YETI

YETI is consumed with a toxic work culture fueled by cancerous senior leadership. The arrogance and insecurity of its leaders has bred a culture of fear and and distrust. 

The HR Leader promises a landing place for careers, but will not allow employees in certain working groups or business units to move. Also until the recent layoffs no employees were able to be promoted to Director level. 
Because there is no visible material performance review for compensation or promotions employees are forced to result to politics.
The comments in previous reviews regarding pay are true. YETI does not have competitive salaries for the industry or Austin. 
The HR leader visibly struggles to connect with the employee body and appears to base her value from Glassdoor scores (as seen on the careers page). There is a large element of inauthenticity in every interaction and address to the company. 
She also created her empire of an underwhelming Director level that serves as her own personal cheer squad as she is visibly insecure. 
The fix for unhappy employees at YETI is to simply get rid of them. 
The HR team speaks of culture and core values, but this exclusive group does not in any way reflect the culture that made YETI successful. 

The sales leader has a weak understanding of selling in this industry. Not having any background in this industry his arrogance has changed the way YETI relates to its customers. He behavior is very much that of a used car salesman. Bragging about himself and ensuring he establishes dominance as a male of the 70s would. 
If you are looking to join as a salesperson in any capacity know that you will be forced to implement a selling technique that is not effective in this industry. As far as the leadership decisions for wholesale customers and sales leaders within the business unit. The senior leader likes “YES” people regardless of their skill level or leadership capacity. 
Seek out your local YETI dealer and ask them about the relationship with YETI.

The CEO that lacks the appropriate experience and maturity for one of the most innovative and recognized companies in the industry. 
His lack of answers to simple questions, hollow and cheap statements about caring for employees are visible in every address to the company. More recently reflected in his decisions  for “Covid” related layoffs then immediately hiring for  and promoting middle and upper management. 
His decisions on building out the leadership all reflect his values. When hiring: Pedigree over experience. Shown when the CMO did not last a year. 
The lack of experience compounded with true intentions of positioning the company for a better stock price has caused a strong brand to stray away from it’s core and degrade YETI’s original product mission which was investing in quality and innovation. 
Due to the insecurities of the leadership the company is underperforming with constant micromanagement and lack of focus on true business priorities. 

YETI is a great place to work! The work environment is very laid back and casual; no suit, no tie, no problem. Everyone in the office has YETI's best interest at heart and are constantly striving for improvements in business processes to make our day to day lives easier at work. We're a fast growing company, and things get hectic around here from time to time, but everyone is really easy to work with and keeps in mind that we all have the same goal. 

I started last summer, and we're starting to get large enough that there is a level of middle management between employees and the executive team. However, while that level of middle management exists, the executives all have a very open door policy. I'm in the accounting department, and specific to my department, our CFO is always willing to take a few minutes to talk to you about any concerns you have or answer any questions you may have. If he's busy at the moment, he's great about coming by your desk as soon as he can to follow up.

I will say the pay is not the greatest in the world. However, the benefits are good, and YETI is constantly holding employee appreciation events and team building events to build morale...everything from company-paid small group lunches with the executive teams to occasional afternoon team outings to the laid back and very casual work atmosphere that allows for a frosty beverage or two on Friday afternoons in the office. In fact, two weeks after I started, YETI was in the middle of launching one of our newer products, the Tank, and we got to take a Friday off to float the San Marcos River for "product testing" purposes.

All in all, this is a great job, and I could not have lucked into a better first post-college corportate type of job.

I had the benefit of being hired for a brand new retail location and was apart of the opening team. Generally, the job was very straightforward and enjoyable. I had great coworkers, the customers were very nice (of course we had our fair share of weird/rude people), and the product was very easy to sell based on the fact that most things are very practical for a daily basis.

Management is where the issues begin to rise, specifically when you reach the Store Manager level. Our Store Manager did not get along with the team and remained a toxic presence throughout my time there. They were poor at leading, customer and associate interactions, and would micromanage with a condescending tone that would only discourage my fellow associates.

Multiple associates have brought up concerns to HR and the DM but, as of writing this, there has been no action taken. One could only assume that upper management is afraid to let go of an SM so that they can avoid going through the process of finding a new one, so they would rather let the team suffer under the "leadership" of the current SM.

Other than that, and aside from a few strange decisions made on the corporate level, the job was still a good experience due to everyone else being a great team member and still maintaining a welcoming environment.

We work hard and we play hard but as we grow, we don't want to lose sight on what makes YETI Coolers a great company.  That’s why we have created the Culture Committee.  It’s a group comprised of one member of each department.  They meet weekly to dream up fun ways to keep our growing YETI team feeling like a family.  They have hosted ping pong tournaments, movie days at the Alamo and even “product-testing” tubing trips. 

It's a very team oriented environment and the executive team is always on hand and available, very much present in the office and approachable.  They make quick decisions, which means things move fast around here and are always changing.  You're able to see an immediate impact on the business. 

The perks of working at YETI Coolers include paid time-off and holidays, paid maternity leave, and a relaxed atmosphere.  Jeans and a trucker hat are standard work attire.  Employees have their choice of a stand-up or seated desk (just about everyone is standing).  We offer free fly-fishing lessons, a ping pong table, the constant temptation of Tiff’s Treats in the break room, an unlimited supply of “Sonic Ice” and of course free YETI swag upon arrival!

I worked temporarily there through a hiring agency. To be honest, we were trained pretty quickly and I felt a little under prepared but we had a lot of help and support along the way. it was a lot of self training. I've never worked a job before where all employees and managers were so helpful and really cared about the employees. They have their policies but i watch them consistently make their customers happy. 
I answered about 20 calls a day and in between calls I voluntarily took email cases. Most customers are nice but expect to have a few difficult customers here and there. Not gonna lie, customer over the phone can be pretty rude but I truly enjoy making someone's day. 
All in all, this company is truly amazing. I have definitely became a YETI fan and have bought several of their products already ! They truly have great customer service and great products. If you're thinking about applying or accepting this position, do it!!!

Yeti is growing exponentially each year. This is a fast-paced work environment where everyone is expected to pitch in. This is an excellent place to grow and learn. This is an open concept office and can be distracting. However there are small "huddle rooms" if you need a quiet space to work. Even with the fast-paced work, the vibe around the office is very relaxed and casual. Jeans and a t-shirt are appropriate to wear in the office. The office is brand new and has lots of amenities like a full-service coffee bar, cafeteria, gym, and outdoor seating area. Yeti offers great paid vacation and even allows you to take a paid day off to volunteer in the community.

The only negative about Yeti is the lack of diversity in leadership. This is the epitome of the corporate glass ceiling.

The fast paced environment at Yeti Custom shop meant being ready at all times. Their two main priorities were quality, and accountability.  It was also of great importance for their employees to keep a steady hustle, while maintaining respectful to each other and their superiors. They valued the hard-work coming each and every employee, and in return, the company provided a sufficient healthcare package, along with other various perks, such food on certain days of the week and company picnics. If you arrived on-time everyday, kept a keen focus on what the company looks for in quality, and remained respectful with a positive attitude then upper management rewards you.

This place has such an old school mentality of work harder, not smarter.  Lots of IT things get implemented, then never fully finished.  The folks in charge don't really check in with middle management and key personnel making changes.  There's not change management to speak of, and things have been broken due to this lack of oversight.  The culture is great, if you're in literally any other department but IT.

The company also utilizes contractors, and they are treated poorly.  At the beginning of the pandemic, they let quite a few contractors go for their bottom line.  Classy.  I wouldn't say avoid this company, but just know it may not be very good for your mental health.

I haven’t worked here for almost a year now and I still have employees calling me on how to deal with the store manager and district managers who are destroying the store.
Yeti will NEVER help you get promoted, don’t even ask for it. Lack of respect from store manager and lack of care for issues from upper management caused me and every other manager to leave in under a year. 

Never was asked for an exit interview, probably because I voiced my concerns before and hurt the store managers feelings (boo hoo). 

Anyways, quite a shame that a cool company on the consumer side might be the most unfriendly and worst company I’ve ever worked for. Stay away. If you want to grow in a business, DO NOT waste a day putting in effort for Yeti. 


Great company.  Great people and camaraderie.  And the product sells itself.  I was beyond impressed with the quality of the Yeti products and their customer service.  Helping customers with their orders and making sure that the personalizations on mugs and coolers was enjoyable. 

The only downside to the place was that there was never a feeling of job security.  They let a lot of people go from there, and the reasons why were never quite clear.  Maybe it's different now.  They really are great.  So if you're hired as a contract employee for a 6 or 10 week assignment, it's very enjoyable and I'd recommend it, but maybe don't count on staying permanently.
