A foreign company with 1 facility up and running in Olyphant Pennsylvania and working on a second in Indiana. Pay is good for some of the hourlies and benefits are decent. Middle management (supervisors) from what I’ve seen are extremely stressed out. Upper management, Human Resources, and safety seem to delegate a lot of their responsibilities to them. Must be willing to travel is one of the stipulations for the new facility employees. We were initially told 2 weeks in PA and 1 week home, and 3 weeks across seas (Poland, Holland, or England) and 1 week home. Travel was to end in October. Also for those of us hired in Feb-March were told we would be given the chance to earn what they called “The canpack degree” from a local community college when we were back home from travel. This would have been nice since all we have to do is sit around and listen to the same stories and watch the same videos over and over again for the week we’re home.  The schooling fell through the cracks as did the 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 schedules for travel. Also travel was extended to February of 2023. There are some that have been traveling for 6 months already, and some that have just started. If there are family issues that cannot be covered by a Dr. note ie child care there is no exception given. Even if the employee has traveled for months. You can’t always foresee problems that might come up. The problem with this is I’ve seen good employees have to quit because no exceptions can be made. Inthe interest of fairness and consistency are their (HR) go to on this. In 1 situation in particular I seen an employee put on a LOA due to medical issues and told all they need to do was provide Dr. Notes for days missed. Notes were provided, but not excepted. As a result one of the first hourlies very good at their job was terminated for attendance. I’m really not sure how that can be done, but it definitely was. Employee retention is the biggest issue in the flagship plant in Olyphant. I believe this is due to the policy of a foreign company not knowing how to deal with the American work force. For a company that puts so much emphasis on work/home life balance they don’t appear to be holding up their end of that… at least not in my eyes. I believe that the Muncie Indiana team is in a exceptional situation with the traveling to train. Put our home lives on hold for our job. This is in no way normal and to hold us to standards of an up and running plant as far as attendance and other things go is completely unfair. Exceptions can and should be made for those that have been doing it longer than the others. In closing I can only say we aren’t driving the car they sold us in the interview and first couple of weeks we worked there. 

A typical day starts with the chaos of not knowing what line is gonna run and when it’ll run. Constantly losing 2 days of production, because we play musical weekly line shutdowns on equipment designed to run 24-7, 365 days a year.  Then there’s the year of wasted production, due to poor training programs and in-fighting between the US team and the European team. Regular crew meetings never happen, so employees have no idea what’s going on from day-to-day. Shifts should overlap (but HR said no, because they run the plant), so employees can stay informed, but they don’t. Monthly “town hall” meetings are a half hour of useless information. Policies and practices are constantly being manipulated (off the books) with regards to attendance and discipline (which rarely happens), to suite whatever agenda HR has, because of course, HR does the hiring and hires anything with a pulse. Too much time spent “rewarding” poor performance, which ends up causing really good employees to leave in droves. You’re lucky if 10% of the workforce actually cares about the success of the plant. Supervisors and managers run around like chickens with their heads cut off and are all past the point of exhaustion because of having to HR’s job on top of their already heavy workload. This plant could be a great place to work if HR was facilitating, instead of dictating. The mass exodus has started now that all the folks (with can experience) are coming to the end of their 2 year mistake. Until HR is gutted and management starts communicating better, this plant is a sinking ship. I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone in its current state.

Hr does not help employees.  Losing good employees and keeping bad.  Being a good worker gets you nothing but burnt out.  If you are good you are always asked to run and fix something or help someone.  Mandatory overtime every week!  Good way to burn out the good workers.  Morale is very low in this place. Severely understaffed.  On every shift and every position.  Last palletizer hired was end of February.  Some have quit since then.  Hr is dragging this place to the ground with their lack of hiring. The point system is ridiculous.  Lost a lot of good employees because of getting sick and pointing out.   I don't recommend this job. Training was very limited.  Always adding more rules and duties to the jobs.  The cameras are always being watched if you sit more than 10 minutes you get written up.  You will walk up to 9 miles a day.  Mostly flights of steps in this position.  Area not in the palletizer upstairs gets over 100°F  around mid 80's and up in the air conditioned area.  It's very hot.  And you will be expected to work in the non air conditioned area to depalletize and clear jams besides constantly bending to pick up cans. Some supervisors are one of the good things about this place. Quarterly bonus is nice.  Health insurance is good. And 401K.  Cameras are watched so often it feels like you work in a prison.  Best believe ya mess up you get written up.  Makes for a very tense work environment.  

This place pays good but would rather hire from outside the country and they even tell you that in meetings. If you’re a person who voices concerns about people who don’t know the job being promoted to lead other employees, including new employees, then you are targeted. They promote people who kiss up and jump when they say but they don’t actually know the job. So then when you have new people that need help, they are to rely on a lead that doesn’t have answers for them. There is a hostile work environment where an employee is attacked consistently for bringing up legit concerns. Upper management talks down to supervisors, up to and including, cursing them out in person and through company emails and outing them down, nothing is said to them and no consequences for abusive behavior. Lots of two faced and lying supervisors and management. That’s the culture they promote. Time off options are limited. Fmla and leave is only after one year of service. RUN AWAY!!!

They lie, so much. You travel too much! 3 weeks to Pennsylvania out of the month. One week home and back to PA or they send you to the UK, Poland or the Netherlands. And if you can NOT travel then you will NOT have a job. HR does NOT work with you or your families needs. They are super strict on attendance. Even 30 seconds off, you will receive points. There is no communication within the company. I loved the work and I knew my job very well. I was the first hourly hired for the Muncie plant. Traveled to and from PA since March, non-stop, no breaks or appreciation for giving up my home life to live out of state to train for this company. Was fired while under the attendance policy and being out on doctors care. Let’s just say, they had done me and others very dirty. I wouldn’t apply or want to work here till they figured out their policy or get rid of the people who don’t know their job. If you work here , stay outta mind and sight and maybe you won’t have issues. 

Canpack pays for many of your personal items.. cloths  n cleaning, gloves hearing protection, prescription glasses a, work boots and more. There is NO heavy lifting all day there. Training is good and if you want you may expand your knowledge into other areas. Im there 2 years and have worked in 4 different areas without any problems at the age of 63. There is an 80 year old man in another department who loves working here. the tough part is some people cant keep there mouth shut and complain all the time. Thats where the bad reviews come from n yes at start up we did have a lot of o/t n canpack is short on Vac n Holidays.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This is a very untrustworthy and unprofessional company to work for. What they say and what they mean are complete opposites. The managers lead you to believe everyone is equal and your opinions matter, but they don't. You really do get put under the gun whether the machines are running well or not due to the fact that they only care about quantity of cans, not quality.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Communication is extremely poor. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very stressful. Plus now the majority of employees are foreigners whom refuse to speak English while working online which adds to why the job is harder than what it needs to be. The management doesn't care though.

Pay and quarterly bonus is nice if you're offered a Deco Tech position don't take it the extra dollar an hour isn't worth it, you will be expected to hit high numbers with no help or support the leads,  specialists, and management don't care about really fixing little issues with the machines that have went from minor things that could use some maintenence to now things no one seemingly knows how to fix also you won't even have the extra help with being properly staffed when HR keeps saying they're 100% head count yet you'll have 1 person trying to run multiple machines and when you do get the extra help it's someone that doesn't know what they're doing due to lack of experience and training

The pay is decent and I like the 2-2-3 schedule.

The negativity. Employees have low morale because of favoritism, disrespectful supervisors, and employees that are supposed to train are very condescending.

Divisive. Negative. You can't trust anyone.

It is a 12 hour shift with two 15 minute breaks and 1 half hour break. 7 to 7.

The best part was the free items that were given out in the beginning

Some positions are not valued as significantly. Managers/ leaders make assessments of people and stick to those regardless of performance and functionally of employees.

The culture is odd. The leadership sets the tone for a culture that favors certain people and excludes others.
