Job Location: Durham NC
Under the direct supervision of the Director, Database Administration Management, will provide Sybase database administration (DBA) support and technical support for multiple Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server applications in development, integration test, user acceptance test, quality assurance, performance and production environments. The position will consist of application DBA administration responsibilities for business critical databases on UNIX and Windows platforms. Will perform database administration activities including backup and recovery, monitoring, performance and tuning, replication, schema management, space management, Transact-SQL tuning, and auditing. Will work with development and application support teams to resolve application and performance issues. Will track capacity management. Will provide 7 x 24 on-call rotation for production support, database maintenance, housekeeping, and software installations. Will work closely with other groups including Design, Database Architecture, Operations, and Systems Administration, Development Will work with application teams, system DBAs, and peers to ensure our department’s technical standards for databases are maintained. Will function as a Lead DBA by exercising overall responsibility to ensure work is performed, including assigning tasks to our offshore teams.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or Physics or equivalent foreign education and 4+ years experience in Job Offered or 4+ years experience in Sybase Database Administration.
Special Requirements:
- Demonstrated Expertise ‘DE’ in UNIX scripting, including PERL and Shell programming;
- DE in Sybase database maintenance, development and security of database access using Transact-SQL and SQL Server 2000/2005;
- DE in Sybase capacity management and performance tuning;
- DE in Sybase versions 11.9.2/12.0/12.5 and 15.0
- DE in Sybase replication server 12.0/12.6
- DE in special monitoring software I3, DBArtison and CRTM+M.
