As a surgical coordinator a typical day at work looks like double checking your teammates work because the technicians are too busy & overworked to do their job efficiently and effectively to get all of the necessary measurements to make sure the patient doesn't have to come in again for additional measurements prior to surgery. The way this employer creates "teams" for each doctor is detrimental to the employees because it becomes very cliquey and the teams act like they're superior to other teams and it creates a toxic work environment. Management isn't equipped to deal with this degree of mean girl atmosphere their business model and culture has created. It often happens that patients are worked into the schedule last minute by concerned optometrists but when patients are worked into an already booked schedule it forces the technicians and surgery schedulers to work overtime and often through lunch with no breaks. It fosters a toxic workplace and mentality that praises those who work tirelessly without breaks and those who don't complain. Oftentimes the teams are working on a skeleton crew because employees are burnt out and don't want to come in, understandably. When a team is understaffed, the already booked schedule then becomes backed up. You can say goodbye to any lunch you thought you were going to be able to eat. Silly me for thinking I'd actually be treated like a valued employee who is able to take breaks and eat lunch so that I can mentally concentrate and do my very important job well. The good news is, if you miss something like an important measurement or test that was needed, management doesn't get mad at you, they simply take it in strides and see how we can rectify the situation and get the patient in for additional testing. Management understands you are overworked and doesn't expect perfection because they know the business model they're up against. However, if this employer would understand the need to prevent mishaps from happening then they wouldn't need to stress about rectifying or keeping each team or doctor happy. Instead, they would have the ability to forecast and take the necessary steps to prevent mishaps from happening which inevitably lead to high turnover which is why you probably see an incredibly amount of jobs open. This company is expanding which is great but there are also lots of detrimental practices they keep up with that will always lead to high turnover and unhappy employees.

This company is VERY UNORGANIZED. There is no training. If you apply and get hired, expect to be thrown in as if you were trained. Literally a sink or swim environment. All the practice managers should be fired. They all have 0 to none experience managing. All the facilities are ran different which causes none of the facilities to communicate well. You have slacker employees and then employees who get dumped on with all of the work. The management, CEO, and “HR” will talk to you however and treat you however. If you apply to this job you will be unhappy like most of its employees. I’ve worked in multiple locations and it’s the same toxic environment for all. no one ever knows what they’re supposed to be doing and management doesn’t either. This is a horrible place to work and I’m really surprised they have not been shut down considering they don’t follow all the legal guidelines to be an open practice. Some of the front desk staff can be helpful however you can tell they’re over working there because everything is dumped onto them. Some of the techs are ok to work with but not all. Doctors talk to the employees however they see fit. 

OVERALL AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST

This is not the place for you if you actually care about patients. Every day is just a numbers game to them and they do not care about the amount of stress that puts on their techs or how frustrated that makes their patients, who then take out those frustrations on the techs. Their home techs are made to work like dogs, somedays having to work through lunch and well past closing due to the company valuing the dollar more than their employees. Many of the doctors are rude, so rude that over the year that I worked with them many of them didn't bother to learn my name or even say good morning back when greeted. There is a hierarchy when it come to techs and the home techs are placed at the bottom of the totem pole and treated as such. If you work here and are offered a position as a home tech just know you will be expected to not only work up more patients than should be feasibly possible but you will also be a gofer to any team that comes into that building and no one will have any respect for your time. Management doesn't care about the employees, their warnings about burn out, their opinions, or concerns. All in all, look somewhere else. 

Honestly I wouldn’t even recommend working at WEI to my least favorite person. 
•Very high turnover which leads to constantly being under staffed. So understaffed I could rarely use PTO 🚩
•Most of the managers are lazy, techs/fd practically run clinic but the managers are the ones getting paid. Most of the managers don’t step in & help when needed 
•Benefits could be better
• You will be asked/expected to take on many roles or work a 2 person job alone but pay isn’t adequate
• No clear structure which makes things unorganized! It’s like multiple private practices operating under one umbrella very inefficient
• Communication is a HUGE problem 
•C-level execs could care less about employees and their wellbeing/mental health/work life balance
•WEI cares more about $$ than its employees or patients (constantly rescheduling them sometimes even the day of or day before, giving patients key information regarding their future care last minute or not telling them at all 🚩

What is the best part of working at the company?
There wasn’t one . Unorganization , favoritism , and sprinkle in subtle racism . Higher ups don’t properly manage 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The people . Again lack of organization . They don’t care another their employees only about bringing in new patients new doctors and more revenue

Toxic , unprofessional, stressful 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
High stress ! Come in hit the ground running and there are problems before first patient even arrives

It’s very sad to see how poorly the employees are treated here. Well not all the doctors treat their employees poorly. Some of the doctors take care of their staff and shows them they are valued and appreciated. They make false promises of room for growth. Management does not have the employees best interest. It is all about money. They have a very poor plan in place for covid. They do not report when there has been a case. They do not inform other staff memebers of any possible exposure. In all the times I have heard of someone being sick I only saw the office being cleaned 1 time. Chairs aren’t cleaned often. Social distancing is not enforced. Very poorly handled. 

Offers job training and help obtaining certification for those interested. Starting to require less travel to different locations and transitioning to home techs. This is helpful to work with different doctors and learn different ways to do things. No longer a button pusher and allowed to use my learning to effectively do my job.  Love how other teams/ techs will jump in and help as needed. 
Company is growing and adding more locations and doctors.  Hard workers have job security and opportunities for advancement.

Working at woolfson eye was stressful, they pay the bare minimum people to do more work than they're capable of and put a bandaid on it by letting you out early a day or two here or there. The employees are nice but management isn't always on top of their P's and Q's but then again that's anywhere you go. 

They really want someone experienced because there's no room for errors and if you make an error, they don't care why or how, they don't want to hear about it, they just want to know it won't ever happen again.

This is by far the worst place to work! Management is horrible bias and prejudice.  Techinicians get away with anything they want  unless you are not liked by the rest of the staff or management. Worked years and years for this place to only get a raise of 15 cents. The managers tell you when you first get hired that there is growth in the company yes there might be but with no pay! Alot of unfairness in the company in general. Racist company ceo and management! Save yourself the headache!

I loved my job at first and i did everything i could to make sure i did my job right but after a while i started noticing favoritism and lack of leadership. Insecurity of work causes stress and not having the availability to grow within the company is a let down. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY IN THE INTERVIEW. Lies is all they tell you when you let them know you want to grow within a company! Do not apply!!
