This is a small, privately owned hospital. The pay is low, equipment outdated and much of the leadership is overly complacent and unable/unwilling to follow through with changes and solutions to identified problems. This is true even in terms of compliance and projects that would greatly improve patient care. 
The DON knows his nurses are not being trained in some areas or are not following their training and can talk for hours about how he wants to fix things, but doesn’t follow through. Again, the leadership is the issue here. The supervising nurses are all excellent and are dedicated. 
That being said, there are multiple departments that have great leadership but are exhausted from dealing with a hospital administrator who wastes a lot of time micro managing department directors in a way that interferes with their ability to run their departments due to an excess of uninformed, unilateral decisions. 
 This place is in a time warp. I would say it isn’t a bad “for now” stopping place or a bad place for someone who isn’t interested in making a huge difference or has any goals for improvement professionally. It’s a “punch in,work and punch out” kind of place. 
Pay raises are almost unheard of and even a 25 cent raise after years of working there is supposed to be enough, even with positive reviews. People often complain about the pay but say the lesser workload is somewhat compensation for the low pay. Most highly qualified people move on to other places of employment.

this company is the worst. i wouldnt recommend working there or sending your loved one there to anyone. I was so excited to start this job and start making money, but that all changed when I got there and received training for about 2 hours and was then left to fend for myself, as the ONLY housekeeper in the whole entire building. my boss didnt even stick around to show me where the housekeeping closet was. the work environment is stressful and unprofessional. the nurses dont care about their patients and are rude to all the "non-nurses" in the building. you cant go a day without someone saying something about how you do your job. the ad they have posted on indeed for the housekeeping position promotes that they pay $16.50 an hour, they dont. they pay minimum wage for a hard job. the administration is full of liars who only care about themselves. I was pressured into working on a holiday, and the only reason i did it was because my boss told me i would be paid time and a half. well I didnt get paid time and a half so i called someone from administration, she said she would fix it and call me back, this was a month ago and she hasnt called me since. save yourself the waste of time because even if they give you a call back, you probably wont even start working for a month or two considering how slow this whole company runs.

Whittier is great place to work overall. As a therapist, you are surrounded by incredible fellow therapists, and you have the opportunity to work with numerous patient populations, and work in both the IRF and LTAC settings under one roof. Whittier offers good work/life balance and maintains reasonable productivity standards. Compensation is average, although there is limited opportunity for growth due to the absence of a “clinical ladder program” (instead, they offer a bonus program which is unhelpful because there is no carryover from year to year, and the amount of time required to achieve it would pay less than picking up a per diem position elsewhere). Whittier will however help with paying at least a portion of some continuing education courses in many instances, although it you need to request as much. HR leaves a lot to be desired, as they have poor communication, have selected terrible health/dental insurance programs, and minimally hide their attitude that therapists are expendable and easily replaced. For new/recent grads or those not needing to rely on the benefits, Whittier is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in different settings and with a variety of diagnoses, surrounded by a supportive group of motivated fellow therapists!

Where do I begin...
Management is awful - they play favorites and if you're not part of the in-crowd, forget about it.  Management is disrespectful and lacks the ability to effectively manage staff.  They manage by intimidation and threats. 

Management focuses on the wrong issues with regard to employee development - it's a sink or swim approach.  Total lack of training for employees and no opportunities for professional growth and advancement.  If you're an employee who may be struggling, you're shuffled from one position to another.  Again, with little to no training.  When management is questioned about the training model of the company, they become defensive and are not open to suggestions on improving their systems.  

No appreciation for employees.  Yes, they recognize an employee monthly, but it's REALLY a popularity contest.  Hard work is never recognized by management and certainly not awarded/compensated.  Low pay for the crazy ridiculous hours worked.  You'll be lucky to receive a minimal raise if any at all.

Think twice before applying to this company!

Whittier Rehab is a revolving door.  Worked as an office manager and had zero support from my hire ups.  I presented many ideas, thoughts and concerns in terms of the department I was hired to "manage" and it all went unheard.

The staff I was hired to manage were all insubordinate, disrespectful, lacked empathy, professionalism and knowledge of basic duties which were their responsibilities for their specific roles and job titles and upper management enabled this behavior making it difficult to implement new direction, training ideas & change to run a smoother, more efficient department.

I had no training when hired, as the previous office manager left without notice (I see why now).  Thankfully I have always been an employee that can fly solo, who doesn't need direct training, I am great at problem solving and my background and qualifications have allowed me to succeed in learning alone HOWEVER, the expectation from therapists and providers during this time was insane considering that NOBODY had any clue of what their job was or responsibilities or what my specific job entailed and how long it would take for me to be up and running on my own.

Unorganized training methods. Unprofessional environment. First week there I was ready to quit. Very high school drama environment. Never felt such hatred within my first week of being there. There are staff members that have only worked there for their entire lives and it shows. Gossip, drama, etc. It pained me to go in every day feeling that I was being watched , judged, and belittled. Their HR department is a joke- it’s one person ready to retire so instead they have the admin assistant to the head of the nursing department handling most of the HR responsibilities. They are handling the interviews, offer letters, salaries etc. sadly they’re also a huge gossip and have no problem discussing your personal information wother employees. I attended more than one “upper management “ weekly meeting and sad to say I witnessed them spend the entirety of the meeting talking about specific employees they felt were a “burden”.  That’s a nice way of putting it. These weekly meetings were merely an hour of talking about whichever employee they had issues with that week. 

The level of care at this facility was not anything I could ever be comfortable with.  Supervisors undermining nurses’ assessments, doctors ignoring nurses’ judgment, management that is unresponsive when there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Not to mention the two year contract for new grads.  The nurse to patient ratios are dangerous and in no way make it possible to deliver safe and thoughtful patient care, especially during COVID. Add to all that preceptors that have no interest in teaching new nurses, supervisors that would rather sit at the desk and gossip than be helpful, management that never follows through, an outdated facility, equipment that is constantly broken, CNAs asleep in the hallways, the list goes on.  Managements paints this beautiful picture of all the experience and all the opportunities you’ll get as a new grad. All of it is a lie. No telemetry class, no IV class, no ACLS.  Take my advice and wait on another job opportunity. Whittier will offer you a job, they’ll offer anyone a job because they cannot retain staff.  Don’t ignore the red flags. Wait for another opportunity. 

This is a company where the paycheck does not match the job responsibilities.  They are so far behind the times with their technology that it's sometimes very difficult to do the simpliest of tasks to get your job done.  They are always understaffed because most employees are unhappy and end up quitting yet management doesn't seem to care.  They have a revolving door with their new hires. They need to address the fact that they can't hold onto their employees.  Training is very limited and when you ask for help you don't get it and are pretty much left to try and figure it out on your own.  Benefits are offered but they are not that great.  Health insurance has a huge deductible, 401K is not company matched, vacation accrual is okay if you can get your time off approved.  (Some people get lots of time off even when they have no vacation/sick time left, yet others get denied time off when they have it available.)  I gave the job a year hoping it would get better but unfortunately it did not.

They treat CNA’s like nothing at all. And thats everyone. The doctors, therapists, some supervisors, case managers, even nurses. They expect you to do everything and nobody helps out. Only the CNAs help out each other. We are the bottom of the food chain and they will treat you as such. Not only that but it feels as tho when you are working you have somebody breathing down your back. They are so strict with everything here. Supervisors are always threatening you and making you feel small. Any little mistake you make you will get reprimanded for. During the covid crisis, we were promised bonuses until the crisis was over for being essential workers and only got one bonus of $200 and they then said the couldn’t afford to pay us anymore. We barely even get a thank you. Its honestly a headache working there. Its a struggle to get a day off because theyre always so understaffed. We always get anywhere from 6-12 patients, with most of the time nit even getting a break. And on overnight theyre so short they will leave literally one CNA the entire floor by themself

Worked here for a very brief period as Lead Receptionist, The Computer and back office copy machine was always breaking down constantly so you couldn't do the work that needed to be done. I was not trained properly for the job leaving me to figure things out on my own. Co -Workers were friendly people but the upper management staff were very unfriendly and would give you attitude and did not really give me the opportunity to prove myself . Work was always being put on my desk when it busy so I had to fit that in to get it done when they could of just done it themselves. I knew from day one that I was not their first choice I was told initially that the job had been given to another candidate when I called to follow up, Then because the candidate they had chosen did not show up for first day of work I got the call. So overall I would not recommend this job to anyone who was considering applying for work because you will be disappointed.
