Job Summary
The Medical Assistant provides a blend of clinical, administrative, and basic personal care support to residents in our long-term care facility. Working under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and licensed physicians, this role ensures that residents receive high-quality medical tracking, clean living conditions, and organized administrative management to maximize their comfort and health outcomes.
- Track Vitals: Measure and record blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen, temperature, weight, and height.
- Report Changes: Immediately alert the nursing staff to any sudden changes in a resident’s physical condition or mental state.
- Medication Assistance: Administer oral medications or injections under strict medical orders and state regulations.
- Wound Care: Clean minor wounds and change basic dressings as directed by a clinician.
- Specimen Collection: Collect blood (phlebotomy), urine, stool, or sputum samples for laboratory analysis.
- Exam Prep: Set up examination rooms, sterilize medical instruments, and assist physicians during resident check-ups.
Resident Support & Daily Living (ADLs)
- Hygiene Assistance: Support residents with bathing, showering, oral care, hair care, and dressing when needed.
- Mobility Support: Safely escort, transfer, or wheel residents to the dining hall, therapy sessions, and exam rooms.
- Dietary Tracking: Help serve meals, assist residents with eating, and accurately log daily fluid and food intake/output.
Administrative & Facility Management
- Records Management: Document all vital signs, test results, and daily care activities in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Inventory Control: Track and restock medical supplies, PPE, exam room items, and medication carts.
- Appointment Logistics: Coordinate and schedule off-site specialist visits, transport, and incoming telehealth appointments.
- Sanitization: Maintain a sterile, safe environment by regularly cleaning exam areas and medical equipment according to infection control protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) plus graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
- Certification: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) dual-certification is highly preferred.
- Life Support: Active Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification through the AHA or Red Cross.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience; experience in geriatrics, senior care, or long-term care facilities is preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand or walk for long periods and safely push or lift residents requiring mobility assistance.
- Key Traits: Strong communication skills, infinite patience, high empathy, and keen attention to detail
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
