TYD is a nonprofit organization that aims to equip Pima County youth to gain employment, achieve self-sufficiency and reach career potential through education and training. We are seeking a full-time Student Support Coordinator to support our overall mission, focusing on the mission of our Schools- Alternative, rigorous, technology-enhanced instruction for "at-risk" youth leading to graduation and preparation for success beyond graduation.
Work hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:00.
Overview:
The Student Support Coordinator (SSC) provides students with guidance and support. The SSC oversees the development and implementation of a consistent MTSS model of tiered intervention processes and other student support procedures across the school.
Essential Functions:
● Implement and sustain a schoolwide process using the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model:
- Assemble an MTSS team consisting of teachers & support staff./
- Hold MTSS team meetings to discuss concerns & action steps for students in need.
- Serve as a guide and resource to classroom teachers regarding Tier 1 classroom interventions
- Implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students that require more targeted assistance
- Monitor students receiving Tier 2 or Tier 3 interventions for fidelity
- Make informed decisions as to whether students need to stay with Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- Work closely with Exceptional Education staff to refer students for services
● Identify and facilitate processes for universal screening to identify students needing additional support.
● Collect, manage, analyze, and disseminate student data (academic, assessment, behavioral, social, emotional, etc.)
● Assist teachers in developing and implementing classroom-based appropriate interventions for students to enhance their acquisition of academic, social/emotional, and cognitive skills (Response to Intervention or RTI).
● Counsel students to help them overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational and vocational situations.
● Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss students’ progress, resolve behavioral, academic, and other issues, and determine priorities for students and the necessary resources.
● Collaborate with teachers and the SSC counterpart in the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
● Evaluate students’ abilities, interests, and personality characteristics, using tests, records, interviews, or professional sources.
● Engage with students and their families to identify their needs and connect with relevant community partners to address those needs.
● Assist individuals and families in utilizing new and existing community and government services to remove barriers and improve the conditions of learning.
● Develop and maintain collaborative, cooperative relationships with community partners to expand the resources available to individuals and families.
● Monitor student attendance daily and make phone calls as necessary, in accordance with the student intervention plan(s).
● Confer regularly with school staff regarding students who are chronically absent/tardy and report to the Site Principal.
● Counsel students regarding absenteeism and tardiness to gain their cooperation and identify any underlying problems that may warrant interventions.
- Initiate attendance intervention tiers for students who require support with attendance and/or tardiness.
● Participates in relevant professional development and attends all required meetings.
● Fully support and embrace the direction of the school as determined by the Site Principal.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Knowledge of and Experience with the Implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model.
● Knowledge of and Experience with the Implementation of the Response to Intervention (RTI) process.
● Knowledge of and Experience with the Implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
● Bachelor’s degree in education or a closely related field
● At least one year of experience working with non-traditional/alternative high school-aged youth.
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively with ethnic, academic, and developmental diversity.
● Possess a valid and current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in education or a closely related field
● Bilingual in English/Spanish (written and spoken)
