Hitchcock Center for Women is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Accountant to oversee financial operations, healthcare billing, revenue cycle management, and reimbursement activities for our nonprofit behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment organization.
This position is responsible for billing accounts receivable – primarily to Medicaid. This will include researching and resolving denied claims and reporting results. You will also support financial reporting, and maintain compliance with Medicaid, managed care, and other payer requirements. The Senior Accountant works closely with clinical, administrative, and executive leadership to maximize revenue and support the organization's mission of helping women and families achieve lasting recovery.
Position Summary
The Lead Accountant is responsible for managing healthcare billing operations, revenue cycle performance, insurance claims processing, reimbursement monitoring, assisting CFO with month-end closing including journal entries and financial analysis, audit prep and regulatory compliance. The position serves as a key member of the finance team and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Management
- Oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle, including claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and collections.
- Monitor Accounts Receivable and reimbursement trends.
- Analyze claim denials and implement corrective actions to improve collections.
- Develop and monitor key revenue cycle performance indicators.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing for all services provided.
Medicaid and Insurance Billing
- Manage billing activities for Medicaid, managed care organizations, commercial insurance, and other funding sources.
- Review and reconcile reimbursement activity.
- Coordinate appeals and resolution of denied or underpaid claims.
- Direct client engagement to facilitate benefits enrollment.
- Maintain current knowledge of payor policies, billing regulations, and reimbursement methodologies.
Accounting and Reporting
- Prepare journal entries and assist with monthly processes
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports and revenue analyses.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyze financial data and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
- Assist with audit preparation and regulatory reporting requirements.
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations.
- Maintain HIPAA-compliant financial and billing practices.
- Develop and maintain effective internal controls over billing and reimbursement activities.
- Support organizational compliance initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Collaborate with clinical, admissions, and program staff to ensure accurate documentation and billing.
- Provide training and guidance regarding billing requirements and reimbursement processes.
- Serve as a resource for resolving complex billing and reimbursement issues.
- Participate in organizational planning and performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum three years of experience in healthcare finance, revenue cycle management, medical billing, or healthcare reimbursement.
- Strong analytical and financial reporting skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial software systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
- Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential treatment, or community mental health services.
- Experience with Ohio Medicaid and Ohio managed care plans.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles.
- Supervisory or management experience.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) and healthcare billing systems.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
