When I was working at Immunization department, my day started off with reviewing the sites I had to go out and conduct audits on.  I prepared each morning my folders with documentation that was needed to conduct the immunization audit along with information about vaccines for the physicians.  When I would conduct the site visits, I would spend a minimum of an hour at each location and thoroughly check the immunizations for viability and run immunization reports to ensure that all immunizations that were administered to children were within a specific time frame.  For those sites that were not in compliance, I would have to suspend their vaccine privileges till they corrected the issue(s).  I enjoyed giving feedback to the physicians and staff to ensure that they understood the compliance issues so that they can correct their issues and resume vaccine privileges as soon as possible.  After conducting my site visits, I would return back to the office and review my findings and prepared letters to all of the physicians which included the findings of the audit and information on how to resolve the issues.  I would then hand over my letters to my supervisor to proof read and get approval to mail them out.  Once those physicians corrected the issues, I would go out again to conduct another audit and verify that the issues were corrected and I would reinstate their ordering privileges.  I believe that the hardest part of my job was having to see newborn babies receive multiple immunizations and at times seeing the parents not try to comfort the baby. My co-workers were all simply amazing and cared about the patients needs, which made my work environment easy to work at.  I feel that management was very understanding when it came to staff concerns because they would always hold team meetings to try to get any issues that the staff may have and they tried their best to resolve the issues to the best of their ability.

As a contact tracer, you go into it knowing that it’s not a permanent job, and you’re glad it’s not. It’s a temp job with no benefits. As more is known about COVID-19, the CDC guidelines change to reflect the science and new findings. It frustrates callers and sometimes you have to explain the process. There are days you know you’ve helped someone, and others where people are so frustrated with the pandemic that they take it out on you. I would say that it sounds like a lot of other call center jobs except here you talk to people who’s spouse or child has died from COVID-19. Working for Will County Health Department has been a totally different experience. I have a great manager and work with a great team that is supportive and listens, in addition to answering questions and giving direction. I would continue working at WCHD if I could.

This job requires a lot of traveling and communication. It was very important to be knowledgeable and confident in your work. Communication was key in maintaining good relationships with all facilities. I learned how to test public pools and beaches. I was also trained on how to do a full inspection for all facilities that provided an area of water for the public to swim in. I also learned and worked on the West Nile Virus. I assisted in setting up mosquito traps throughout Will County and had an opportunity to work in the lab testing for the West Nile Virus. My supervisors at the Will County Health Department were very helpful and always available to answer questions and help me through situations that I was unsure of. I have learned so many things about environmental health that I can now implement in the health field.

I enjoy working here, but there is no job security in my position. We are paid just above minimum wage and experience high levels of burnout. Compassion and empathy are only in consideration for the client base that chooses to exercise their personal freedoms and rights. Some things that are stated and undisciplined by employees can be offensive to people in the community and others who work here. However, it goes unchecked if management shares the same views. There were a wave of staff cuts about 6 months into the job and the employees who were cut were blindsided. For a job that was completely rewarding and meaningful in the beginning, I find myself putting my head down and just going through the motions daily.

The day consisted of being busy all day in which, I liked. I learned that the management staff there was not really informative to everyone. The company needs updated technology. Old computers where still in exsistence with this company that should have been disguarded a long time ago. The hardest part of the job was going into the basement to work for a few hours. It was unsafe and unhealthy. I loved going to work to see some of my co-workers and the patients that came in on a regular basis. Just talking to some of them were the highlights of the day, and I really enjoyed working with the Doctors there.

The hardest part of this job is not beable to help someone.
the most enjoyable part is when you  work very hard  to help a person, even when your don't have to,bed bugs to radon kits, I know I have helped one more person.
through my years here I have learned so much. Not only about the different areas the Health Department as but about myself. THat yes I might sit behind a desk, but I have a big hand and mouth that is heard.
Co-workes are just that. I maintain a perfect balance between the good and the bad.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I work for a wonderful department, Family Case Management. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
For me the most stressful part is the drive 35 minutes on I 80.

In my department it is flexible work environment.  The culture is inclusive. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typically I monitor the health care and advocate for children who are in DCFS care.

Great benefits, great people and meaningful work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Adjusting to how governmental jobs work compared to normal jobs.

Amazing and friendly.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Independent work flow and there's always something to be done.

I work from 8:30am until 4:30pm. I learned how to conduct individual and family therapy with children and adolescents. I have learned how to be assess for suicidal and homicidal ideations and have had to make the recommendation for hospitalization. I have had to contact DCFS in regards to situations that have occurred with many of my clients. The most enjoyable part of my job is conducting therapy.

Job purposes are clear. You’re given everything you need to effectively do your job. Nice people to and management to work with. Work hours are 8:30-4:30, and a good portion of the jobs are eligible for the union.
