My first year was pretty good, it was definitely the best place I had worked so far. I met great people, learned more about credit unions and banking, and just what WPCU would do for their members. An Assistant Manager from another member center took a little time out of her day to help me get more comfortable with counting money, especially when a random $50 is there in the amount, something no one else had noticed or thought to help me with. My Assistant Manager was good, he cared about us and it showed. Everything turned sour when he moved on to a new position at the Corporate offices, and a new permanent assistant manager was hired. 

Right from the start, the new Asst Mgr had favorites, preferably ones who had banking experience before WPCU. If you had questions or issues you asked her about, you did something different from her way (but still in line with the Credit Union guidelines) you were wrong. She caused one Financial Coach (FC) to eagerly transfer to another branch, another FC also left for another branch as well to be a temporary Assistant Manager until they could find a new one. Not long after that, we had a senior teller, or MER, who took "early retirement" because she wasn't happy with her. Several FCs and MERs took positions at other branches as soon as they could to avoid working directly with this Asst Mgr. 

If she doesn't like you, you'll be able to tell. Even once certain things had been put into places to help make everything better for everyone, it was still horrible. Any changes that were made that made things better, lasted about a week, maybe two, before they were back to how they were. 

After several incidents, a lack of desire to go into work, and just overall for my mental health, I left when I was offered an internship that was inline with what I was going to school for. I had no idea just how much stress and weight I was carrying around with me until I left. Everyone around me noticed a change immediately. 

Overall, I liked WPCU as a company, as a credit union, and a good career starter. I learned a lot that will help me with my career going further. It has helped me to know what I should look for in an Assistant Manager, Manager, or anyone that I will have to report to in the future. Would I personally work for WPCU again? If I were eligible, probably not.  I'm not eligible for rehire as my resignation gave 13 days notice and not their required 14 days (because she wasn't in the day before). I would recommend it to someone although I'd tell them to stay far, far away from the Springfield, OH member center.

This is the second worst experience I’ve ever had with a job. It is constantly busy, back to back at least 80 calls a day and while the pay is good (starting, the raises are a joke), you are held to an extremely high standard. There’s not much room for human error. If you do not say things word for word as they want, your quality score goes down. Very Corporate micromanaged, you are watched & heard every second of every day, and good luck having a life outside of this place. There is ZERO work life balance & if you’re not planning +1 month in advance you can expect to be denied your requests because “they’ve reached capacity” of requests for said week(s). This includes for a doctor’s appt, or anything. You can’t even switch shifts with someone unless you’re a psychic & make that day up the same week, before you even know you need it. You are basically forced to take the points & hope for the best. I’ve never seen anything like it. 

So many partners are so rude when you have to call them. Extremely disrespectfuI, there is no support. Everyone always sounds so miserable & like their energy is drained. Or sometimes, just snobby & think they’re better than you. I go about my day, do my job, & keep to myself for this reason.

They have ok benefits but I feel they’re expensive (Single, no kids) & the plans don’t cover meds that well I still use GoodRx to fill my prescriptions but pay $100 a paycheck for a PPO plan! This place is way overhyped. Many people employed here, this is their first “real job” & the company takes advantage of that. Thankfully this was not my first real job. I would say the best parts of my day is talking to my members, which I do enjoy but lately they have been cruel. MOST members are kind & just want assistance 

Great if you want to get your foot in the door for Financial though, I will say I have learned many things & skills I can utilize during my time here. It’s just not for me.

There is a concerning lack of professionalism and diplomacy within the management ranks, specifically among direct managers and senior-level leaders with 6+ years of tenure. A major contributor to this issue is a visible competency gap; many of these long-term leaders lack formal education or a diploma beyond high school.  In the Business Control Analyst role, you are tasked with managing complex risks, yet you are often reporting to leadership that lacks the academic foundation and strategic communication skills required for such high-level functions. This results in a "command and control" management style that is often dismissive, abrasive, and reactive rather than collaborative. At WPCU, it appears that longevity is frequently prioritized over modern professional standards and higher education credentials.
Advice to Management:
WPCU needs to align its leadership requirements with industry standards. Seniority should not exempt a manager from the necessity of a college degree or specialized professional training. Management should focus on recruiting and retaining leaders who possess both the diplomatic skills and the educational background necessary to handle sophisticated business  controls.




A typical day was getting your pc up and running to get ready to log on to the program used to do transactions. The call volume can be high depending upon the time of the month. If you log off for anything including going to the bathroom, you must announce it.  Your time card must match the main the log on time for  program you use all day. If it takes you 20 minutes to get everything up and running before logging in to that program, you do not get paid for that time you are technically working. You are not allowed to log off to complete leaning courses. You must do them between calls. Which means, you will not learn anything. Prepare yourself to be micromanaged and  before I left grew increasingly worse, with the newly promoted manager, who was terrible.  Be expected to hound members about additional products and services. Also, be prepared  to hound nonmembers there to pay their rent about applying for a mortgage.  You will get points deducted from your coaching if you do not. Be prepared to have points deducted for any and all dead air and  not maintaining eye contact with the member while you are also researching their account. I guess grow another set of eyes. Before I quit because working  there was toxic for my health, the management had gone down hill. You learn quick that you have to be friendly and more friendly with middle management to get any movement, extra responsibilities or a promotion. That is the only people I saw get any of the above. So yeah, you could say favortism is a pretty big deal. Professionalism is non-existant. Management gossip and talk poorly about other employees. There is nothing enjoyable about the job, It is a job. 

Do NOT waste your time working here.  The training gives you nothing to work with. You are  PUNISHED for hold time. You are PUNISHED for call length. You are PUNISHED for not following a script. Promises of WFH never were fulfilled. Promises of job shadowing were never fulfilled. You must take tests ALL the time and are not given time to take them so you must take them on your lunch or break. Studying for pay grade tests is on your own. A three-hour test was scheduled for me and I was never told it was coming. Your job growth is based on if you are in the "in crowd". My manager was MIA and did 1:1s with me via video even though her desk was 10FT away from me and mostly they were about her family, and her problems AND she often disclosed and discussed other employees' health issues with ME! That is against the law! This 'bank' preys on the poor, giving loans to people that they KNOW cannot pay back; only to collect fees for their profit.  They have weak online security, there were whole days in December when all I dealt with was compromised account after compromised account. You are made to pay to wear jeans, even if you are not customer-facing, Christmas decorations, logo tees, and parking spots close to the building are all sold to the employees too.  Just.....STAY AWAY! 

Working in the call center was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a job. The calls are nonstop at least 60-70 calls a day. Once I started taking calls I realized a lot of the calls I took had to do with things we didn’t learn in training. I hated to ask for help because majority of the other employees in different departments always had a nasty attitude or sound annoyed with you asking for help. If you don’t follow the call script exactly how you should you were penalized on your scorecard. Also if you left the member on hold for to long you would get “coached” on it. Majority of the time my hold time was long because when I would call to ask questions they wouldn’t know the answer either. If you need a day off you would have to plan it months in advance. My aunt died and I needed the day off, it was a week in advance and they denied me. I ended up having to call off to attend my own aunt’s funeral. The worst part is she also worked for Wright-Patt at a branch. I truly believe a lot of employees working in the call center are miserable but overlook it because they either enjoy the pay or enjoy working from home. I will say they have good programs and benefits as well as keeping the employees engaged with events. I appreciated everyone I met but this job just wasn’t for me.

Manager will let you go the day before your scheduled last day with a smile on their face and no remorse. 

Welcome to a company that cares more about their members than their partners. Don’t get me wrong, the job is painfully easy. And at times, can be enjoyable. But honestly , I would look elsewhere if possible.

So for my position, I was part of the travel pool. So I had to travel to different locations every week. You do get incentives regarding travel and that’s the perk. But you can be contacted in as little as 30 mins before your shift for a last minute location change. No matter how you’re feeling about it, you are demanded to go where you’re told. 

Management is very wishy washy and barely care about your mental health. Some if not most of the management will NOT help you on the front lines if things get busy. Just suck it up and figure it out. Oh and watch out for the angry members that might spit at you. 

Certain member centers give members special treatment, like not checking their IDs all the time. So when you ask, you may get a dirty look and just get yelled at just because you don’t know their name and social by heart. Management will let these members walk all over you. 

Depending on which member center you were working at, a typical day could either be a very easy day or an incredibly stressful one.  The need for staffing, and lack thereof, more often than not led to a very stressful workplace for all involved.  Especially for management as they would find themselves unable to fully complete the tasks of their role because of filling other roles within the member center.  

As a very member focused company it was refreshing to work for someone that was not forcing sales on their members or unattainable goals for their partners.  The lack of sales goals and flexibility with the members was a pleasant experience.

Their management system needs a lot of work as there was a noticeable lack of support from those above you.  Coaching, communication and the willingness to work with you months before any potential issues made it frustrating when mistakes were made that could have been avoided if the proper coaching and teaching took place.

Coming from a very sales focused and operational company I learned more about serving the member and not the company and how to look for those grey areas that served everyone's best interest.

I was a pipline employee for about 8 or 9 months and it was not bad you gor reimbursed for your miles and got to view different centers. I then was asked to be placed in a member help center and I was unaware that I had the option to stay in the pipeline with out being fired because they made it seem as the opposite. I was placed there and there was a new manager who was from a different bank who didn't really know anything about wright patt and it was not the best and seemed all over the place. I worked during covid and my member help center was one of the few that were open and they changed things daily and had a lot of rules we had to follow. We only received one bouns which was highly taxed through the whole virus while multiple members were upset with the new rules and then months later they gave us a bag of snacks and "incentives" for our work. We wanted money. Then I put my two weeks in and was planning on working until my last day until my manager called 30mins before my shift to tell me I was put on admin leave because my goodbye email was not approved? Mind you this same manager saw me the day before and didn't say anything to me? I think the company as a whole was good, just not my specific manager.

I felt good my first day, it seemed like a really great place to work. They were all about culture. I floated for the first 6 months, which wasn't terrible, the float pool manager at the time was cool but there is NO work life balance at this company. I worked 830-730 most weekdays and worked most Saturdays. They like to make sure you spend MOST of your life there by making you work 12-7 or something so you didn't go over on hours. Even though it was possible to work 40 hours in 4 days, they preferred to stretch it to 6.  When Covid happened, they shortened the work day by an hour but I still felt like I was there more than I was home. When I settled into a permanent location, it got worse. From being micromanaged, gossipped about, improperly trained, management not communicating policies or procedures yet disciplining you for not following them. I could go on. It's all about who you're friends with if you're looking to advance. Most of the managers are clueless about everything except when it comes to exactly what time you logged in to your computer. They make you get a bank account here and your manager will look at it and question you about your whereabouts based on your debit card usage.
