The company has drastically changed over the years I worked there. It went from being very employee friendly and a family minded attitude towards the employees to profit/money driven in the best interest of the constantly hired executives of the company with little to no trickle down or incentive to the employees earning said profits. It's a "pizza-party" incentive company. No room or availability for any upward movement within the company which has been brought to their attention over several years and still they continue being a mainly "external hiring" company leaving loyal and long standing employees with minimal room for growth and even less pay increases overtime. Most departments are extremely understaffed to the point of creating contention from both frustrated employees and customers with late and/or ineffective changes done to remedy issues. Overall, I'm grateful for my experience at this company because of the great friends I made there and because it taught me what I don't want to experience in a job role or workplace environment ever again.

When i first started working here, I actually enjoyed it. Even when they would gaslit me and point blank lie to me. But as time went on and they were acquired by AAA, the work happiness consistently decreased and the nice things they did for us vanished so quickly. Other Agents and myself worker very hard under extreme pressure for higher up because the rating for the company dropped. We worked hard and diligently even through the rate increases, we were still able to bring the company rating back to a A. What rewards were we given? 
Nothing. The company income had increased so much and were given a $25 gift card and a mass email saying “Thanks”


They tell you that you'll be trained accordingly but instead you are given tools that you do not understand and expected to use these tools  everyday. You are gaslit constantly about procedures and the overall operation runs. You aren't seen as valuable or even a human. Unless you are a Supervisor or higher, you are really on your own. You cannot rely in your supervisor or really anyone who isnt in the same position as you. Trying to have any kind of human connection with any part of management. 
They say the pay is competitive with other companies but it is not. $21/hr is not worth the work and stress that comes with this job. 

I left Wawanesa because of the move I made from California to Maryland. Unfortunately Wawanesa is not located in Maryland so a transfer was not possible. Each day I came into work I was greeted by my supervisor and united very warmly. We all interacted well and joked often. This connection with coworkers created a very pleasant and stable work environment. I learned how to operate on my own with very little to no supervisor or assistance from my supervisor or from anyone in my unit. Each day I would discuss automobile accidents with claimants to determine the cause of the loss and to decide on the best course of action for each individual. By far the hardest part of my job was to discuss a fatality claim with a close family member of the individual who had passed. However, giving the family member support and moving slowing to give them time helped immensely. I hope to stay in the automobile industry in the hopes of gaining another fantastic employer like Wawanesa Insurance.

If being treated like a human being is important to you. DO NOT work for wawanesa. If being treated fairly is important for you DO NOT work for wawanesa. The environment is tense and racially divided.  Coworkers are allowed to make racist comments with no repercussions. Managers are comfortable enough to send emails with ignorant racist stereotypes. It makes you wonder why someone would be that comfortable to send proof of their ignorance. There is no work life balance. There is ever only enough PTO allowed for 2 people out of a company of 300+ to take off a day, absolutely ridiculous. Breaks and lunches are solely placed around "predicted call volume" meaning you will start your shift at 9am go to break at 10am, lunch at 11:30am and not have a break til 3:45pm oh and you can only go to the restroom on breaks and lunches. Your expected to hold it until then. If you cannot hold it your expected to go and be back in 2 minutes.The systems NEVER work yet your expected to do your job correctly and hit goals. How? If the one thing I use daily to do my job doesnt work properly. And yes I do plan on suing this company for racial discrimination

I work in the claims department and I generally enjoy what I do. My schedule is the exact same each week and I love having a consistent schedule. 
In my job role, I intake new claims and answer general inquiry calls from customers. The job is very fast paced and it's challenging. All of my co-workers and supervisors have been supportive in my growth and are open to questions being asked.

My biggest gripe with Wawanesa is the training. I was only in training for about a month before being released onto the floor. After two weeks of classroom training and reviewing the policy, we were thrown onto the phones and had absolutely no idea what we were doing. There was a lot of things we didn't learn in our training. I didn't feel prepared at all when they released me onto the floor but luckily my team was super supportive and open to questions.

My experience with this employer obligates me to warn prospective employees of what they are walking into. You won't believe it at first. I didn't either. But unless you are blind, it will soon become painfully clear.  Beware of this place. Morale is low. Wages are lower. At one point, I learned I was making almost $11,000/year less than a new male counterpart with no experience. My objection fell on deaf ears. Management doesn't care about the welfare of their employees, period. Favoritism is outrageous and blatant. Complaints about supervision are ignored or covered up with lies, intimidation, and/or threats. It is common business practice to single out, & harass individual employees; as well as deny promotions, profit sharing benefits, and more. There seems to be no limit to the lengths this corporation will go to to cover their reprehensible behavior. I am ashamed to have represented them with honor and trust. They certainly do not deserve it.

They want to require GEICO -model effort in their employees (since they hired a ton of supervisors that used to work for GEICO) but do not have the GEICO leadership and perks they need to justify it. 
They have slow and outdated computer systems, they have little flexibility to be off the phones, even when they throw "events" for the employees, everything is during a 10 minute window (and often far away so you can't attend AND use the restroom, for example) They are not organized like GEICO and they don't provide ice for your water (we are sitting all day)  or games (like GEICO had a basketball hoop and boardgames) They have an overpriced cafe that sells really gross food that isn't worth their highly spiked prices. They do not take you off the phones for meetings and trainings like GEICO would do often just to keep our minds happy. 
Overall they expect a lot but don't provide half as much as other companies that DO provide those mental health breaks that we as humans need.

Overall, Wawanesa is a good place to work. Some of their managers and supervisors lack experience but this won't disrupt you if you're resourceful. 
Good pay and benefits. Caring culture that's customer focused to a default in my opinion. 
Many are too afraid to tell their insured's they're liable even when its applicable. This creates issues with proper underwriting and doesn't always protect the customer.

The benefits and perks are good for employee, not so much for family. 
Lots of resources available to include EAP and educational resources. Mental health is also an area where they really get it. 

Diversity and inclusion also appear to be important to execs. I say appear because there aren't any people of color in their executive team which chips away at the idea that they're genuinely DEI aware. Neither in US nor Canada. 
 

I have worked long enough to see the way they treat people here when they disagree. They go into your computer and erase personal information you may have validate your mistreatment.  certain upper management will down talk you to look better. I know of a division super visor that never was taken in to HR and corrected, so the supervisor under her quit out of frustration and lack of communication. certain HR individuals are not correcting upper management and don't address employees concerns on the mistreatment especially in CST level. Many past employees quit here because they speak their mind like this company welcomes the culture value,  They rather have old  employee quit and  just replace with a number, a yes ," sayer.".

Left a solid CS position with high expectations for myself with this organization I heard lots of good things about. Left within 1 year after hearing and initially not believing the "truth" which is the fact the CS supervisors are ones who have each other's back and if you're personally and generally "liked" you're in the click but if you're on the outside of their circle no matter how good you are nor how many customers send in accolades and praises on your behalf your time there is limited. Not naming names but Supervisor's as a team (or gang depending on who's asking) don't have the respect nor trust of those who depend on their support. Especially after initial training where support and assistance is most needed. Outside of that great company.
