Public Health is a Division of the New Mexico Department of Health. The Southeast Region Public Health Division consists of 8 counties with 10 public health offices. Each office houses diverse staff members offering services promoting healthy behaviors to have a better quality of life.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to empower and support the Health Promotion Teams (HPT) to work with communities in improving health and addressing the root causes of health disparities. The Health Promotion Program Manager (HPPM) will lead regional HPT to implement strategies aimed at achieving state and regional public health priorities. They provide guidance in the development of local health initiatives that align with the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP). The HPPM works with coordinators and specialists on building trust between the Department of Health and community through sustained connections and support. The Program Manager will support and provide Coordinators and Specialists in trainings and orientation. They work with the health promotion team, to identify and coordinate around community-identified needs.

To provide leadership and coordination to effectively lead their team and to implement strategies aimed at achieving state and regional public health priorities. Communicate effectively to inform and educate people about health, factors that influence health, and how to improve health. Strengthen, support, and mobilize communities and partnerships to improve health. Create, champion, and implement policies, plans, and laws that impact health. Contribute to regional and/or statewide Health Promotion plans by supporting prioritized goals, strategies, and activities based on health indicators and the community health improvement plans.

Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Statistics, Finance, or a related field and three (3) years of experience with a public assistance program, medical, healthcare, educational, or state facility working with policies and procedures, conducting analysis/research, providing or requesting information from the general public, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management, behavioral health, and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Office setting, phone use, driving on the road.
