MDS Coordinator Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented MDS Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and enhancing patient care through effective management of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) process. This position requires a strong understanding of patient care, particularly in an inpatient setting, preferably within a Level II trauma center. The MDS Coordinator will collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate documentation and coding while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

Oversee the completion of MDS assessments for all patients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations.
Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to gather necessary patient information for MDS submissions.
Utilize eClinicalWorks systems to document patient data efficiently and effectively.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding practices, and regulatory changes related to MDS.
Conduct regular audits of MDS submissions to identify areas for improvement and ensure quality assurance.
Provide training and support to staff on MDS processes, coding standards, and documentation requirements.
Facilitate interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and address any concerns related to MDS assessments.

Experience

Previous experience as an MDS Coordinator or in a similar role within a healthcare setting is highly preferred.
Strong background in patient care, particularly in critical care environments or Level II trauma centers.
Familiarity with medical coding practices and HIPAA regulations is essential.
Proficiency in using electronic health record systems such as eClinicalWorks is advantageous.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
