A typical day at work consisted of assigning co-workers to classes when the principal was absent. I also had the pleasure of obtaining substitute teachers when regular teachers were absent. I learned how to use Kronos which was the software the Chicago Public School used to pay employees. My management staff consisted of the Principal and the Vice Principal. When management was absent, I had the pleasure of being controlling the staff and students. The hardest part of the job was the pain I saw on a childs face when mom or dad was extremerly late picking them up from school. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing that the staff would go home with the correct amount of payment on their check.

At West Suburban we strive to keep our patients safe and protected from diseases and infections. even when it's extremely busy with turn overs or a couple add-ons we work together to have everything set for the doctors and the procedures. the tray have started to come naturally to me when I start to set them up for sterilization, but the best part is how i've really started to learn how to clean different instruments correctly to keep everyone safe. if I need a day off or an emergency has come up the staff and my manager is open to helping us find out who needs to fill in and what I can so to help them out when they need assistance after I have returned. The workload does tend to get to me once and a while, but with the team I have had the chance to work with it still flows smoothly, for the most part.

I entered during the time when the management was about to change and there was a lot of budget cuts. There were very few staff nurses and plentiful agency nurses in all units/departments. I remember there were about 20 of us hired but only less than 5 were left. Towards the end of my employment, they cut the pay of our agency nurses and we were running with bare bones staffing. Extremely high turn over rate. Almost zero accountability for anyone. Benefits are average including pay. It's good if you want sort of a stepping stone experience to proceed to a hospital that you may really wanna work at. The people I worked with there are pretty great, mostly fresh graduates who are dedicated to stay but it's the management that are driving this place to the ground.

My day started every day promptly at 4:30 am mon- Friday and alternating weekends, prep phlebotomy cart, and on my way. I truly enjoyed working with the Doctors, and Nurses we worked as a team always. The hardest part of the job in the medical field for me will always be "good bye" because I kept falling in love with all the patients over and over again. The most enjoyable part of the this job was to see a patient go home feeling 1000% better than when they first came to the hospital. What I learned from working in this field is that its okay to let everyone know that you truly love your job and not be afraid to voice an opinion if you disagree, and not be afraid to speak out if it involves the care of a patient.

Having worked here has given me a deeper understanding that CNA's are the heart beat of thus work force and that even when other staff members don't appreciate your patients will appreciate everything you do for them. I've worked with some bullies at the place but persevered and got another job, which has a more professional staff who believes in teamwork and the Nurses don't look down on their CNA's. The Nurses at my new employment don't just pass medication but assist the CNA's with patuent care and ADL's without a negative attitude. The Nurses at West Suburban Medical Center made me realize that I'm a better, more compassionate  Nurse now because of how they looked down on me as a cna.

A typical day as a lead cook; Worked in all stations to facilitate food order including baking, salad, prep, pizza, prep, char grill, flat grill, saucier, dinner room. Prepared and prepared homemade soups and scratch and variety salad dressing based on cook book recipes. Expedited orders based on the customer's request, which requires to be able to know the menu. Closed work stations, also cleaned to ensure they are sanitized and prepared for the next day. Maintained kitchen hoods, exhaust system, and drains to ensure proper ventilation and drainage though out each scheduled lunch. Maintenance of cleaning the flyers and filtering the oil in between rushes.Stocked cooler with food needed for the day. Working in this field was busy, exciting, able to enter act with coworkers and meeting greeting new people.

West Suburban has a great history and a few of the best long-term employees still exist but it's a rough experience these days. As the hospital went into decline, much of management left and their duties were dumped onto the remaining senior and regular clinical/non-clinical staff. There is little accountability and some employees have been allowed to walk off their job from day to day and still return for a paycheck. As a result, patient care has suffered. I hope one day the hospital can turn around and reflect the high standards it once did. 

At this facility you get to learn a lot. ICU nurses are knowledgeable and you become more skilled when critically thinking. Good place to get your experience, after that, let yourself be the judge. It all depends on your experience. 
It is a small hospital, everyone knows each other. It is all about business and knowing or getting along with the right person. This could be unfortunate.
The hardest part of the job while being an ICU nurse is the level of stress you handle, lots to learn. The most enjoyable part is having a great team of colleague nurses willing to help at all times.

I was a social work intern at West Suburban and it was an overall good experience. Though there are some challenges, I would say that the staff there really do their best to work  as a team to support patients. I did notice a sense of arrogance with a few of the medical professionals, but that could happen anywhere and you just have to grow in confidence and know that no one is inferior to you no matter their job title or position. 

My field instructor was amazing and wanted to see the people she led/ managed grow and develop. I was not a full time employee so my experience is different than someone who may have been. Give West Sub a try, you might like it!

A typical day at work is to help my patients manage their breathing and to tend to all of their needs. to  go above and beyond of what they need, whether it is in my job description or not. I have learned to become attentive to small details while at work whether it is to operating equipment or my work environment. My coworkers are very helpful if and when I get behind on my given assignment. The hardest part of my job is having to go to code blues (cardiac arrests) and not being able to save every patient. The most enjoyable part of my job is making my patients smile even when they are not in the best state of health and helping them the best I can
