As a Care Transport Specialist, you will play a critical role supporting individuals experiencing mental health crises while working alongside sworn deputies and medical professionals.
Your responsibilities may include:
Safe & Compassionate Transport
Assist with transporting individuals under court orders to mental health facilities across Virginia while ensuring safety, dignity, and professionalism.
Mental Health Support
Monitor and document the wellbeing of individuals under mental health observation while working within the Newport News City Jail and during transports.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with sworn deputies, hospital staff, and mental health professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care.
Documentation & Intake Support
Assist with intake processes, property collection, and maintaining accurate reports and legal paperwork.
Professional Transport Operations
Safely operate department vehicles including passenger vans, SUVs, and sedans during transport operations.
Flexible Scheduling
Serve the community through a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

Must be 21 years of age

High School Diploma or GED
-
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Ability to pass background investigation, credit check, drug screening, and physical exam
Preferred Experience

Mental health or behavioral health experience
-
Drug and alcohol treatment knowledge
-
Experience with developmental disabilities
-
Corrections, security, or law enforcement experience
-
Transporting or working with mental health clients
Certifications
-
CPR / First Aid required
-
Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) certification preferred
