartening. Retaining an employee in their current role at the expense of their growth sends a discouraging message about how the organization supports internal advancement.

Despite my consistent dedication and reliability, I felt that my potential was overlooked. I was trusted with significant responsibilities but not considered for leadership or offered support to prepare for it. That experience left me feeling undervalued and ultimately influenced my decision to seek new opportunities where professional development is prioritized.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Human Resources uses a service that is awful. They screwed up every hiring and onboarding process I submitted as manager. They gave misinformation to job candidates who got frustrated and withdrew. They got salaries and job descriptions wrong every time I submitted one. They hired people my department voted down. They contradicted themselves and their own policies frequently. They basically botched every hire and this lead to a very high turnover rate.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful, dangerous, chaotic. President and Vice President are clueless. Time and resources (federal tax dollars) wasted on stupid stuff like scavenger hunts, food competitions, Christmas parties to boost morale….which was low because of the low wages and the administration refusing to follow their own compensation guidelines. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Getting shouted at by Angry clients who receive poor service and confusing and contradictory information from case workers and intake personnel. Stupid emails from management about “cascading communications”; way too many meetings that accomplish nothing. Lots of mediocre people running around avoiding real work.

I loved the work and clients, but especially since re-branding, Vivent Health has seen some discouraging growing pains. The once community-like atmosphere has turned corporate. Clients have less input and opportunities for engagement. Upper management seems oblivious to the actual needs and concerns of frontline staff. They are more concerned with growing exponentially than retaining employees. The organizational structure of the company is such that it is difficult to speak with anybody outside of your direct supervisor. I would prefer a livable wage to more vacation or brand merch. No room for upward movement, they seem to hire outsiders only - and only people that will toe the line, not those that have good  leadership skills or are experienced in the field. Regional leadership displays and allows toxic behavior. Internal office staff is extremely supportive and friendly, creating a more tolerable  atmosphere. With growth seems to have come more rules & micromanagement, which inadvertently makes connection with clientele more challenging. Prevention staff needs more freedom to do what works with their specific people, respond to client needs, and engage the community.

This organization has a very powerful mission. However, the mission is being overlooked day after day and is consumed by corporate greed from anyone in human resources that makes a couple hundred thousand dollars a year. They should be giving this money back to the organization or giving the money to the individuals that work in care like social workers or prevention people that are actually doing the jobs on the ground. This organization has mass layoffs and they will fire people left and right. Everyone is led by fear in this organization because of that it’s a very unstable organization. You will not have job security here they claim that their benefits are I spoke with a recruiter and he told me how great the benefits are, they aren’t affordable at all. The pay is not competitive, although it is a nonprofit I understand that but it’s very corporate so they should start skimming the money from everyone else to make the wages makes sense.

Benefits, PTO, work/life balance, and remote policy meet and exceed my expectations. Compensation might be limited due to their non-profit status; however there is still some level of competitiveness relative to the market. If you are looking for consistent increases, you might have better luck in for-profit. DEIB initiatives are plentiful and there is an employee resource group for almost every lifestyle. Self-expression is welcomed, but more structure might provide better displays of professionalism. Cannot say much about career growth or development here but you will certainly learn a lot in this fast paced, vibrant environment. I am hopeful that the experience here has gotten better since my tenure. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The team work with fellow staff members is very good. The agency's benefits are very good. There are generous time off benefits as well as a medical reimbursement program that kicks in after spending a certain amount on healthcare prior to reaching the deductible.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The clients can be difficult. working to maintain a relationship with community landlord's while trying to ensure the Client's rights and needs are being met. Dealing with some outside professionals can be challenging. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is a very open and outgoing place to work at. The supervisors generally have an open-door style of communication. Staff persons can create the agenda for their monthly supervisory meetings in attention to their supervisor's agenda.

This organization is not to be trusted. After receiving an offer letter I was expected to complete hours of paperwork at home BEFORE my first day which was supposed to be Monday. Despite the difficulty, I did complete this paperwork. But when I asked if that time would be compensated for that time, as this was very strange to be doing orientation work and policy sign-offs without getting paid. Then I learned what this kind of thing is called. I will not be getting paid for this work, in fact, yesterday they rescinded my offer letter. A simple “no” would have sufficed. Instead, because I caught them in this dynamic, they rescinded their offer entirely, citing that they didn’t have any obligation to pay me for any work. Very sketchy. Looks like the kind of behavior of a company that isn’t doing well.

I would say that the social services department needs a lot of work to reach the potential that it could. Ther were a lot of issues, training is not the best, but expectations to meet and over exceed those expectations are still there. Management often times plays favorites and will make sure they will never be at fault for any of your shortcomings. The turnover rate is very high and I feel these reasons contribute to the turnover. Managers keep the same duties even when caseloads are overwhelming and they never pitch in, which shows a lack of support. Overall the culture and team environment amongst the case managers ourselves were pretty good. If they would improve in these areas, Vivent health’s social services department might be an interest to some. 

The clients are amazing and those who do direct service with our clients really care and do amazing work. However, the management does not care to see you succeed or grow and care a lot about the market culture and bottom line. As a prevention specialist, I found myself in very unsafe/life-threatening situations. When brought these concerns and experiences up to management they did not want to take these seriously and told me they didn’t believe me and to keep putting myself in dangerous situations. I was forced to chose between my safety or stay employed. The work you do connecting with clients makes the job.  Know your boundaries if you work here and never bring up concerns to management. Trust your coworkers.
