I attended court hearings, traveled to see children and worked with different services to ensure the success of treatment for juvenile delinquents or those in trouble of becoming delinquent. I learned a lot about how OCYF works and what the juvenile justice system does. My co-workers were amazing and helped with distressing since the job was very stressful. I was not a fan of doing CPS work and removing children. It was very hard emotionally. It was great to see a child removed from negative situation and they benefited from it. I got attached to some of my children and it was hard to let them go, but it was great to see them succeed.

It’s great working with the youth and helping them apply any coping skills they may need to a situation, but feels like at this specific location things tend to get brushed under the rug way more than they should. If you’re not part of the main “clique”, they’ll make sure you know. A lot of picking and choosing on who gets in trouble when everyone breaks the same rule. Oh and if you messed up, you won’t know about it only until someone else(other than management) says something, but hey free meals(if you work day/evening shift) and pto! I feel as a whole the DHHR may not be bad to work for, but if you are in Elkins WV, DO NOT DO IT

Position included client interviews to determine eligibility for state assistance programs. 

Gained knowledge regarding state assistance programs. Increased customer service and communication skills. 

Management was helpful and supportive. 

Employees displayed good team work. However there was sometimes a negative attitude in the office. 

The hardest part of the job was dealing with difficult customers and completing tasks on schedule due to short staffing. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with the clients and a sense of fulfillment in helping others.

The job I currently possess takes up more than necessary due to having to help the LSW do their job. I have learned that the more you try the more no one cares. Management is awful. Management does and will not hold anyone accountable for the things that they do not do or overlook doing. I do enjoy the people that I work around for the most part. They are good people to talk with, but their work ethic is horrible. The hardest part of my position is being dumped on by workers and management. Instead of management holding the workers accountable to do their own work. I do enjoy the type of work that I do. May not always be in the best situations.

Overall direct management was highly supportive and understanding. 
It's a state position which means low pay but you do get a decent amount of time off, (but it must be planned way in advance) 
A lot of busy training that has nothing to do with the job but is required due to the dept you work for. 
You feel useless for a long time because training that you don't need is required before you start on the phones.
 There is no physical labor you sit in a cubicle and handle calls about abuse and neglect throughout the state. 
Overtime is welcome, but schedules aren't wonderful as it is 24/7 and they need people nights and weekends the most.

Employees are told they make a certain salary but at tax time, the earned gross amount is far less than your stated salary.  This is justified by saying that medical insurance coverages are pretax costs which means you are paying a premium each month and another pretax charge for the same coverage.  Also, raises are years and years between, so the only way to make more money is to move to a higher pay rate.  This makes enemies of friends and an opening releases the inner wolves.

In charge of daily operations with 3 million dollar budget responsibilities, 103 Employees with 14 supervisors. 9 of which reported directly to me. I was responsible for policy and law requirements related to social services from both federal and state funding sources. Would deal directly with professionals in the coummunity (Medical, Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Judges and service providers.

I had 36 clients and I was either guardian or health care surrogate for them. I advocated for them in court on there behave, transported clients to doctors appointments, clothing vouchers, face to face visits every three months or more often as needed. I did the homeless program, end of monthly reports and yearly reports. 6 month meeting and annual meetings. Service plans every 3 months, metal hygiene, moved clients form there home to either a nursing home, assisted living home and an adult family care home. Arranging end of life care and mental health assessments.

The position I currently possess can be very emotionally draining at times. I can be called to transport a customer at any time of the day during a workday. I order BC's, SS cards, Medical records and send out notification letters along with making files, finding people on the internet, speaking with law enforcement, legal employees and just being on the computer. This is just a few of the aspects of my job.
