Develop Technology Solutions That Enable Rural Oral Healthcare Transformation

We are seeking a skilled and collaborative Dental Application Developer to support the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP). In this role, you will design, develop, test, and maintain software applications that support rural dental providers, improve program operations, enhance reporting capabilities, and enable data-driven decision-making.
The Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) advances innovative approaches to strengthen rural oral healthcare by improving access to care, enhancing quality outcomes, supporting workforce development, and helping dental organizations build sustainable systems of care.
Position Summary
The Dental Application Developer is responsible for developing, configuring, integrating, and supporting software applications that enable the successful implementation of RHTP initiatives. This position collaborates with program leadership, dental transformation teams, analysts, healthcare providers, and technical stakeholders to create digital solutions that improve workflow efficiency, data management, reporting, communication, and operational performance.
The successful candidate will translate business and healthcare requirements into secure, scalable, and user-friendly applications that support rural dental practices and program objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
Application Development & Maintenance
- Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain applications supporting RHTP dental transformation activities.
- Develop custom software solutions, enhancements, and integrations based on program and stakeholder requirements.
- Configure and optimize existing applications and platforms to support business workflows.
- Troubleshoot application issues and provide timely technical support.
- Maintain application documentation, technical specifications, and user guides.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment, and support.
Healthcare & Dental Technology Solutions
- Develop applications that support rural dental practice transformation and program operations.
- Create tools that improve provider engagement, workflow management, communication, and resource access.
- Support applications related to quality improvement, performance tracking, patient engagement, and operational improvement.
- Assist with integration between dental practice management systems, electronic dental records (EDRs), reporting platforms, and other healthcare technologies.
- Develop solutions that improve efficiency and reduce administrative burden for dental organizations.
Data, Reporting & Analytics Support
- Collaborate with Dental Data & Performance Analysts and Business & Reporting Analysts to develop reporting applications and dashboards.
- Build applications that support data collection, validation, visualization, and reporting.
- Develop automated processes to improve data accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Support database design, data workflows, and application-generated reports.
- Assist with performance monitoring tools used to measure RHTP outcomes.
Application Integration & Technical Support
- Develop and maintain APIs, interfaces, and system integrations.
- Support data exchange between applications, databases, and healthcare systems.
- Implement secure authentication, user access controls, and application security practices.
- Perform application testing, quality assurance, and performance optimization.
- Monitor application functionality and recommend improvements.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Gather and analyze technical requirements from dental providers, program staff, and operational teams.
- Translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Participate in project planning and technology improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to end users.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technology solutions align with program goals.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve program efficiency through automation and technology.
- Evaluate emerging application development tools and approaches.
- Recommend improvements to existing systems and processes.
- Support digital transformation initiatives across participating rural dental organizations.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities related to technology operations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Health Informatics, Web Development, or related field.
- Three to five years of experience in application development, software engineering, healthcare technology, or business application support.
- Experience developing, testing, and maintaining software applications.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies and application lifecycle management.
- Experience working with databases, APIs, and system integrations.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with non-technical users.
Preferred
- Experience developing applications for healthcare, dental, public health, or government programs.
- Knowledge of healthcare data standards, interoperability, and information security practices.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHRs), electronic dental records (EDRs), or healthcare information systems.
- Experience with grant-funded healthcare technology initiatives.
- Experience supporting quality improvement, population health, or healthcare transformation programs.
Technical Skills Preferred
- Programming languages: Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, or similar languages.
- Application frameworks: .NET, React, Angular, Node.js, Django, or comparable technologies.
- Database technologies: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar platforms.
- API development and integration.
- Cloud application development using Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Version control systems such as Git/GitHub/GitLab.
- Agile software development methodologies.
