Which Wich Superior Sandwiches

I'm at an East Texas location and Which Wich is a piece of work. The work is not challenging, it can be rewarding even, but the employees are treated rather poorly. One of the owners plays games and picks favorites. If they are having a bad day, everyone else has to as well. For example, one free sandwich was promised after every shift due to Covid-19, however I was often told to pay for my sandwich by the person who promised the free sandwiches.

As for the lack of employee benefits:
As a new employee who had experience in sandwich making at a different restaurant, I was offered $7.50 an hour. That's 25 cents above minimum wage, by the way. I hope you didn't expect breaks, because they are only obligated to give you a break for 30 minutes every 8 hours. If you work 6-7 hours, chances are you won't get a break, even if the restaurant is not busy. After a few months, you get a raise to $7.75 an hour. After that, there's no ability to increase wage unless you are promoted. The general manager makes about $15/hour. No wonder the turnover rate is so high. On days you do work, you get a 50% employee discount, but it only applies to sandwiches (apparently), so there will be no discount applied to drinks or other items. On a day you don't work, you are charged the same as any other customer. If you work one day and don't use the employee discount but come back the day after and ask to use it on an order, you are not allowed to (yes, I checked).

My fellow team members are normal people trying to make a little money and folks tend to get along well. The assistant managers are generally really great. The general manager, even, keeps the peace and isn't insane. Turnover rate is high, people are leaving left and right. A 25 cent raise isn't going to appease people where they can get $9/hour for a starting position at most other places. Such strict guidelines on the employee discount are absurd. 

TLDR; The work is easy and employees are nice, but there are almost no breaks, unusually strict employee discounts, and rules that only sometimes apply.

I worked for Which Wich twice. 

The first time I was General Manager and I was only paid $8.00/hr as a general manager.. They stole from their employee's and the entire staff ended up walking out forcing them to shut the doors. 

Then, a friend told me that a new family was re-opening it. I loved the company itself, so I thought maybe these owners would be better. Boy, was I wrong. 

The first week we opened, the owners went out of town for vacation and were not always reachable. I had trainers that weren't completely sure of what was going on as things were being changed in corporate office, which was not their fault. I had a brand new staff and I had to learn an entire brand new system and ways of doing things. 

When the owners got back, a week later I was taken out of my position as general manager (because I was naturally overwhelmed) and unwillingly placed in a position as catering and marketing. I was to ride around within a 41 mile radius daily (40+ hours a week) and the only compensation they gave me for gas was $25 for two weeks....I drive a dodge Dakota.

When I brought up that between my pay and gas that I was struggling to make ends meet I was scolded and taken out of that position and put as a crew member. My new pay rate was $9/hr and my hours ranged from 15-20 hours a week. I am 33 years old with my own place and vehicle and bills.  No one can live off of that. I still stayed and got treated terribly.

When I got fired, the owner told me that they lost money because of me (Even though I brought in the catering and that's what was keeping their company afloat) and that I was a failure at everything I do. 

He then sent me a text telling me that they had video of me "throwing stuff at employee's who weren't sure if they were going to press charges against me" Nothing was thrown at their employee's. 

All in all, I love the company, just make sure the franchise you work for have owners that are actually decent people.

This is my experience of when I worked at Which Wich for two months. My first two weeks there was "training" but all I was trained to do is make the sandwich properly, every thing else was essentially thrown at me to figure out on my own. The owner was very friendly toward me and understanding that this was my first job. My co-workers on the other hand were very unprofessional and talk active. 
When I was learning how to clean certain items on the list they would point toward what i'm cleaning and then become aggrivated when I "did it wrong" when I was never properly taught the right way. There seems to be a lot of gossiping and off time, there was points in my shift where I was the only one out in the lines while my coworkers and manager would play on their phones. This being my first job I thought schedules would stay the same for the most part besides occasional shift changes we are informed about. This was not the case after I showed up on a wednesday to later find out I was suppose to work the previous day, A tuesday. This was a first for me because I never worked a tuesday my entire career there. this was my fault in a sense of me not fully examining the schedule yet only glancing at it. When I walked in, I was told to call the owner. 
I got home then called him and he said "There is no exceptions you are off the schedule for a week I will call you if I decide to give you more hours". One week passes and he calls me just to tell me "he can't do" and to come pick up my check. When I picked up my check the following day I was told that was probably a "made up reason" and people have had no call-no shows before without being fired. 
Overall my experience there was pretty mediocre.

When I first started working there, the training was good because it was simple and easy to do.  At the location I worked at, there were usually 3 people per shift, and then 2 would close the shop.  I always closed.  Once you got past the initial training, you never learned anything else.  I thought myself to make better looking sandwiches and put together properly so it could be enjoyed.  But the majority send out were just thrown together(not unusual).  The only thing I had to look forward to was leaving with my dinner, and its a good thing that they let you put anything on your sandwiches, because it at least seemed like there were compensating us.  For over a year I was getting paid $8/hr as a cashier that was a line cook... that cleaned the dishes, and swept the floors, and also cleaned all the bathrooms and windows while my boss sat down and watched fortnite live streams.  So all of this ties to management.  The level of care that goes into picking franchise owners is terrible.  I hated that I would be the only one doing anything with a boss who was always high or smoking.  I believe if the management was more equipped for running a business, then I would've had a pleasant experience, because the few times I had coworkers on the same shift, they were always kind and pleasant people.  If you're going to apply for for one of these stores, I don't discourage you, just make sure you go in beforehand to see how things are run.

I was with Which Wich for 18 months, and it was a great job to have while I was getting my degree. There was a great work/life balance, and I usually had fun. My typical work life was working night shifts until they switched me to day shifts when I became experienced. 

A typical work day includes prepping ingredients, completing chores, and making the wiches. Management was pretty laid back and fun, except for an 18 year old manager that was lazy during her shifts. Big yikes. Our general manager was really good at making a schedule that fit everybody's needs. He was patient and had corny dad jokes to make you laugh.

Workplace culture: have fun, do your chores, be on time, and get it done. Sometimes our crew would get coffee just to get a boost, and we enjoyed each other. 

Hardest part of the job was realizing I could not become an assistant manager, so I had to watch newer employees take those positions. It was frustrating to know I couldn't climb that ladder while I was pursuing my degree. It took a lot of pep talks from my general manager to understand that life can suck at times, but you shouldn't stop putting in that effort when it doesn't seem fair. Cleaning the drains and ovens weren't the worst part when it comes to overcoming your personal letdowns. 

I enjoyed my job, and I was sad when my last day came. Which Wich is a great company to work for, and I recommend it to any college kid trying to make a buck or find something to pass the time.

I would show up at around 11am. The prep crew who have almost 3 hours to get about 45 minutes of work done would still not even be half way done with their work. After scrambling around for about 15 minutes to actually prep the supplies we would need for the day the lunch rush would hit. Of course being understaffed the rest of the day would be determined by whether or not the rush is busy or slow. If slow, the day would proceed as normal. Dishes cleaned, food prepped for dinner shift, tasks done. If however the rush was busy, I could expect staying until at least an hour and a half past my closing time to finish cleaning the store, making back ups for the morning and generally putting the store back together. 

This would be fine, if it wasn't for the fact that I would get cursed out every morning by a woman who cant even speak English, on how poor my store looked in the morning. This meaning I did not complete filling every sauce to the brim, or figure out how many angles could fit on the head of one of our pickles. 

As well as the pay, if you're a college student, that needs above minimum wage, DO NOT GO HERE. You will start out at 8.65 and unless you all but go to a casting couch, you will stay at 8.65 no matter what you are promised will change. 

Generally just a bad place to work.

Working for Which Wich Superior Sandwiches is an ideal job for a high school graduate or a college student. 

Instead of having customers tell you what they want on their sandwich (like they do at subway), they give you a bag with a check list of ingredients they want.  From there you make the sandwich from start to finish, then call out the name of the sandwich written in red sharpie for you.

They provide a black T-shirt and a hat with the company logo as your uniform, with a name tag for you to customize on as long as it's appropriate. Uniform colors are black and blue, however, shift leaders and managers are given different color shirts to show seniority.

Management and staff are very friendly. The staff themselves will treat you as family, but note that every store is different.

Hardest part of the job is time management. You will be given duties that need to be completed at a certain time. Prioritizing your time is key and you will experience multi-tasking working here. Also, you will be given off-work duties like completing online courses (Which Wich University)

The most enjoyable part of the job is making the customers that you've encountered along the way into regulars just because of the service that you provided for them. That deserves a pat on the back.

What can I say? It is your typical minimum wage food service job. Because it's a franchise, the management is going to vary from location to location. A typical day included cutting veggies and portioning out meats, washing dishes, cleaning work stations, and serving customers. At my location, summers were busy since it was in a touristy area. But the off season was slow; so slow that the managers would often cut your shift short and send you home. And when your shift was originally 4 or 5 hours, it's not a good thing when you have bills to pay. So the hardest and most frustrating thing was getting sent home an hour into my shift when I had bills to pay. But my co-workers and managers were easy to get along with, and the owners let us have a free sandwich at the end of our shift. I feel disrespected, though, as they let me go without telling me that they were firing me after I took time off for medical reasons. I understand that these things happen and there is little job security in the industry, but AT THE VERY LEAST, make the effort to contact the employee and let them know that they are being let go, as opposed to locking them out of the scheduling app and hoping they get the hint.

Began very fun but around my 4th month we kept having managers switching in and out. Also almost anyone can become a manager I guess, not even into my 3rd month I was offered a managment position. No one is trained nor follows rules especially CLEANING. I luckily was trained by my coworkers(not shift leads) because they didn't want dead weight. The only shift lead at my store did actually train me and they made a lot of the work easier, however, many other employees like coworkers, managers, owners, and even different located workers were very rude and constantly would ignore rules and instructions. In the end I had fun and made some good friends but with no one being properly trained the work was extremely hectic, when they say you're a team member it's more like you're working every position possible. Also managment does not care if you complain about harrassment because even higher ups have harrassed me and multiple other coworkers. This place needs not new managers but a corporate fix so the "owners" will be more well trained and understanding of the position they hold.

I worked there for almost 2 years just a couple days shy. I was morning crew, always early or on time and stayed late sometimes if no one wanted to. I left on maternity leave a couple days before new years eve, came back and had to be put on evening shifts which are 5-9 pm. She was okay with it but didnt really like it since I was good with the lunch rush and very fast paced. My kids were becoming sick constantly and I lived 22 miles away she didnt like me calling in some of the times bc that means she either had to stay and close or find coverage.  I went in on a Sunday for a 3 hour shift to find the schedule missing, the hid it from me. Qhen I found it I found that I had no hours for the following week. I asked why and her excuse was she needs someone who wants to work. Mind you she had a problem the moment she found out I was pregnant. So instead of calling or texting me letting me know they were not giving me my hours I had to find out thru a text to her which she didnt respond to right away.  I basically told her give me my hours or fire me since you wrote someone in to fill my.hours. I couldn't stand it anymore and just quit. They talk about anyone behind there backs and are very bad about customer service! Oh ya and you dont get paid for maternity leave either.
