Shifts begin by reading the previous shifts log entry. These entries explain the previous shifts routine, informs of any medications given to the residents to make sure no mistakes are made or medications are given twice. Relays situations prior too, during, and after a resident has a "behavior", or acts out of the normal due to frustration/situations etc. This allows the next shift to be aware as to why the residents may be acting differently and how to redirect if another behavior may take place during their shift. Daily routines are described within the log post to inform of daily outings and meals eaten for each resident. This allows for the next shift to bring each resident out accordingly, and what type of meal should be fixed the next shift. Managers check in each day and each staff is responsible for helping other staff as well as residents without favoritism for themselves or the residents benefits. Everyone is well respected and individuals enjoy seeing new staff come in each day, they become familiar with them and each days routines. Maintaining this routine is important for the residents and the staff to make the house run smoothly and keep everyone as happy and healthy as possible.

I have worked in many human services companies before and Westbay was the place where I can say is the best in caring, having fun, supporting, acknowledging, rewarding, Teamwork, communicating, and so much more to mention they just go above and beyond for all the residents and the employees. They take a stand in the rights of the residents and employees, by respecting in all interactions. Everyone that I have worked alongside are extremely friendly and caring for all people , and if they’re people who don’t represent  these qualities that I am speaking about after a while they become part of the team by working in those areas they are lacking for the good of the company. The only uncontrollable aspect of this job that’s a downfall is the rate of pay we lose extremely passionate and hard-working employees because the state won’t raise the pay. Every year we are fighting for the increase in the human service field so that the people will not lack in quality of work because of low pay. So if your looking To make a difference in peoples lives Westbay is a great place to start a career in supporting people.

Coming to West Bay RI after working in a few different companies makes me realize how special West Bay RI is. They just don't think you are a body to fill a position. You are adding to the atmosphere and the daily lives of people who want the same things you and I do. We are there supporting them, helping them obtain their goals at the same time enjoying those moments as they achieve those goals. You find yourself building relationships you never knew you were missing. You will be helping them in everyday tasks, meal prepping, activities, simple upkeep of the residential home. The covid did throw a wrench in things, but as West Bay does, they stepped up to make sure everyone stays safe. The communication is tight. There are covid procedures that are followed multiple times a day to ensure the safety of the individuals and staff. 
There is much growth here, from DSP's to management to nurses. I find there is a genuine desire to not only support the individuals but also staff. You certainly do not find this in just any company. I wish I found West Bay sooner.

West Bay Residential Services Direct Support typically deals with shifts in group homes or out with residents of the homes. The medication management and interactions with management were informative and good for gaining experience. Consistent understaffing and lack of adequate resources to recruit or increase pay wore thin on staff already employed and at times led to decreased morale. However, the company is filled with many hard-working and dedicated employees that worked tirelessly and stretched themselves thin to provide services and care to individuals spread out throughout central and northern Rhode Island. Behavioral issues could be quite daunting to deal with at times as well as ensuring communication was regularly flowing throughout the staff, especially between shifts. The most rewarding part of the job personally, was the daily interactions with scores of residents intended to improve life skills or achieve a healthier lifestyle overall. The rewards helped me maintain my perspective on why I got involved in such an industry in the first place.

I have worked in human services for over 20 years and with 4 different agencies. Never have I come across an agency with a total disregard for the mental health and balance of home and work life as I have West Bay. Management is completely unavailable and disrespectful and out of touch with the lives of the staff who work there.  Work here if you want to hear upper management call messes living like you live in a trailer park. Work here if you enjoy hearing it is what it is from upper management. Work here if you don’t want to be respected and have a manager who has no concern for your well being and would schedule you 7 hours between shifts and get upset with you when you voice your concerns. 

I have been with West Bay RI for 4 years. I came to West Bay RI with very little experience as DSP part time and when I was able to become full time I did. I am now a Direct Support Specialist. Work/life balance is important and the company recognizes this. West Bay RI focuses on the people we support to meet their goals and to build the life THEY want. At the same time the company invests in the staff, so they can too meet their goals. This is giving me a opportunity grow with in the company. The culture is welcoming and everyone is supportive, no matter the title someone holds. Not to mention the benefits, they are very generous. (I pay for the Family plan, BCBS, dental and vision is $187 a MONTH!!! Plus alot of other benefits.
If you are in the market for a job, want to help people, build a career, learn, gain experience, have fun, (we have alot), be part of a creative team, need full or part time you should just apply, the training is paid. I highly recommend West Bay RI. 

From the time you do your first interview, to attending orientation (now virtual due to the virus), to training in the home, it is clear that West Bay is philosophically well-aligned for those the agency supports day in and day out. The job can be challenging and it is not for everyone. We handle everything from assisting with personal needs, help to make nutritional meals, following behavioral health programs/guideline, nursing plans of care, etc. That said, it is also the most rewarding job I've ever held, since we get to make an immediate impact on people's lives daily.  When they are able to attain their   goals to see their wishes and dreams realized, it is just that much more amazing. 

They put on a show during training and the people at the office make up. Everything sounds so great once you get there it is completely unlike the training it is not medically talked about enough not to mention the people that you work with will constantly talk about you and try to run you off your shifts for them to take, the people there have favorites there are a couple people that have been there over 20 years who get away with everything including putting the residence life’s in harms way I expressed my feelings along with other ex employees that worked there to higher up people, and they still continue to do nothing just because these people have been in the company for such a long time. 

West Bay is a phenomenal place to work alongside dedicated, compassionate team members who embrace the organizations mission and core values.  The culture is one in which people come first. Leadership values everyone's input, encourages each person to contribute and further develop their skills and abilities, as well as treating all members with dignity and respect.  

Embracing and cultivating each individuals desires, dreams and abilities is what this job is all about! There are plenty of training and job advancement opportunities.

I've worked for West Bay for several years and I have seen such drastic improvements in the employee pay rates and benefits. There are a variety of shifts flexible enough to work around any schedule. The longevity the staff have with the company is incredible, unlike some companies I've worked for where there is  constantly a high turnover rate and new faces every few months. They treat their individuals they support with so much respect and love; you really get the sense that you belong to a family. I am so proud to be an employee at West Bay Residential Services, and I'm so excited to watch the company better itself even more.
