Wolverine is a great place to work. There are opportunities to grow and so much to learn however, it can be difficult to balance work life and personal life due to having many emergencies, unexpected events and extensive traveling at great distances throughout the day. There are staff that will help support with managing the day due to the job being very challenging. There could be days that you might not make it home until 10 PM or 11 PM at night due to many urgent appointments and deadlines however, Wolverine will try to compensate your time by allowing you to come into the office at a later time the next day, if you do not have any other scheduled appointments that can't be missed. I've learned a great deal with Wolverine Human Services such as time management skills, thinking outside the box and fast thinking in emergency situations. Problem solving skills are exercised daily due to many urgent matters. 

The hardest part about my job is balancing work life and personal life however, support is provided to help manage this. Wolverine is very understanding to the individual needs of their employees. Communication is key. The most enjoyable part about my job is when children are adopted into great homes and when families are able to become reunified due to the parent or parents completing their treatment plans substantially. It's also enjoyable to see the children that has gone through so much smile due to the services that we provide at wolverine Human Services.

Typical day:  You and your co-workers get publicly humiliated for anything that goes wrong. A bachelor's level CJ person (who has only really ever worked at Wolverine, for real) tries to run clinical treatment and bullies you if push back. Leaving at 10:00 or 11:00 several nights a week is normal. Being on call 24/7 and having to answer the phone at all hours of the night.  Demands to do things way outside of your job description.

Management: Just WEIRD. High turnover unless they've ONLY worked for Wolverine and think what they're doing is normal, and not completely bizarre.  
Workplace culture: Bullying is allowed. You will not get support for any problems that don't directly affect the program manager's reputation. Not a team but a dictatorship. Very, very poor leadership....the worst I've ever seen; but, no ability to be self-reflective about that or to seek out or to accept any actual feedback.
Hardest part of the job: Dealing with "leadership" who have only ever worked at Wolverine and think they're operating like a normal company. Lack of teamwork, and humiliation for making any type of minor mistake. Leadership who makes decisions so obviously NOT in the best interests of the kids. Watching staff get treated like children.
Most enjoyable part of the job: Working with people who "get it" and are in it for the right reason. Having a good laugh with co-workers and coming together to solve problems. Having those "ah-ha" moments with kids and families and seeing the improvement.

A typical day ca starts off as a normal day and end up being extremely stressful to the point you are working past work hours, and they refuse to pay overtime.
I learned a lot from Wolverine but most of what I learned came from the previous higher ups. The new staff does not care to help support. Mainly due to the agency falling apart from the many changes that has happened within a very short amount of time. 
There is very poor management. I had way too many supervisors in such a very short time and the supervisors did not hold supervision or discuss the cases but advised the workers to add supervision in the system even though they did not hold supervision. There was no support from the supervisors or the directors and other higher ups although this was brought to their attention. 
The workplace culture was awful. There was favoritism, gaslighting, passive aggressive behavior from higher ups, and dictatorship type leadership from higher ups.  The turnover in foster care is huge, but this type of environment makes it worst!
The hardest part of the job was getting support when needed. The staff either did not have knowledge of certain things or did not care to help much. 
The most enjoyable part of my job was building rapports with families and having successful outcomes.

Wolverine Human Services presents itself as a beacon of support and care within the community, but behind this façade lies a troubling reality. The environment at Wolverine is one where job security is a mere illusion. Employees at all levels find themselves on shaky ground, with management willing to sacrifice anyone to save face or cut costs. This creates a culture of fear and anxiety, where individuals are left feeling disposable and undervalued. 

While the mission of helping others is noble, it is overshadowed by the toxic practices that permeate the organization. The high turnover not only affects employee morale but also hinders the continuity of care for the clients they serve. It’s disheartening to see such potential wasted in an environment that seems more focused on self-preservation than on fostering a supportive community. 

In conclusion, Wolverine Human Services may present a caring exterior, but the internal realities paint a much darker picture. Those considering employment here should be aware of the high risks involved and think carefully about whether they want to be part of an organization that is quick to discard its most valuable asset: its people.

Wolverine is not a bad company, and there are a lot of great people who work there. Everyone is always willing to help. And it is evident how much everyone cares about our kids and wanting to do what’s best for them. That’s what makes the environment so great to work in. But a lot of the supervisors aren’t trained well enough or are new and don’t know how to be a supervisor just yet so that can affect your work greatly. And they hardly offer to help you. You get more help offered to you by the Director and the Program Manager than you do by your own supervisor. You also have to be able to handle people being rude to you or yelling at you and blaming you for things you didn’t do. It’s a part of the job but that isn’t the hardest part. The hardest part is the work-life balance. This job requires you to manage peoples lives and you have to make yourself available to them at all times in case of emergency. So it’s really difficult being able to do things for yourself when you are constantly doing things for about 50 other people. So this job can be really stressful, but only if you let it. The pay isn’t the greatest, either, but it is manageable.

Unless you have a legitimate dying passion to work in the correctional field, stay away from Wolverine as your place of employment. You go through two weeks of training to use pretty much nothing that you learned. 
Mandated overtime (which is 16 hours with little to no break), getting physically and verbally attacked by clients, the most disorganized management system I've ever seen, and the overall unsafe work environment. The building has a major bug and cleanliness problem. 
Management doesn't care about your life outside of that facility so say goodbye to your friends and your life! You'll never hear a consistent answer from one  supervisor and majority only care for themselves. 
On a postive note, working with the kids and building rapport with them was an upside as well as the pay. If you work enough you'll make some good money but it does come at a major cost. Majority of the kids are very cool and deserve better than what this facility gives them. 
Overall, stay away from this place, you'll see and hear things that will make you want to check in to your own residential facility yourself. 

Typical day is showing up to employees' who don't brief you on the days activity, and most have bad attitudes.  I learned about delinquent, and substance abuse youth.  Co-workers are very territorial, and are not very welcoming to new employees'.  Also they seem to enjoy power struggles with other staff, and the gossip is out of hand.  Management overlooks a lot of criminal activity at the site, such as employees who have hurt children being put into management positions instead of being fired, or simply moved to other camps.  The hardest part of my job was watching or having to be a part of the in human types of activity against the children.  I enjoyed the youth, and learning different things from them, the relationship between myself and the children were strong give or take a few bad apples, and watching those who thought they would never be successful at school graduate and move on.

Everyday you will have to stay over because the next shift is always short or someone is always late. The children are in control and you have no say so anything that children do you will be blamed for even though they know right from wrong. Rules and procedures will be changed however, the children will know before you. Children also have access to staff personal information such as address, phone numbers and etc. the director will not address the situation. The children will also tell lies and you will be suspended or terminated before you are even questioned and investigated. You don't get a personal lunch break you have to eat whenever the children eat. The children also steal and damage personal property. You have no secure place to keep your belongings therefore, the children will try to steal your things. You will be sexually, physically and verbally assulted by these children and you are not allowed to do anything about it. They will also not properly train you.

The juveniles can be stressful to work with but if you’re committed and passionate about working with at risk populations it’s not hard. To see the juveniles turn their life’s around due to part of your role is a great blessing to be witness to. I left because of management and their clinical team. I’m a social work student and this job showed me the ugly to the field. I witnessed therapist belittle and play their clients (the juveniles) against one another; often causing fighting, drama and self harm between them juveniles. There were also too many inappropriate relationships happening and allegations between the various staff (inc those above entry level positions) and the juveniles that are handled very poorly. This job does not pay enough for what you will be dealing with at all.

A typical day may involve fights among residents or a poorly trained staff calling a resident a derogatory name because they are ignorant of the side effects of the medication the resident is taking, or they are incapable of being firm and fair with their redirections to a resident.
I learned that juvenile detention is not about the well being of the youth or their family but a profiteering endeavor. Management of this facility say what you want to hear.
One of the hardest thing of the job was to see the delaying tactics used to maintain maximum residency at the expense of the youth which may involve a false diagnosis, or some from of dysfunctional behavior. Contrary to that is holding group meetings and getting the attention of the youths to analyze their behavior in earnest.
