I was just currently the Store Manager at Fairfield. I worked my worked very hard to get that store together. I came to the store with the store not doing well. The DM doesn't want to make changes to the management team there, that is part of the reason the store is not thriving. The staff run the store with the managers on duty. They do what they want. You can never keep the store staffed, I was always hiring people to fill the store cause they didn't like how the management team ran when I wasn't there. If you didn't give the staff days off they requested do to the needs of the store including the management team they would just call off and leave you to do doubles. I worked 6 days a week almost every week since I had started. That store has a lot of theft. And the company wants you to do nothing but stand at the front door and command presence and greet. So the customers just walk right by you and walk out with the stuff, knowing that you can do nothing. Policies are not all followed except for when HIGHER ups want to push certain ones. I spent long hours at the store 6 days a week. Last week I worked everyday to make sure everything was done that was directed to still fail an audit they do every week, cause there is no solid foundation in that store with management. and DM doesn't want to move with them on anything
You will get called or texted every single one of your days off having to do with the store and what you need to do or check on. Even days you requested off. They never ask you to actually work 6 days or more or more ours in a day, But they make little comments till you do. "well the staff really needs your help". " I don't think the staff will get it done with you gone". " please make sure you stay close to them while your gone out of the business".


I was just let go from this company today for getting a license plate number off a car from someone who stole from the store. I had never been given a write up for anything since I started but then bam, bye

When there was several policy violations In the store there heads were turned on. I feel they were tired of me trying to push for new management. I start questioning how things were being done and not done and handled. 

This store does have a lot of potential, but the company doesn't care what your ideas are to help fix it or make it better nor do they care what your experience is. 


They also will low ball you with your pay. I will tell you. For all you will be expected to for this store do not do it for less then 60,000 or more a year. you will have to work a lot. your life with be work with this company

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing, if I could give 0 stars I would. This was the worst “job” I’ve ever had in my 10years+ of employment history (and I’m not exaggerating). I put Job in quotation marks because it falls so short of the bare minimum to even call it a job. 


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything. Management was spiteful, non resourceful, extremely unprofessional, useless, retaliated against me (and many other employees I worked with). The job was “easy” but they over-complicated things that didn’t need to be. Not getting any hours was the most stressful part. It affected everything in my life not getting paid and being on call. Extremely useless and unprofessional. The co workers were great for the most part except for a small few. But everything else about the job was stressful. And it didn’t need to be but the management went out of their way to
Make it complicated/stressful. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment was Terrible. The only thing that was nice were a few sweet and friendly coo workers and the customers were relaxed because prices for their personal needs (for the MOST part). Culture at the company was irrelevant to me. I was the only person of my kind except for one other at this Long Beach (on 7th) location. Which was its own problem i itself. But the environment and culture were two different things I suppose. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day working for DD’s usually  involved me Guessing when I’m going to come in and then they change it on me the day of, call me and get angry with me or penalize me for not showing up on time or when the day came, not knowing when they changed my schedule / changing it without my knowledge at quite literally the very last moment/minute. (Again I’d like to stress: WITHOUT ME KNOWING). Or, the day of my shift, they’ll call me and tell me I’ve been “cut” for some unknown reason or “payroll” but they’ll schedule someone else who doesn’t know how to do the job and give them the hours. When I haven’t been cut or moved around without my knowledge a typical shift was about 2-4 hours (the absolute minimum) and it was usually doing multiple things in a short amount of time. Hitting 3 different areas with 2 different tasks each under a timeline. In this small time frame. Or it involved me standing around and doing nothing because they just need someone to sit in the fitting room and let people into the restroom for a 2 hour shift.

Let me start off with saying if you have already applied and no one called you back after a month it is possible you did not pass the questionnaire on the application (you are now a no hire) or did not meet their availability needs. 

I really enjoyed working at DD’s but after awhile the only thing keeping me at there was my coworkers, discount (20%. 3 weeks a year they give us 40%) and steady pay. I was an area supervisor and dropped down back to an assistant supervisor because I was taking more classes. So with the experience of a manager I was still doing a lot of manager work and getting paid the same as most of the entry level workers. 

Overall the work is incredibly easy but you need to learn how to be a quick and efficient worker if you aren’t already. 
Hours vary on what season you’re in. So during Christmas it’s possible to get OT pay even as a part timer. However after Christmas and before summer it gets dreadfully slow (hours wise. Customers still come) and corporate doesn’t seem to want to give enough for payroll. 

Now this goes for most retail jobs but the customers at our store were either truly lovely or horrendous. I’m talking like really bad customers, if you tell them no they look like they’re about to have a fist fight with you. If you get highly overwhelmed with confrontation I do NOT recommend working as a cashier or fitting room associate. 

There are cool perks with the company besides the store discount, during holidays and safety celebrations the company will provide money to purchase food for the break room. Also if you are the associate of the month you get $50 added to your paycheck untaxed. As a full timer you get paid vacation, sick, store anniversary, and birthday pay. As well as a couple others I believe. There are other benefits that you May opt in like healthcare and the like.

They do give you breaks and lunches depending on how long you work. 

Sometimes the schedule is made a week before. And I want to say a little more than sometimes there are schedule changes and you are not always notified of said change. I recommend taking a picture of your schedule as evidence. 

Starting pay at my store was $9 but got upped last summer to $11

This is a great place to gain experience in a fast paced environment. With my previous experience in retail that catered to middle/higher end clientle, I can honestly say that this job taught me the true meaning of having to work hard for your money. Due to its low prices, (who doesn't love low prices in this economy?) the store was ALWAYS busy, not a second is gone idle, which makes the work day pass by rather quickly. However, I'm not speaking for all locations but at my specific location, management was somewhat unprofessional. There was drama and rumors flooding the workplace which made for an uneasy work environment. While most of the customers are decent, there were also plenty of rude people.
Although most workplaces have disciplinary actions for mistakes, a mistake at this store is taken very seriously. I accidentally didn't charge a customer for an item (which I had no knowledge of), and even after resigning my position, loss prevention hunted me down. The most difficult moment was having loss prevention tell me that I must have done it on purpose (thus, stealing) the item when I have never stolen anything in my life. Even though it was a mistake and was no longer working there, I had to pay a $40 reimubursement fee to replace the item. LP told me it wouldn't be on my record and that there would be no lawsuit, next thing I know, he hands me a sheet stating "YOU HAVE BEEN DETAINED FOR THEFT" with a lawyer's name on it. I still do not know or trust if the LP was telling the truth and I hope that telling the truth to future employers won't eliminate my chances of landing a job. Although this was definitely not my favorite job, I believe that it taught me enough about hard work so that I will be a better prepared and harder worker for the next.

I worked at Dietes in Texas City right before the grand opening. I was there to help build a store and prep it. I applied as cashier but told him that I don’t know wherever needed. I never had any complaints from any customers and I very much enjoyed working with my teammates overall had a really nice experience with the team the only bad experience I had was with management. I had one managers complaining about me or something that I didn’t do because they mistake me for somebody else and instead of hearing my side they cornered me and pretty much and really apologize for something I didn’t do anything to cut my hours. I wasn’t accused of anything big just something very minor but because they were under stress take it out on the workers it was very obvious who was our favorite and who wasn’t. I also noticed that they were cutting the hours of everyone except for highschoolers. I wound up leaving the store because I was working two jobs at the time and they wouldn’t work with me even though I had my other job first and gave them to Nicks and advance the schedule my other job is going to work with DD’s schedule but even though I had given them the schedule in advance they still wouldn’t pay attention to the schedule and told me that I was responsible for finding a replacement if I couldn’t make it. The last straw for me was finding out that somebody who worked there less than me and was way younger had gotten a raise. Besides management I really did enjoy the store I would recommend others to work there and I hope that other people have a better experience. The job was very difficult and was very fun except for when management would have a power trip.

Typical day for closing would be reviewing the clipboard of who needs to take their lunch and breaks. It's a very fast pace environment and no time for downtime. Decision making has to be quick and to the spot (if a mistake is made it falls on me who is closing). Each manager have a designated department to control and work in and at the same time run the front end or do paper work. If a cashier is not following proper procedures and the register, I have to pull them aside and explain the proper procedures. I always have to keep my eyes on the line and call cashiers when it grows (3 customers in line = 2nd cashier; 6 customers = 3rd cashier and so on). This is where decision making skills jump in (I also have a register and should I jump on or call the 2nd cashier?) Every cashiers have a task on the floor such as doing gobacks or assisting the other full time department managers if they are behind in their department. As an area supervisor my duty is everything (my dept, on the floor, on the register, approving returns, keeping up with my full timers and their department, controlling go-backs, giving lunch and breaks, keeping an eye out for shoplifters, handling call offs and sick calls and finding replacement). Opening procedure is much more focused on paperwork and receiving (much easier than closing). But still a lot of work. Yet the environment and the associates makes it a great and fun place to work at. My life isn't always on the line compared to walgreens. Great development and promotion (i was constantly getting promoted throughout my years their and finally became a area supervisor, was already making my way for asm but due to family issues i had to leave the crew </3)

My co workers were nice and a breeze to work with especially during the stores busiest times. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The pay.  The work was pretty easy and straight forward During the busy season, November, December the hours were good but when slow you barely make gas money for the days you work. Management will work with you until it no longer serves them. I talked about possibly leaving in the near future because of personal things that happened during that time but in spite of that I worked when scheduled until I had no choice but to resign because I didn't want it to become a situation where I become unreliable and that's when I had the most unprofessional and overall shocking experience from Christine (imediate supervisor )that I have ever encountered I was told I would be put down as a non rehirable employee. I hadn't gotten into any conflicts, got along with everyone, no attendance warnings or broken any other rules. During communications about me having to leave I was treated so disrespectfully but in spite of that I continued to be respectful and professional and thanked Ms. Christine and the Dd's  Discounts corporation for the opportunity and I apologized for any inconvenience though I was shocked and heartbroken that I was treated so disrrspectfully and was told I could never return. I think it's a okay place to work just that particular store management unprofessionalism was not what I was use to

Upbeat and customers and other employees were a pleasure to be around

When i started this job i was actually pretty excited, it seemed easy enough with good pay rate, but then i started and my opinion quickly changed, They are so disorganized i was told by multiple managers to just put merchandise where ever it fits even though the aisles were a huge mess, their stock room is such a mess too so much that sometimes we had be trapped in a square surrounded by product, on top of that the store manager assumed i knew how to do everything and when i needed to be taught they would just give me a summary of what i had to do and wouldn't properly teach me how to. on top of all that i soon started to have the skin on my fingers peel off from doing the exact same thing everyday and back problems due to their small working spaces. In the end i ended up quiting, even though i know it wont look good on me i did it to better my health. I was waking up depressed from this jobs and soon started to show symptoms of stress because my life wasn't going too smooth at the moment and any time i had to call in they wouldn't believe my reasoning, i even got yelled at by the store manager once because he "is just gonna assume i just didn't wanna come in" and he questioned work ethic, in the end my impression of the company because of this store is that its a self loathed overwhelming job that has no consideration for the struggles a person can have and doesn't care about anything but you working ur scheduled hours so they can cancel ur shift whenever they dont which i went a whole two weekd without working once because they kept canceling my shift and then would ask me to come in on days i wasn't scheduled

I've never had the time to write a proper review from my employment here, but I think it's about time. This was my first job dealing with retail of any kind, managers were nice and overall it was a very friendly environment with people who had been there for a good while. It's an overall easy job, you just have to put the work in to memorize how to do things throughout the year, quick on your feet, and if you had any questions there were always happy to answer. Never the less, like any other job there is always something bound to go wrong, now this isn't any "they didn't give me breaks", "I wasn't paid enough" no, no. This is my experience with the change of store managers, now like any change of management there is always different ways of doing things. In the span of a couple weeks, the store definitely changed in.. I guess you could say "vibe". Hours being cut, people leaving, people losing their titles and shoved into jobs they simply did not sign up for, gossip starting to rise over a single person. What's team work when you can't trust your own teammates and especially the manager who will most absolutely talk slander behind your back? Now this wasn't me being paranoid or hearing it from another person, but just listening for myself. Which is disheartening when you give someone a chance and they spit on you. I believe if you can't listen to your own employees suggestions and or are willing to hear another opinion other than your own, I don't think you should be a manager of any kind. I mean, what else could I say within the guidelines of writing a truthful review? If you want to work here or are working there already, don't roll over but stand up for yourself.
