A typical day at the office for me would be reviewing files and records manually and electronically. Scanning documents and creating electronic folders to store the information. Maintain and update database using Microsoft Excel for administrative, clerical, and financials re: billing invoices, correspondence, weekly reports, bank deposits, vendor payments, payroll, contracts, calendar events, annual audits, and special projects.  I have learned throughout my experience to be of good service to a company by providing leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal communication skills. I am able to work well with management due to my ability to work under pressure with minimal or no supervision while producing efficiency in completing the task given. Co workers would describe me as a team player / leader who always makes sure as a group we prioritize, organize, and collectively complete group assigned projects successfully. The hardest part of the job that I have experienced was not saying no to a client even when I am already swamp with work. However, I am always able to creatively troubleshoot a situation for a successful outcome. I manage and prioritize all tasks given in their order of importance according to the company's guidelines and need to complete them. I also have excellent organization structure,  verbal and written communication skills which I use daily to navigate throughout the day. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing the client is completely satisfied with my work. The verbal confirmation and smile on their face towards me says it all. I am driven in pursuit of this experience always. This is why I am a hard worker, extremely motivated, open minded, dependable, creative, flexible and will always fit in wherever I am needed or may go. Furthermore, to provide continued experience as well as professional quality administrative, clerical, and support services.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working at an AmLaw 100 firm can be challenging due to the fast pace & high expectations Tight deadlines, shifting priorities, and significant client pressures require attention to detail and responsiveness. 
The firm does a great job of promoting a work-life balance and allowing flexibility in your work so while the work may be demanding at times, I still find to have a strong work-life balance.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Wilson Elser is an AMLaw 100 firm, so it is fast paced and demanding at times. The environment is very welcoming and allows for communication across multiple offices locations across the country. Colleagues are friendly, understanding, and all working toward the goal of succeeding.

The Office Administrator in White Plains is somehow in charge of the Paralegals although she just hides in her office and I've only seen her twice and she is unfriendly, even when you start the job. Somehow she is also in charge of the clocking-in system. They are too strict with clocking in and out, if you get stuck in traffic you're screwed and the system docks your accrued PTO time, even if you offer to stay later to make up your time. I don't know how that is legal. Flextime is necessary for working professionals in certain circumstances. They only care about how much you bill the client. The paralegal work was not true paralegal work, it was completely uninteresting, and my skills were not utilized even after repeated requests to work on different items. As a paralegal, be prepared to do no legal work, the job was just gathering medical records. They are not amenable to changes and suggestions, the technology they use is outdated and cannot be changed, and their case-tracking management system hardly exists. When you start, be prepared for 3 days of back-to-back videos that don't really have anything to do with what you'll be working on. They give 1% raises if you're lucky, no matter how hard you work. No bonuses. Medical insurance has a $1,000 deductible if you're just covering yourself which is pretty good nowadays. I was informed by a partner that he had to pull some strings to get me the salary I was at which was the high $60k's.

The work environment is genuinely supportive and team-oriented.  There’s a strong sense of connection and shared purpose, people are approachable, willing to share knowledge, and quick to step in when someone needs help.

I was excited to work for the company, only to discover that the previous receptionist did not want to train me on the mail. Incoming mail was the biggest challenge to learn, given that everyone expects you to know on your 2nd day where everything goes. My boss had went on vacation just a day after I was hired and my work email wasn't even set up. I didn't get any official training until the week after and the front office phone had went out so I couldn't take any calls. That same day I heard my immediate boss talking on the phone about me to someone (She actually used my name) saying I couldn't comprehend the work! I expressed this matter to her boss. Things started getting uncomfortable in the office as too when I had a question I would send out an email and NO ONE would respond back or wait until the end of the day to say "Oh I just received your email". This was the last straw so I decided to end working with the company. I was also lied to about when and how I would collect my check.

This is a truly inviting/inclusive space where you can ask questions and learn every day. From my first day of work people made an effort to learn my name and have remained genuinely kind. I am often thanked for my work even when I am not expecting that to be the case. No one is too important here. There is very little ego. You are never expected to sink or swim. People are clear in their expectations of you and are more than happy to answer any questions to make sure the work is completed correctly. Work life balance actually exists here too :) the benefits and pay are very good, and there are even snacks/drinks in the office to help get through the work day. This is a company that actually wants to see its employees succeed both on the clock and away from the office. I am very grateful to have found this position. 

Every job is what you make of it, and here it is the same. I feel lucky that I have an engaging and collaborative team available to me. I support all offices so there are many different personalities to navigate which can be challenging but also rewarding if you like to make genuine connections with people. The firm and regional managing partners genuinely care about their employees, and as I write this, I am doing it from home because they felt it was too dangerous to have people come into the office during a snowstorm. The partners are consistently trying to make the organization a better place for people to work and trying to give the support and training necessary for all  associates and professional staff to be successful. In the long run investing in your people and resources is the best way to continue success and I currently feel that they do that and I hope that it continues.

Everyone is easy to work with, which makes the environment positive and collaborative. The firm also uses top-of-the-line software systems, which makes the work more efficient and less stressful. Overall, it’s a solid place to build your career and feel supported along the way!

Like any law firm, the work can be fast-paced and demanding at times, especially during busy periods. However, these moments are balanced by a supportive team and flexible management that genuinely understands workload pressures. The challenges help you grow professionally, improve your time-management skills, and build confidence, all while knowing you have the tools, systems, and people in place to succeed.
