Job Summary
St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Brookline (near Coolidge Corner) is looking for two Sunday morning nursery caretakers for children aged approx 2-6.
All time is spent on the church property in a recently renovated play space that serves as a preschool during the week. There is no expectation of teaching in this role; the goal is to create a safe, warm, play space for young children while their parents are in worship.

Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, nurturing care for children who come to the nursery
- Create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment where children feel comfortable and cared for.
- Supervise free play and age-appropriate activities
- Foster positive interactions among children, encouraging kindness, cooperation, and inclusion.
- Greet children and families warmly at drop-off and communicate any relevant information to parents as needed.
- Maintain awareness of each child’s safety and well-being while in the nursery’s care.
- Follow church policies and procedures related to child safety, attendance, and emergency response.
- Help keep the nursery and play areas tidy, organized, and ready for use before and after each session.
- Collaborate with fellow nursery staff and church leaders to ensure a positive experience for children and families.
- Model a calm, caring, and professional presence that reflects the church’s commitment to hospitality and community.
Requirements
- Previous experience caring for or working with young children in a childcare, nursery, camp, classroom, babysitting, or similar setting preferred.
- Warm, patient, and dependable presence with a genuine enjoyment of working with young children.
- Ability to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children and families.
- Strong judgment and attentiveness to child safety and well-being.
- Ability to work collaboratively with fellow nursery staff.
- Ability to be present onsite on Sunday mornings.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with parents and caregivers.
- Comfortable supervising active play and engaging with children in a preschool-style environment.
- Ability to communicate and respond calmly and appropriately with children.
- Successful completion of required background checks and compliance with the church’s Safe Church/child protection policies.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
