A typical workday:
A typical workday will always be inconsistent. Teams are constantly changing (which can be a good thing when considering opportunities for yourself). Management is very scatterbrained and seems to have VERY different opinions

What you learn:
This is a chance to learn about the manufacturing industry - I personally picked up a lot of lingo and got a chance of a lifetime to work with some really large companies. It was one of a kind experience to pick up on how to work with different engineers, designers, and manufacturers all in one place. 

Culture: 
Workplace culture is tight-knit. There tends to be a family sort-of feel within teams but larger politics being played out in the company. Again, there seem to be a difference in opinions that cause large rifts between employees and management. There is an overall unhappiness that seems to carry through the company that everyone broods in constantly. It is consistent with these traits: 

- Lack of critical and USEFUL feedback. Where/Whenever feedback is given - it is often personal and it is felt like an attack. This often comes in the form of uncontrolled, random, outbursts that hurts morale 
- Minimum praise from managers for hard work
- A trend that is being set that overtime = good/useful employee. It was looked down upon for employees that go home after their 8-9 hours of work. 

Overall, the hardest part of the job was to keep up with changes.  The most enjoyable part was making the connections/friends.

Be ready to be ground down.  The workload is massive, especially considering the pay.  My typical day started with emails/texts by 7am, clocked in by 8am, shove down some food around lunch to get prepared for meetings, work until 6 to 7 pm with texts and emails until 8-9pm, daily.  Even my vacation usually required remote logging in from the beach 2 to 4 times per day to deal with issues.  Some Saturdays, usually you needed to work some on Sunday just to prepare for the week as well.  I wasn't even a manager.  Oh and if you do something great, you'll get some thanks, but if you do something wrong, you'll be dragged over the coals.  

When you get hired you think the pay is good, then you realized with all the hours and stress you are dealing with, you could have just been a barista for the same hourly rate considering how many unpaid hours you work at Xometry because you are salaried.  

Personally, I don't recommend working here.  You are nothing more than a slave to the job and while there is room to move up, that just means more pressure and workload.  

Xometry overall is a great experience. They have a service that customers highly value and you get to help the top engineers in America source their toughest parts. It is very fun to feel connected to the most cutting edge projects in the country. The pay is generous and the company really loves its salespeople, gives lots of support, and wants you to make money. The only major negative is that the sheer volume of business opportunities is overwhelming and tough for the company to manage internally at times. 80% of the time the AI gives a quote and you can close the deal, but 20% of the time it has to be manually reviewed which is a dicey and unreliable process. It can certainly be fixed though and the company is always open to ideas. Overall, this is a great place to work and everyone is cool and low drama. It is not a very political environment and business comes first always. 

Worked here about 30 days. First day on the job, manager was late. I had no computer or set up. Took 4 hours to just get necessary items to work from. I mean, you knew when I was starting….then I got a “log in and told look around at our programs we use.” The second day manager spent 15 minutes with me then acted disgusted if I asked questions about my job. I did pretty much nothing the first week. Second week they moved me to help in thier shipping department. Ended up learning more about other jobs then what my role was to be. Kept being told “ we will get together and go over what we want you to do” but that kept getting put off by manager saying “ I’m busy, to much going on,etc” so I pretty much got paid for a month to do pretty much nothing or was a fill in for other areas. I feel like my manager did the same thing. He didn’t do much of anything. 

I have been with Xometry for over a year now. Hard work is definitely recognized and high performers are quickly given opportunities internally. I’ve seen many colleagues move up the ranks in a short time based on their contributions.

The pace here is fast, which means there’s never a dull moment but I realize that's not for everyone.  I personally thrive in an environment like this! The projects are engaging, and the challenges keep you on your toes. It’s a place where you can really push your limits and develop new skills.

Workload can be intense at times so making sure you are balancing that with your personal time.  

I worked for Xometry for almost 4 years. In that time I found solace in a really solid group of colleagues who supported me and made work fun. There is zero opportunity for advancement, so unless you are content staying where you are for a long time, I would steer clear. Definitely a stressful place to work with lots of political land mines to navigate around. The “bottom line” is the only concern of management and  if you don’t earn your keep (and then some) you will be gone in short order. Company culture is non-existent but the pay and benefits are good. You have to decide if pay and benefits make up for daily misery in the form of unreasonable expectations and overall political nonsense. Would not recommend and would never go back.

The incompetent leadership constantly adding and changing things without actually fixing a problem 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Incompetent people seems to last the longest and never get asked to do anything additional. The people that do their job will be rewarded with additional work to do and face criticism  when they realize the overtime aint always worth it 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Micromanaged and told to do double the work

I worked at this place for about a year. The pay was good,the benefits are nice, and there a lot of chances to get a raise. The coworkers I had were the best part being there. The biggest problem I had was with how upper management treats this department. When it comes to errors, even if it's not our fault, we are the first people to blame. When we hand off something to another department and it goes missing, we're supposed to find it for them. If something gets damaged by a carrier in transit, we didn't pack it good enough. We would get so much stuff to receive to the point that there's nowhere to safely walk because of how small our work area is. All of these problems have been told to management, and nothing changed. 

Xometry is a soulless heartless company that only cares about making money.  They work their employees to the bone and then expect them to work even more.  The work life balance is non existent because they expect you to give your life and soul to them and at the end of the day they would step over your dead body and hire your replacement the same day. Upper management is pure evil and heartless.  They only want to protect themselves and make money.  Nothing else matters to them.  Upper management is a pack of liars and wanna be politicians. Policies and procedures are changed on a whim to suit whoever is talking. There is little to no consistency with anything.  If you value your soul and integrity don't work here.

Your day will grind, sometimes the work will be fun and rewarding. Most of the time there is so much work you will not have to actually engineer anything correctly. I felt as if i became an "email forwarder" with china. 

When I did actually try to engineer and give suggestions based on my experience I was hired for, I was quickly shot down and belittled by our COO whom could not keep his hands out of our work. COO has no idea how to treat employees, but would love to talk about his accomplishments 50 years ago. I have never worked for anyone like this in the past and will do a better job in the future of interviewing my prospect employers.
