Voyage Healthcare

Voyage Healthcare has faced significant internal issues since the beginning of the pandemic. On top of the same issues that other health facilities had, their poor management led to at least half of their veteran staff members quitting and finding better employment for better salary. While Voyage Healthcare is a typical 9-5 they will pay you, at best, right at market value for entry level positions, even for staff that have been with the company for 10+ years. Holidays off are really nice, but once you return to the office you must deal with either completely burnt out or completely incompetent coworkers that will increase your work load with no reprieve. While most managers and supervisors will do their best to understand and sympathize with their clinic staff, the administration gives no support to the managers themselves and they have virtually always vetoed all work improvement suggestions posed to them by the very same staff teams that they created. While medical and clerical staff voiced concerns on being over-worked, routinely denied PTO (mostly for the medical staff), and poor benefits, the administration continued to give themselves raises throughout the pandemic. The staff themselves even admitted during a company wide meeting that the main reason why they continue to work at Voyage Healthcare is because of their close relationships with their coworkers. As in trauma bonded. The doctors and medical staff are incredible to work with but the reality of the working conditions are unreasonable. This company is best for people that have little backbone and are comfortable with complying to random demands that may be out of your job description or make your job harder. The power that in-clinic staff, including managers and supervisors, have is largely trumped by the input of the administration so do not expect your voice to be heard, you'll be speaking to a very small room of people that agree with you but have equally little power to enact any changes. Each clinic site will also have a different work culture and most of them are very clique-y.

Let me start off with the good: the providers are the nicest I’ve ever worked with. They have a very good training program. I’ve never had an issue with coworkers. I enjoyed the environment very much. The work was distributed evenly amongst departments.  The bad: I worked for the company for over 2 years and they always had issues with staffing, even pre-pandemic. They laid off way too many people and haven’t recovered. I do think they keep short staffed on purpose to save on wages. The thing I dislike most about this particular company is they pull you from your schedule/location/department to cover shortages in other areas. Schedules for the following week comes out on Thursday afternoons. There is only full-time work, no one has the ability to be part-time. There is zero flexibility in hours. You are required to work a rotated schedule for Saturday’s. It’s difficult to get PTO granted due to staffing issues. 

There was lots of communication during the recruitment process, once you are working for them as an agency employee. You might as well be talking to yourself, my recruiter doesn't answer texts calls or emails for the most part, I just got used to it. There is no feeling of  belonging as an agency nurse, it's quite automated except for the time sheets on paper which the automated aspect is both good and bad. You will feel you belong more at the location you are working than through Voyage. I feel a company should be actively looking for opportunities to improve the employee's pay, quality of work, or location instead of waiting weekly and silently collecting their cut of my check. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Honestly, there isn’t much good in this practice as they are not as dedicated as they seem towards patient care.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The very minimal training that is received, and then the expectations for you to know your job when it was never truly shown to you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a nice looking space however, there’s lots of room for improvement within this company to deliver exceptional care.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Pure chaos with non-dedicated coworkers that are more interested in their personal lives and their phones.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Extremely poor training, there were a few trainers and all of her did things different and would criticize the others for "doing that way"

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor computer software.  Had to type everything by hand. No smart phrases or dot phrase.  Frustrating 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I never felt welcomed.  I have learning anxiety and they were very unsupportive

Phone calls and online medication refills.

I worked at Voyage years ago. Management didn't seem like they cared about you, very low pay. I felt like I couldn't expand myself in other specialties, because it seemed like they didn't believe that I can work in another department. The systems that they use is Eclinical works at the time I was there, not sure what they use now, but it is very inconvenient to patients and us as workers. Especially, trying to get records from different clinics for patients. I sometimes travel to different locations, and this was something that I did not enjoy. Covering for 2 to 3 providers a times was very difficult, but I survived due to my work ethics. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The doctors and staff are for sure the best part

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
you dont get a lot of PTO, nad you dont have sick days

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
its like any other place some days are good some days are stressful

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You get to work, you  start to room you PTs and you prep charts, help the docs with anything they need

I have worked for Voyage Healthcare for more than 15 years and it has become family to me. I have stayed because of the warm personalized care our docs can give being that it’s a privately owned clinic. I wish upper management would be more present in clinic. It seems that supervisors or managers can’t get anything approved until a director is on site and it directly affects them, but that’s healthcare management everywhere I think. 
No place is perfect, there’s improvements that can be made but the good still outweighs the bad. 

I have worked in larger health care organizations with great supervisors, but my opinion has changed since coming to work at Voyage Healthcare. The support from all the staff whenever anyone is going through anything good or bad is amazing! It truly feels like a second family! Management seeks the opinion of  the people doing the job and actually listen when there are concerns. I feel very fortunate to have found Voyage Healthcare as a place to work and plan on staying for a long time. 

Just finished my second year with Voyage, and looking forward to many more.  Upper management is very supportive inside and outside of the office to give you that family/teamwork feeling. There is unlimited opportunities to succeed financially!  Senior recruiters like myself are always helping and training newer employees to grow.
Keep in mind you have to have the mindset to make things happen to make money!!
