I worked here for a few years. It started off as a great place to be with a goal to do its best in caring for patients. Through out the years, staffing began to dwindle, changes to upper management began to forever rotate. During my time alone, there were at least 4 CEO changes, the facility atmosphere went from feeling relatively safe, to a stress filled dangerous place. There is rarely enough employees to keep the units properly staffed, nurses often stuck working on the unit by themselves tending to 10+ patients, and in the event of an agitated patient triggering a code, practically no response. Thats not because people didnt want to help in those situations, but because theyre unable to leave their unit because there isnt enough help to begin with. A lot of the employees in upper management are rude, unsupportive of staff and honestly do not have a grip om their job. The amount of times ive heard regular employees, even directors in some cases, talk down about the facility and how poorly ran it is was eye opening. There are a lot of opportunities to work overtime, and they are generally flexible with the schedule, but not necessarily in a positive sense, but yet another reflection of how poorly staffed they are. Another issue with that is the patients are not getting proper care. Sure, they might conduct some groups, social workers MIGHT have a chance to see their patients, but its clear that they only care about filling beds. It wouldnt surprise me that one of the only reasons the state hasnt forced them to close is due to the fact that its one of the few places that has a child/adolescent special needs unit. I can confidently state that the reason that place is a failure is due to the men and women in administration that just are not qualified to work the title they are given, maybe they could be, but the negtivity of the facility has completely rubbed off on them and has created a hostile and unsafe environment.

The hospital is poorly managed, however the staff is excellent. The priorities of upper management are completely wrong, they focus on fixing unnecessary problems while glossing over fundamental issues. In my time there, they never figured out how to schedule people, which often resulted in severe understaffing, or overstaffing where they would send people home. Not only is management incompetent, but the safety standards are awful. Myself and others were afraid for our lives on a weekly basis. On top of all the aforementioned problems, I and many other employees noticed our paychecks were much smaller than they should have been. These problems were always due to "technical issues" but somehow always resulted in staff being underpaid than overpaid... The staff however is amazing, hardworking, and very caring. I stayed as long as I did because I loved my coworkers. I will say that the scheduling was very flexible, and overtime was always achievable (mostly due to how understaffed they always were due to people quitting/not showing up).

Do not work here, do not send your family here. Administration is out of touch with the day to day operations, suggest and attempts to implement schedules and policy’s that never went through any practical analysis. Understaffed regularly putting patients and staff in danger. Groups rarely happen for the full duration often giving out paper Handouts calling them “packet groups.” The Special needs unit is a disaster. Those children are regularly in dirty cloths and smell of urine. They some how get tips when DMH will be arriving and attempt to cover there tracks but putting on additional staff and sending out mass text and emails to their clinical department that read, “DMH is in the building!”  They have no interests in proper patient care, just staffing to the grid. They bank on the bed shortage in Massachusetts keeping them from being shut down. The turnover rate at this place is astronomical. They currently don’t have enough staff in any department to follow DMH regulations. DO NOT allow your family or child to receive treatment at the facility! Unsafe, unethical and grossly negligent.

No opportunity for career advancement.

Supervision IS NOT PROVIDED. Those that need supervisory hours for licensure advancement WILL NOT receive them at this facility. 

Strict deadlines, overtime required by strongly advised against. You will get pushback when requesting to work overtime, and hostile responses such as "what have you been doing all day" when requesting extra time to catch up on work after a particularly busy day, or after needing to take time off sick.

Unclear expectations of weekend work hours.


Seemingly incompetent and otherwise unavailable department heads, ie difficult to get help when needed during crises.

Subject to unprofessional dialogue, intimidating postures and tones from supervisors, and disrepscrful treatment of staff by department heads.

All around hostile work environment.

My time at WBHH was...dynamic. I truthfully don't have constructive or favorable things to say about the company overall, but instead of writing a scathing review about the aspects I took issue with, I'm choosing to sing the praises of the outpatient program specifically. As a clinician on that team, I worked with some of the most talented, compassionate, and knowledgeable people I've ever known, many of whom have become close friends and trusted peers in the field. The now-director of the program works tirelessly to make sure that quality care  and safety is provided to patients and that her staff feel supported. It was often an incredibly fast-paced work environment, which meant I learned a lot during the time I was there. If you're considering applying to Westborough Behavioral, I would strongly recommend the outpatient department over the rest of the hospital.  

This hospital provides little to no training for the direct care or counseling staff that works on the units. The management only cares about their billing numbers and they do not want to keep patients the real about of time that the patients really need in a lot of cases. There TO many involuntary medical restraints at this hospital. So many that patients have been pulled out of the hospital due to the amount that they were involuntary restrained.  The hospital does not even have a clinical director even though this is a psychiatric hospital. They do NOT provide licensure supervision like they say they will. Working here can have a negative impact on a clinician licensure and their license.

This was my first professional post graduation employment occupation and it was an excellent learning experience. My superiors there were tremendously warm and empathetic people. I worked in HR and the Medical Records Dept being utilized as a floater. It was an unbelievable honor to perform great tasks in both departments working with exceptionally like-minded professionals! Superb structure and management to work for, I was able to be efficient all throughout the day and really enjoyed the administrative work I was performing. Would highly recommend for any aspiring professionals with a good attitude!

The RN is a professional who must examine their own behavior and align with an employer who shares some of their own values. My short experience with this hospital was observing a “free for all” characterized by insufficient training and derisory staffing. 

Patient needs often went unmet and nurses who worked with the system as well as they could were denied legal meal breaks and understaffed, forcing them to stay later than scheduled on an almost daily basis.

People try very hard to make the best of a situation while the hospital creates an environment that leans toward constructive dismissal—further short staffing a hospital with a staffing crisis.

This is a new company a little over 1 year. They have the same staffing issues as they have had before and there doing nothing to fix it. They follow a very low grid which can feel very unsafe. They always have staff call outs or they call people to not come in and then are scrambling to get people. With psych you cannot follow a bare minimum grid, these are psych patients. 
Managers are always scrambling and are so busy there is no time for them to help. Upper management just looks at numbers, fill the beds, but when you don’t have good staff it’s hard on the staff that does work. I’ve only been here for a few months and I’m already burnt out from helping.

Westborough Behavioral has the worst administrative leadership I have worked for in my professional career. This is a place that devalues ethics, employee wellness, and patient care and places the utmost value on monetary gain. Patients are far from the center of treatment and low ethical standards infiltrate all aspects of providing quality care. The infighting/lack of teamwork between departments is unprofessional and sets employees and patients back. I do not recommend working here.
