I would honestly say this is the worst company I worked for. I will walk you through my whole experience so you understand going into this company who you are working for. I applied for a job and they filled the position before my scheduled interview. During my interview I always have the same questions to ask my potential employer. The person I interviewed with was asked what the schedule was. They responded with saying it was a Monday through Friday position, with available overtime. I was told the overtime was voluntary, but this isn’t the case. In fact, most of the plant runs on a 13 days on, 1 day off schedule (yeah your “days off” are two sundays a month). And if you refuse to sign your right to the “Day of Rest” they won’t pay you overtime pay for the Saturday and Sunday you work, you’ll just make straight time. Well when they filled THAT position as well they offered me a completely different job on the spot.  I asked multiple times before I began work to have a job description and never received one. So on day one-I still didn’t know what I was hired to do. 

Day one- you’ll meet with HR for about an hour before they throw you right out onto the floor for “training”. In quotes because of the four weeks I was promised, I got seven days and of those days I had a medical emergency and was out for two and my trainer was out for one. So in total I got four actual days of training. I was then thrown to the wolves on second shift to figure it out alone. Anything I learned from there on out (Which was the majority of my job) was learned by me asking the angel of a third shift worker. I brought up my complaints to my supervisors and was promised a different job that would be Monday through Friday. They told me I would be moved in one month. After almost two months, I kind of gave up hope of that ever happening because they did the same thing to the woman I replaced on second shift. So I was stuck until they hired and “trained” someone to do the job.

Outside of that I worked a job needing two data entry programs. Of which I had zero access to the entire time I worked there, which created more work for first and third shift because they had to pick up the slack. (Keep in mind my whole job needed these two programs to even run correctly)

Also- don’t expect a paycheck any time soon. I didn’t get paid for the entire first month I worked there. I had to threaten to quit for them to actually get me my checks. The company could have written me a check any day of the week but instead they kept telling me “You should get it on Tuesday”.

The supervisory staff can be either great, or terrible. There is no in between. I worked second shift, and my supervisor could not care less I was there. He barely talked to me the three months I was employed here. However the first shift supervisor always checked on me before he left for the day. The people I worked on the floor with were great. But most supervisors couldn’t even tell you who I am. 

So all in all- it is a very negative environment with unstable promises and little forgiveness and zero time off. 

A typical day of work for me as a Cash Application Specialist involves first applying the new cash that came in overnight.  This includes money that hit our lockbox and well as funds deposited directly onto accounts.  I then proceed to work deductions taken on remittances.  After giving attention to these new issues, I work on unresolved problems involving unapplied cash and deductions without sufficient information for resolution.

In my years working at Osram Sylvania, I came to learn the importance of establishing a good rapport with external customers as well as fellow employees.  Doing this allowed me to excel in working quickly but accurately with great attention to detail.

Management and co-workers are supportive as we work to achieve team goals as a department.  Flexibility was needed to cover for others during vacations and other absences.

The hardest part of the job is working with customers that have old cash issues for which  they aren't pursuing resolution.  It involves repeated contact and encouragement to find solutions to keep their accounts updated.

The most enjoyable part of the job for me is feeling satisfaction in working my accounts and knowing I do my best to keep them clean.  The company’s offering flexible working hours also greatly contributes to my quality of life and feeling content in my working environment.

Work-Life Balance
Just empty words… Expect an infinite amount of mandatory overtime. For most positions here you’ll only have two days off a month. The company also runs LEAN so you’ll be required to shoulder the overtime burden in multiple areas on the off chance your area is caught up. If you value your personal time definitely avoid this place.

Pay & Benefits
The pay is average similar to most areas around here. The benefits are okay, they provide vision, dental, health, and life insurance. The raises are rare and minuscule.

Job Security & Advancements
With the constant turnover rate it’s safe to say that your job is secure. The company is desperate to keep people currently, but as far as advancements go it depends on your supervisor. If you excel in a position you can expect to stay there, though the brownnosers climb the ranks with ease. It’s about who you know, rather than what you know.

Management
It’s a hit or miss with supervisors. They carry no real authority and just do what they are told. Some tend to struggle when it comes to conflict, and most lack professionalism. Yet they remain there due to tenure.

Culture
The culture is nonexistent in all honesty. Morale is extremely low, no pride in the work. The company is pretty gloomy overall. It’s all about profits, the company doesn’t care about the people who make those profits.


Each day was something new and different, supporting the Senior Vice President, his staff and other members of the facility. Being a global company I had the opportunity to interact with different cultures. Working for a Senior Vice President I also had the opportunity to interact with all levels of management from the President down to the middle management, and hourly employees. I had the opportunity to learn many different things and become involved with multiple different departments during my employment. The people were great to work with and everyone was always helpful when asking for assitance with a project or when needing information. Due to the company business climate we were in constant change mode, forcing others to take on more responsibility but overall the most important part of my job was interacting with people and establishing a good repore with everyone. It made for a pleasant place to work.

just a bunch of mindless work and standing around since most of the machines break down a lot. Management cares more for the bottom-line and making numbers then they do you. The workers there seem pretty lifeless and just want to go home, moral is always very low.

The pay is pretty good but it is not unheard of for them to mess up your paycheck and then take their time fixing it. If you're not on management good side, advancing in the company is unlikely. There's little to no actual training, they just throw you on the line and hopefully there will be a kind co-worker there to help you out.

When I started they said working weekends were voluntary and it was uncommon/rare that they would have to mandate, but so far most weekends have been mandated. They don't tell you if they are mandating the weekend, they just will post the list of names of people that need to work a day or two before. The attendance policy is trash. You are still expected to come in even in hazardous weather conditions

Overall a long term company with a alot of history, which can help or hinder depending on who is in charge. Never able to get the transitions correct with the shift in technology/times.

Terrible at handling acquisitions, but able to put things together and generate success in certain avenues. Has he luxury of enabling several cash cows to keep them afloat admid mistakes, management changes and industry shifts.

"Safe" working environment you can feel comfortable for your job here if you are an individual contributor. It is not challenging if that is what motivates you but there is alot of room to grow and get quality training internally. 

If you know how to make the most out of 3-5 years here you can get what you need and move on with alot of usable tools for another job.

I worked under the Encelium brand (a Canadian lighting controls company) which had been acquired by Osram Sylvania. 

The people were all really nice and very helpful, especially the Canadian-based Team Leader who's more or less a supervisor for the Encelium Applications Engineering department -- he's very knowledgeable, extremely patient, and absolutely hilarious! Other co-workers (from both the Encelium and Traxon brand were also very pleasant to deal with).

The job itself was a lot of fun -- it entailed doing CAD design electrical layouts of architectural floor plans, as well as mark-ups and estimating (i.e. BOMs, quotes, etc.). 

A perfectly summarized analogy from my fellow teammates regarding the Osram Sylvania management and management style was like that of a leaking bucket -- instead of fixing what's actually wrong, they simply kept plugging the holes each time a leak would spring up.

If you value your life outside of work, don't even bother with this place. They will work you seven days a week for months on end and its all mandatory.  Job is basic machine operation with average difficulty. They make circuit boards, and production employees are responsible for loading boards onto the line, overseeing  automated machines that place resistors etc., testing, inspecting, and packing completed boards.  Most machines and feeders are old and worn out, but high production is still expected.  Management will tell you one thing, but do the opposite quite often.  Human Resource department is pretty worthless, but did make small improvements before I left.  Its climate controlled, but most lines have two massive ovens so it stays pretty warm.  High employee turnover rate including management.  Most people working there are miserable, mainly because they're overworked and underpayed.  I would not recommend working there!

Working there was great, as my first job it was nice. my fellow workers on the floor are some of the best people ive ever met and are genuinely fantastic people, the pay is good and the work is simple and easy

the issues are is the management is fully incapable of fitting in to the floor people, people are working this tiring, repetitive task in often blistering heat, hunched over and the management is fully clueless on what it is like, crushing any bit of anything to make our lives easier, coming up with solutions to non problems and just making things worse for no real reason. instead of promotion they get someone who hasnt got a clue about the culture or the work.

its a good place to work but dont be surprised when you have to work 6 days a week because of the managements lack of empathy

1)Primary customers were in the automotive industry which demanded specific tasks to be monitored and performed each day to meet customer requirements. The rest of the day was to monitor attainment of the production plan in order to meet customer requirements.
2) Learned to regiment my daily activities to meet all customer needs
3) Took active control of all manufacturing and cost activities to meet Sales and Operation Plans (SOP) with concurance of the Product Line Manager (PLM)
4) Worked daily with Production Foreman and Quality Control to make sure that the Production Plan and customer objectives were met on time
5) The hardest part of my job was to find time to do additional SAP research to improve Production Planning
6) Leading our Production team to success through a difficult time. I do not care who gets the credit as long as we succeed as a team.
