Shift: 3rd Shift | Night -11:00 PM – 7:30 AM and After noon (2nd shift ( 3:00 P.M. to 11:30 P.M.) Both shift available
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment while ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has hands-on sterile processing experience, strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, and the ability to maintain quality, safety, and efficiency in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and medical equipment using proper PPE and infection control procedures.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, test, and reassemble complex surgical instruments.
- Assemble and package instrument trays according to count sheets, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), and department procedures.
- Operate washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, steam sterilizers (autoclaves), and other sterilization equipment.
- Perform steam sterilization and monitor sterilization cycles for compliance.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage before sterilization.
- Identify, document, and report damaged, missing, or non-functioning instruments.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records, biological testing documentation, and instrument tracking.
- Monitor inventory levels of instruments, trays, and sterile processing supplies.
- Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance of sterilization equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant decontamination and sterile storage areas.
- Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, infection prevention guidelines, manufacturer IFUs, and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Complete electronic documentation, inventory tracking, and daily computer-based tasks.
- Communicate effectively with operating room staff and other healthcare departments regarding instrument availability and priorities.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and recommend workflow enhancements.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1 year of recent hands-on Sterile Processing experience.
- Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST or CIS) required.
- Experience with decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and instrument inspection.
- Knowledge of surgical instruments and instrument sets.
- Understanding of steam sterilization, infection prevention, and sterile processing best practices.
- Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs.
- Experience operating washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and autoclaves.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and instrument tracking systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to complete required health screenings and vaccinations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional sterile processing certifications such as CIS.
- Experience in a high-volume hospital or surgical services department.
- Experience with instrument tracking software.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and inventory management processes.
