I was excited at first but I knew by my third week that I would not be staying unless I had a four-day work week (ten hour days). This is not the kind of setting you will want to spend five days per week at. It's also a "feeder" organization with the majority of staff being transplants from other States excited to live in the Denver area until they see how much it actually cost to live here. The environment is a jail with no windows, grey everything and sitting at your desk half the time daydreaming about not being there. Employees are a mix of cliquish to some cool people. Turnover is very high and like many places that hire majority new people in the mental health field many of the folks are super-stressed or checked-out. My pay was around 60 per year and the job was not hard, but the environment, lack of diversity as well as the general issues would have required more money or a better work schedule. 

Lack of Diversity, I was like the only person of Color among social workers, Re-Entry, etc and some of the folks were nice and cool. However, others from the beginning were pseudo-verbally aggressive and questioning of my decision-making even though my experience, education as well as socio-economic status was a level or two above theirs but always got the vibe of being stereotyped by some to be the dumbest one or the lone EO hire. 

I really wanted to stay a year but realized the job was of no value to my resume because most likely similar jobs would suffer the same issues. I didn't believe this job would be mentally healthy and could be counterproductive for future endeavors. 

1. Work environment is drab and soul-sucking
2. Lack of Diversity (In Denver mind you)
3. Feeder organization that lacked enough people with experience to guide new people properly into the field
4. Cliquish
5. Also, I felt uncomfortable from one coworker that was kinda weird in the sexual harassment way who made me uncomfortable but became not very nice and dismissive when the individual realized I was likely not interested 
6. Type of place if you weren't proactive in saying good morning at least 60% of the folks would barely acknowledge you with a smile.
7. Benefits are subpar
8. Work/Life balance is subpar especially for this kind of job
9. Constant change and churn
10. Meetings upon meetings
11. Not a place for a gogetter
12. Contractor so no real job security
13. I could go on.

If you're thinking of moving to Denver realize that you will need to push 100k to live here and really start to thrive. If not you will watch your income evaporate on apartments or living 30 plus miles from your job as well as the general cost of living. I was lucky because I have a well-paying job with 1/10th the work and a better work environment that I maintained the whole time I was working there. I found another job with less stress that worked with my other schedule I really wanted to like this job but at this point in my career, I don't have to work in these kinds of environments that can make people petty, angry and disgruntled which they eventually potentially take out on their workers or worse their coworkers model this maladaptive behavior. I did not leave because of the clients and they were awesome to work with. 

Leaving Wellpath on my last day felt like I had just been released from jail myself. It is a job I regret taking but I did utilize the pay while there to pay off my vehicle so I guess I have something going for me.

Showed have seen the red flag when the individual scheduled to interview me and the interview time was changed 2 hours before scheduled interview. Was hired for prn day shift. I am a 13 yr experienced RN. Was trained 15 days, over a 5 week period. avgd 3 days a week. Had 9 different trainers, in 2 different buildings, on 4 different floors, on 2 different shifts. 

Every employee sets up their med cart differently. Ie; certain meds on the right or left side or top, middle or bottom drawer etc. On all med carts some meds are in bottles, some on punch out cards that are used for all patients and yet some patients have their own bottles and some have their own punch out cards and you are expected to find the meds in a timely manner and distribute them safely when you are not familiar with the patients or med carts. Of course this was not explained to me prior, I was just expected to catch on I guess. They use paper MARS that are handwritten in. If you could read the handwriting you couldn't understand the order. There is no consistency on how to write a med order or to use military time or standard time. Ie: Tylenol 975mg BID was either written Tylenol 325mg (give three tablets) at 0800 and 2000 or Tylenol 975mg 8am and 8pm sometimes with (give 3 tablets) written as well. Dose on hand was 325mg tablets and 500mg tablets. Some meds for segregation pts. were pre-pulled in the medical room and put into paper cups and labeled for when you got to that area. But you were told "that wasn't the real way you were to do it". Management was aware of this.

Not one trainer allowed me to do a complete shift on my own. They always did some or all of it. They would always do things differently than someone else and you are expected to learn the routine? 

The employees and management are extremely immature. The DON (lol) constantly joked and flirted with the employees as he actually graduated from nursing school with two of them. Average age is approximately late twenties and most are straight out of nursing school. One trainer actually applied fingernail polish to her nails as she told me I was not allowed to check my phone for other agency calls/appointments. One trainer constantly spoke with and/or texted her detective boyfriend who worked for same facility trying to get her co-worker set up on dates through him with other officers. That's when she wasn't on facebook or fixing her hair and make-up. The endless flirting that goes on there is nauseating. But make sure you sign the NO fraternization paperwork.

Profanity is a norm from the employees and management of CCS and the employees of the jail, yet my first day there, a nurse was sent home and written up for swearing. No doubt a show of power from the manager in front of me. 

The Physician argued loudly and rudely with the inmates/patients and actually stated seriously about a patient. "That guy must be r e t a r d e d." Really? You are supposedly a medical professional and you use the word "r e t a r d e d " in this century? He was just as unprofessional as everyone else there.



Not much to say good about this facility and/or company other than the 8 hour shifts vs.12 hour shifts.

A Typical Day at Work:
A typical day as a Health Administrator involves juggling many moving parts. I usually start by reviewing reports—patient intake, staffing levels, and departmental performance metrics. Then, it’s on to meetings with department heads to discuss operations, compliance issues, or upcoming policy changes. Throughout the day, I deal with a variety of unexpected challenges, whether it’s a staffing shortage, an IT glitch, or navigating patient concerns. The day is full, fast-paced, and often unpredictable., 

What I Believe I Learned:
This role has taught me the importance of adaptability and communication. I've learned how to interpret complex regulations, manage resources efficiently, and lead diverse teams. Perhaps most importantly, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for how administrative decisions directly affect patient care outcomes and staff morale.

Management:
Effective management in healthcare is about more than just supervision—it's about leadership, collaboration, and empathy. I’ve learned that building trust with my team, being transparent in decision-making, and maintaining open lines of communication are essential for smooth operations. It’s a balance between being decisive and being compassionate., 

Workplace Culture:
Culture is everything. A positive workplace culture—one that values teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement—can significantly impact both employee satisfaction and patient outcomes. I strive to foster an environment where staff feel heard, supported, and empowered to deliver their best., 

The Hardest Part of the Job:
The most challenging aspect is managing crises while keeping morale high. Whether it’s responding to a public health emergency or dealing with budget cuts, staying calm under pressure and making tough calls can be stressful. Balancing the needs of patients, staff, and the system at large is never easy., 

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most rewarding part is seeing the positive impact of our work—when process improvements lead to better patient care, when staff feel recognized, or when a new initiative takes off successfully. Knowing that my efforts contribute to a healthier community is incredibly fulfilling., 

A typical day of work:  Coming into work, being greeted by security personnel, Clocking in; getting keys and a radio; Counting Sharps and Narcotics; Getting report from the previous shift; Formulating list of clinic/sick call; getting prepared for Med Pass.  Going out into the unknown....Not knowing what others are really going through and how that may manifest in their and behavior and or interaction with you, so you had better have your Armour on (spiritually, emotionally and physically)
What you believe you learned:  I learned that what my Momma taught me, which was "understand others and adjust yourself"  would help me more than she would have ever guessed and or would have known with my day-to-day dealings with all staff, non-medical/security, Medical staff, Mental Health staff members, and with the people or the population we serve.  
My Management: Team is very dear to my heart.  When you are in the trenches of work and you work together on a common goal and you accomplish that goal together; there is a special closeness and bound built, like that of a familial unit.  I love that my Management Team is always checking in with us to make sure that we are okay and they genuinely want to know our thoughts on situations and /or goal oriented planning.
Workplace culture:  Is that of TEAMwork Makes The Dream Work
The hardest part of the job: is when traveling and arriving to a facility for the 1st time attempting to get the fellow workers to see you has a helper and not a hindrance; to see you as a team player and not an auditor/"spy"; Being "firm, fair, and consistent with the population you are serving at the same time while building a good patient / nurse professional rapport.
The most enjoyable part about the job: is being able to recognize that you have built a good rapport amongst you fellow co-workers, non-medical staff (Security), and the people/population you all serve.  Then it becomes a well oiled machine that produces tangible, visible change in the population that we serve; Individuals seeing and feeling that someone truly cares by helping (being a partner to) them, in taking responsibility and accountability for their Wellness Path.

Working at the SCSVPTP was one of the most rewarding yet difficult experiences in my entire life. I enjoyed working with the residents, but the job load was way too much. As a therapist, you are always taking on extra people on your caseload, covering extra groups, and other clinical activities. The documentation is crazy and it is incredibly difficult/darn near impossible to finish it all within your work day. You will always be working more than your scheduled hours, whether it is staying late or working from home during your time off. Security staffing is not great and I have often had questions regarding our safety in the facility, especially following several close calls. There is very poor communication between the different departments which is integral to properly running a facility. The clinical supervisors for the most part were dismissive and not very supportive. Upper Management and other department's supervisors were not great either. The workplace culture is really what you make it. If you are well liked, it may not be too bad for you. I learned so much and I became stronger clinically through the process. However, at the end, I was burned out to the max. Overall, I would not recommend this role unless you are ready for intense, time-consuming, and sometimes soul crushing work. There are better ways that you can grow clinically. If you choose to work here despite the negative reviews (like I did before), please be prepared to set FIRM boundaries with staff about what you can and cannot do, always leave work on time, seriously limit the amount of time you work from home, use your PTO whenever you can, make sure you are safe regardless of what staff is there, document EVERYTHING because some staff will backtrack and attempt to throw you under the bus, and have an excellent self-care routine. 

Like all work places, no where is perfect and in todays times everyone is exhausted. With that said, I am very grateful to be working for Wellpath. I joined the corporate world in October 2019, right before the pandemic. Despite the typical stereotypes and rumors of working for the corporate world, I have been welcomed by friendly coworkers, great teammates, good benefits, and an overall positive work culture. Joining the corporate headquarters, meeting department heads, and actually  getting personal updates to staff from the CEO was something I did not expect. Everyone pushes up their sleeves and gets to work. Personally, I have experienced more appreciation and recognition for my work in my 22 months here that I have at any of my previous jobs combined. I am a part of a wonderful team that promotes a healthy work-life balance and self-care whenever possible, along with sharing the burden of the immense workload/stress in todays times. This makes doing some hard work much much easier. 

I can say from witnessing first hand, Wellpath is constantly striving to provide for and encourage its employees during a time of greatest need in the healthcare community from the effects of the pandemic to the staffing shortages. I've learned that the correctional healthcare industry  is one that is challenging due to strict guidelines and more serious correctional environments. Despite this, Wellpath matches the consequences or difficulties of the environment with striving to help one of the most vulnerable populations in our country. I don't expect to work for the "perfect" company, as I don't believe that exists. I will, however, happily continue to work for a company that I can consistently see striving to be better and help others. 

I worked for Wellpath for forty-eight hours, fifty if you count the four thirty minute lunch breaks they took out. This place is scary, and that's an understatement. And I'm not saying that because you work inmates, nope it's the corperation and management it's self.

1. On my first day there, I didn't get trained. I walked in, and introduced myself, it was night shift, and my manager told me to come on that day at that time. I was let in by a guard. None of the medical staff even tried to introduce themselves to me. I was almost kicked out by the sergeant for not having security clearance done... however my boss never told me to do that. I had NO access to clinical or jail software.

2. After being trained, I liked the jail setting. However my coworkers were ex-cons themselves and often flirted with the inmates which I found distasteful still I didn't say anything.

3. I asked my boss for a week off via email. She granted me that week off. I came back, and she told me I had a "no call, no show" in my thirty day period, and let me go. I showed her the email, and she said that she had already started the termination process in the county and Wellpath.

4. Wellpath waited three months to pay me, after relentless nagging, I begged for my $400 paycheck. They ignored my calls, and refused to pay me. I finally filed a complaint with the Department of Labor, and got paid. The paycheck came back to me, and was bounced. This company took another month to pay me for the bounced check. I should of sued for emotional distress.

5. This company messed up my W2. It's been five weeks since they've been sent out, and they still haven't sent me a new one. I'm considering calling the IRS. 

If you care about getting paid and your sanity, if you have any respect or self-love, you won't work for this company. They are also low-paying for around the valley as well. 

The company's motto is do the right thing, I sure wish they would have.

I regret to say that my experience with Wellpath has been far from satisfactory. From the very beginning, the lack of a proper orientation process has left me feeling ill-prepared and unsupported in my role. This issue extends beyond personal discomfort and has direct implications for the quality of care provided to inmates.
The orientation process is woefully inadequate. New employees are not given the necessary information and training to excel in their roles, leading to a pervasive sense of unpreparedness among staff members.
The atmosphere within the company is notably unfriendly, fostering an environment that is neither welcoming nor conducive to collaboration. There is a discernible presence of cliques, further exacerbating the sense of isolation for newcomers.
One of the most alarming aspects of my experience is the apparent lack of concern for the well-being of inmates. The care provided is subpar, with outdated formularies and practices that appear to prioritize cost-cutting over the health and safety of those in custody.
While financial considerations are a natural part of any organization's operations, it is disheartening to observe corners being cut at the expense of essential resources for inmate care. The formulary's lack of updates, presumably to save money, reflects a concerning prioritization of financial concerns over the ethical responsibility to provide adequate care.
In conclusion, my time with Wellpath has been marked by disappointment and frustration. I sincerely hope that the company takes immediate action to rectify these issues, addressing the inadequate orientation process, fostering a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture, and prioritizing the well-being of inmates over cost-saving measures.



What is the best part of working at the company?
I'm working I work in program the best part of the job is the flexibility case in point if you have a family emergency that would allow you to take time off to deal with your situation

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unfortunately there's no company that is perfect in the case of well path it's not what you know it's who you know for example I have a master's degree I've been there for 19 years , oh I've trained many people that have come after me, I have not been able to move up in ranks due to the fact that I'm a minority. It has also been discovered that other sites that well path exist that have less minorities they get paid more than the hospital where I work at all over the hospital where I work at is more prestigious in the role model for all the other facilities

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I stated earlier it's not what you know it's who you know for example many people within my department we have over 10 years experience with masters degree and yet we've been held back because of the simple fact that we don't know too many people in hierarchy so therefore many prestigious position has all passes by

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Physical day at the job can be challenging based upon your conduct for example I work in forensics so therefore you have to understand your clients have good communication with your client as long as you respect your clients your client will respect you however if you treat the client beneath you or beloved the client it could be very challenging and it could be very dangerous so therefore the culture of the job is to respect the client you work with just like respect your coworker and you respect yourself

I have worked for Wellpath (through several company combinations) for over 15 yrs. It saddens me to see the negative comments in here, about a few bad eggs. The majority seems to be about their immediate supervisor or the sites they work in. I can say that my experiance with Wellpath has been much different. I started out as a PRN floor nurse, and was "grown" and encouraged to build the career I have today (and still room to grow) from my immediate supervisors/mentors.  The home office's philosophy, "Do the Right Thing", rings true to me, and I try to live by that, as well as, care for patients by that. I have never felt unsupported in any way by the home office and management team above me and I feel that I have a excellent team that provides stellar "boots on the ground" direct medical and mental health care to our patients, inmates/offenders, in all of my facilities I manage, and would expect nothing less. 

Corrections work is a tough gig... It takes strong, passionate, dedicated people.  We work with hundreds of challenging patients going through the worst times in their lives, on a daily basis. Assessing and evaluating their true medical and mental health needs, all while being called names, screamed at, lied to and attempting to be "played".  It is often disappointing to see the same patients come in over and over.  On the flip side, it is highly rewarding, and rarely acknowledged.  Thousands of lives saved, either by "talking them off the ledge", helping with addiction, advocating for their needs, diagnosing severe medical conditions that they would never have sought treatment for on the outside or just being an "ear" for them. 

In short, I LOVE this company! I LOVE correctional nursing! We are doing the right thing!
