PAY RATE: $28.15/HR.
Performs routine signal work, preventative maintenance, and upgrades to a variety of traffic signal devices and systems for the Traffic Division. Reports directly to the Traffic Operations Manager. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
Performs preventative maintenance, installations, upgrades and monitoring of eisting traffic signals, cabinets, pedestrian lights, streetlights, solar powered school flashers, RRFB’s, CCTV and auiliary railroad warning lights.
Assists the traffic staff in monitoring and troubleshooting network problems pertaining to both data and video. Performs testing on fiber optic cables as necessary.
Installs vehicle detection systems which includes but not limited to, loops, video, wireless, and microwave.
Performs field locates for traffic signal systems and fiber optic cables to include but not limited to the City’s IT Dept.
Deploys traffic counting equipment as directed by the Traffic Coordinator.
Utilizes laptop/desktop computers in the programming and maintenance of the City’s ATMS system.
Reviews and comments on signal plans and inspects signal projects under constructed.
Completes work orders issued by the division and maintains call out and repair records as appropriate.
Performs the preventative maintenance of traffic cabinets and all Transportation system components associated with the City’s Traffic Network. Must be able to perform working duties up to heights of 60 feet.
Takes shop inventory and keeps sufficient parts for maintenance and emergency repairs of traffic signal systems, changes out and tests MMU's yearly, sends out test equipment and keep records yearly of being calibrated, tests equipment at shop before being sent out in field.
Assists in training employees for tasks undertaken in the maintenance of traffic signal systems.
Assists in the installation of traffic control signs, barricades and cones, maintenance of traffic, as required for work zone safety,
Operates power saws, tractors, trenches, chainsaws, trimmers, paint sprayers, shovels, post hole diggers, miing and pouring concrete, trenching and pulling cable, works in aerial platform truck and bucket truck.
Performs related work as required or directed by the Traffic Coordinator.
Performs standby on a recurring basis, responds to emergency call-outs on traffic signal malfunctions, storm damage and critical sign replacement. Applicant residence must be located within a 15-mile radius of the City of Plant City to qualify for emergency standby duties.
Position will serve as an essential staff member during periods of declared emergency by the City Manager.
Performs other job duties as assigned.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance carrier.
- IMSA Traffic Signals Level I preferred, if not must have proper amount of eperience in trade to obtain immediately for operational purposes.
State of Florida IMOT certification preferred or obtained immediately for operational purposes.
IMSA Roadway Lighting Level I preferred or obtained within one (1) year of City employment.
IMSA Traffic Signal Level II must be obtained within three (3) years of City employment.

Emergency Responsibilities:
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during or after an emergency/disaster.
