JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The
Vocal Music Adjunct Teacher is directly supervised by the
CAPA Principal . The position teaches students in grades 9-12 in music academic classes and private voice lessons for 15 hours per week. The ideal candidate is a working artist in teh Pittsburgh area.
Schedule: Monday and Wednesday mornings (7:55am-10:55am) & Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons (12:15pm-3:15pm)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Prepare and teach stimulating classes in content ranging from Solfege, Music Theory, Muscianship, Music History, and Private voice lessons to students aged 13-18
2. Prepare the vocals for 2-3 annual student recitals
3. Nurture each student to maximize their potential as musical theater artists
4. Utilize differentiated instruction to assess and support all students according to their accommodations and learning styles
5. Ensuring a culture of rigor and discipline in the classroom
6. Practice a sensitive handling of students’ emotional needs, giving constructive criticism, encouragement and confidence
7. Create a welcoming, healthy and safe learning environment for all students to grow and learn by setting class-based rules and boundaries that are centered on mutual respect and understanding of our core values
8. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
9. Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA vocal faculty to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.
10. Maintain student attendance records
11. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's or school’s goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals

EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Music or related field
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED
Pennsylvania Department of Education Permit for Resource Specialists, required after offer

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
3-5 years
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
· 3-5 years of teaching experience with students in grades 6-12.
· Basic Piano Proficiency for accompaniment
· Repertoire knowledge in Classical, Contemporary, Gospel, Jazz, and Musical Theatre genres.
· Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.
· Value, demonstrate, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion .

not a component of the School-Based Professional Internal Transfer Season. Current Pittsburgh Public School employees who are school-based professionals (teachers, librarian, counselors, social workers, etc.) are not eligible to apply to this position.
CITY OF PITTSBURGH RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
This position does not have a residency requirement.
