The job was fine. Work schedule is completely self managed, but monitored by your manager. Managers do come and go about every couple of months. Sadly, the past year, WWTS had to move the technicians from salary to "part time" so we all lost our benefits and PTO. They changed the pay structure to a form of hourly+commission which could somewhat produced a similar pay amount, but truthfully, it was less than before since even if the pay was exactly the same amount, we didn't have benefits so it should have been possible to get more. Unfortunately, since they went to an hourly pay structure, we were only paid when we were commuting to the site, and the time tech was doing the service. We were not compensated for the time we were calling clients (to schedule, make recommendations to prep device for service, answer questions about the service, etc) or any other administrative work (doing training, filling out schedule, speaking to manager, collaborating with tech support ((unless all ready on site)), etc). There are other quibbles, like only being compensated $0.35 per mile, when the federal rate was $0.65, and I probably forgot to mention this but you drove your own personal vehicle to do this job. The reality though was that we were getting less work from our contracts so I cannot really fault WWTS for having to make changes as they could have just fired us all, but that's doesn't change the fact that myself and other techs were literally getting maybe one or two service calls a day which means it's impossible to make 30 hours that week. I will say, my managers did do a good job providing me with support when I needed it, but when things got really bad, their hands were tied because there wasn't always a means for them to assist. I believe the company is badly managed, doesn't provide a competitive wage, skimped on paying for mileage, and in the end, burned a lot of really good people. I personally enjoyed doing my job but I couldn't deal with how little they paid me when I had great surveys and provided really great service to my customers. It really wasn't all that long ago when every tech had nearly 2 weeks of clients scheduled, but that time definitely has come on gone. Be wary, unless corporate makes some big changes to their contracts, that ship could go belly up at any time.

I applied for this job thinking I would get to fix computers independently with minimal overhead. While I was able to fulfill that desire, it came with very little to no available work, incompetent and inconsiderate management and zero desire to care for its employees. After years of working independently on my own business things became difficult for me as it did for most of us living post-pandemic. I needed a second job and the position offered here seemed like a good fit for me. No coworkers, very little overhead and helping people fix their tech.

I went through 2 weeks of onboarding, spent money I really didn't have to purchase equipment needed for the job and was always available on my scheduled days to work here. Within the first 2 weeks, calls ceased to come in. I asked my manager about this, to which they replied "it's slow right now". You just hired me and several other people because it's "busy" and within 4 weeks all the work dried up? Okay, weird. 

4 months into this job, I have worked about 25 calls. This is ridiculous when you consider how little they compensate. I was told by a senior tech that trained me that they average 8-10 calls per week. I have done 25 or so in 4 months. 

There are almost entire months that have gone by that not a single call is assigned to me. Weeks on end asking why there is no work to be told the same story of "it's slow in your area right now" and even instances of aggressive and rude responses. Imagine your boss getting ticked off at you because you are asking for more work. Yet the headlines all across the country will echo chamber that no one wants to work any more. Unreal.

I have wrecked my day to day life by incorporating this job into my week. It has actually cost me money to work here. Between the miles on my vehicle, equipment purchased and instances I've had to return to a location more than once because I was given the wrong part, all the money I've earned from this job was used to pay for the job itself... There is ZERO profit to be earned by working here.

As others have said, I think this company is going under. Avoid them at all cost, unless you are desperate to break into IT or tech repair. You're basically paying for training by working here. They do not care about you.

Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, you get PTO, you get holidays off. 

Like meeting new people everyday?  Good at fixing laptops, desktops, and servers? ( if you're a L3 engineer) you could finish work by 1, and still clock for 8 hours.

I absolutely love working on computers, so this job is easy for me. but not everyone will see it that way. thankfully, the support you get from them is top tier .

You're for sure going to drive Hundreds of miles per week, Which is going to wear out your car fairly quick. last time I checked, .43 cents per mile you drive. and only half of what you drive is paid on returns from a ticket. There's no system/support in place to cover for your car if damage happens. and your usual "wear & Tear" parts are all on you. they don't help/reimburse you for the three sets of tires, or the two sets of bearings (this is what I've gone through so far). or anything for that matter. They make sure you have Mid-Level insurance prior to work. there's hardly any communication from anyone above your direct supervisor aside from the occasional email. and 9/10 times, I feel alone. 

My typical day: I wake up around 8:30 check my work phone for tickets, make coffee, eat something, leave my house around 9:30 to my parts ticket (my parts are at a FedEx, so it's gotten to a point where the staff know me by name). I drop off my used parts, get my receipt, and pick up my new parts. then I get in my car, and call clients based on the tickets I get. if one is available, I drive to them, fix their computer, then get in my car, and repeat.

Also, If the company is struggling. be prepared to wake up in the morning and realize you've been laid off. This happened to a couple managers, and a lot of techs, even new ones that were just hired. luckily, I didn't, but it makes me want to reconsider this as a career, Just being honest. 

As for pay. I'm making 18 an hour. L2s I believe get 15, and I have no clue what a L1 makes.

Overall, I love what I do, But It sucks driving over 30 miles for a repair.

Day to day at any one time we had over 4 managers involved in everyone's job. The company does have it's good points but they are outweighed by the bad. 

Those who worked with WWTS excluding the management were what kept the company going. On a regular day when calls were assigned you are expected to be on the road by a predetermined time. However, the preparation for the service calls you had that day were dismissed as not a critical component to do the job. So no time to map out locations, no time to physically check your equipment or van, and if you had the time you did it off the clock just to meet the out of office set departure times. 

What made this worse, were the multiple companies WWTS contracted with all expected the same thing at the same time. They expected to be first on their list and WWTS gave them the false belief they were by giving them the opportunity to set and schedule service times for their calls. Unflinching, this conflict then caused turmoil in the morning and then for the rest of the day. Calls you spent getting ready to run that morning or worked on the night before would have been pushed off to someone else. There was no opportunity to speak with the other technicians and download to them what you knew about the call if you had been there before. It was just a get and go rampage. 

Do not get me wrong. In the service industry you do have the bread and butter client that pays the bills. You also have some management staff that understood this, however, like us their hands were tied. If you had a good manager, when possibly they would try their best to assist you with these issues. Unfortunately, in the years I worked for WWTS (7) I had (8) managers.

I am going to stop here. I really don't like talking about a company like WWTS for I am sure they meant well. The old saying goes, to many Chiefs, not enough Indians, and the same fixed salary for over 25 years.

I like WorldWide Techservices (formerly QualXServ) at first because they were a web portal that i could get local jobs supporting Dell warranty desktops and laptops. I was told I only had to accept what work I wanted and that if I only wanted local jobs it would be fine.

Soon after I realized they wanted to push 10 jobs on me each Monday to schedule through the week. Which would have been fine, but then they would push me 3-5 more almost every day. I had to contact each customer and work with them to schedule a repair day. I'm sure anyone can imagine the ensuing nightmare this created for me. I was also told if I started refusing jobs it would look bad on me. Some of these jobs began requiring 2.5 hours of travel time to schedule in with 5+ other jobs in that day.

Fuel reimbursement was very little to nothing in 2008-2010.

I received $40.00 USD per repair, which was decent steady money, never a problem with payout.

My manager was great, but couldn't back me up on the amount of jobs pushed to me, and after I work super hard for them could not get me a company vehicle and gas card to keep me. Imagine paying all that expense by yourself and knowing other employees got a company van and gas card.

The scheduling was an absolute nightmare with the amount of jobs that were pushed to me. I would typically get home @ 9PM after a full day, and still had to enter in my jobs on the web-portal.

I think of my time at WorldWide Techservices as one of the most stressful times in my life.

The best virtual company experience I have ever had.  They didn't start out as what looked like a good experience.  As the company evolved and they grew and took on new customers it quickly became a wonderful place to work.
A typical day at work was never too busy for me.  I would check the work orders on line and accept them based on how correct they were.  I would coordinate with the end user based on the parts availability and schedule the repair around what worked best for the 2 of us.
I was required to keep up with the latest certifications for Dell, IBM, Lenovo, Sony, HP, Apple and Lexmark.  The real learning was on site in front of the customer but the manuals were all available and it was great being able to educate myself prior to the repair.
Management was non existent.  I never meet any of the management face to face as none of them were in the state of Hawaii.
In the beginning I was sent a senior tech from Oahu to help get me going and figure out the online software.  After the one day experience, the only other time I met other techs was when I came up on a unit that I had not been certified on.  In the 4 and a half years working with WWTS I only met 3 employees face to face.
If you are a self starter and enjoy helping people through their rough spots with computers, this is a great place to be.  The only down side is that even though you are reviewed yearly and don't mess up, but showed that you where a valuable asset to WWTS they never increased the salary.  I found that to be unbelievable in today's economy.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Am retired now, was field tech working (in theory) on PCs, laptops, printers, cash registers, and TVs. Install, setup, and repair. Reality was 99% was warranty repair of Dell, HP, IBM and Lenovo laptops. (How often do you drop your cash register?) I liked the work and liked meeting new people, most of whom were friendly and appreciated my being there.  Company generally good to work for.  Mostly self directed, a lot of driving, seldom took lunch. WWTS monitors techs through phone ap, one time I had driven for 4 hours, stopped at a Walmart to use bathroom, bought one of their packaged salads and was eating it out in the parking lot, noonish.  Supervisor called and acidly asked why I had stopped. But in the 3.5 years I had worked for them this was the only time they managed to annoy me.  I am getting bored and running out of projects around the house, have considered asking them if they could use some part time help. Except Lenovo, I VERY much don't like trying to fix them!!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The crazy driving, averaged 250 miles a day. I once drove (round trip) 470 miles to replace a PC power supply. And with Laser printers I seemed to often get people who had them installed in very crowded and poorly lit places with shag rugs!! 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Okay, as I mentioned this is field tech job. Other than a weekly call in meeting not much personal interaction.

The training provided is inadequate, with minimal on-the-job training. The company claims that 1 or 2 job shadow sessions are sufficient to learn how to disassemble and reassemble the hardware of the devices you're assigned to work on. Unfortunately, this approach leaves employees underprepared for the practical challenges they face.
Additionally, compensation for the work we do is below the U.S. average. Based on industry data, the average salary for similar roles is approximately $56,743 per year, or $23.18 per hour, while the pay here falls short of that benchmark.
Mileage reimbursement is also significantly below the U.S. average. The company reportedly compensates around $0.33 per mile, which is far below the IRS mileage rate of $0.70 per mile for 2025.
Another issue is the inconsistency in the work order flow for technicians. I've read from multiple sources that some technicians receive as little as 8 hours of work in a single week. This inconsistency not only affects financial stability but also impacts job satisfaction and growth opportunities.

This might be a good starting point if you're seeking a place to gain hands-on experience and break into the IT industry while building connections that could help advance your career. However, you may want to explore other opportunities if you're looking for a long-term role with competitive pay.


Great work environment with the tools and the parts needed per job per people per area. Companies that you work for that were agreed to with world wide tech in parts as needed. So I always had parts and always supplied the information you needed to fix the system on site. The customer may not have given them all the information that does not mean that the company didn't do their best to fulfill what was needed. The only issue and the main issue that I had was with management; my manager did not like it when you had to do a job that was outside your area, my area was the Northeast side of the state and not the southern part of the state or the western side of the state and when I drove over 600 miles an I did not get paid for the job, because I have had to pick the parts up and the southern part of the state which is more than halfway through the state then drive all the way back up to the northwestern side of the state.  He called said that I had went out of my area and that I was not getting paid for it so no that was the first biggest issue. The second one was as a penalty because I had done such a thing was to deny me work for 3 months because my car was in the shop at that point;  I quit at that point. For the record had 100 % on my jobs.

I was hired on with WorldWide Techservices right as a large backlog of repair tickets started to flood area markets. I was met with a trial-by-fire style of training due to the other area techs being out. I quickly learned I am the beholder of my schedule, I control it and make how my day goes. Use of my own personal vehicle with paid mileage was a nice perk to me, as I am most comfortable in a car I know deeply, and thus I was not limited at the end of my days to return a work vehicle home or to an office. The pay and upper management structure as of 09/2023 has changed, it has seemed that in order to cut costs they have moved a significant portion of their full time technicians to “Dynamic” roles which is just a fancy working for this now being part time, and they are not required to provide insurance benefits. The CEO took a $10,000,000 bonus in the fiscal year of 2022, but they can’t afford to keep technicians full time due to their perceived “area volume” issues. Senior management does not listen to the supervisors of technicians and will commonly talk down to technicians on company wide conference calls. I used to love this job, now I’m just here to survive.
